I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down on a Zoom call with Tatiana (vocals) and Eugene (bass) of Jinjer recently to discuss the release of their first live album. We also talked about life during the pandemic, gear, touring schedules, and got to see Tatiana rave about how good Incubus is live.
"Alive In Melbourne", the first live album by Jinjer, is out now!

Funny how all these bands have realized that "reactors" have gotten huge on youtube and started giving them interviews :P Also cool that random youtubers are getting better interviews with our favorite bands than TV people have done in 20 years.

To be fair, Jinjer owes them a lot of global exposure, and they know that. I only heard of them because Pisces went viral, even though I didn't even watched reactionaries at all, but they just came up in a discussion and just because the word about them spread through KZbin.

i actually want to know if Tatianas opinion on reactors has changed, because she stated many times, she really dislikes the attention that their songs get from reactions, especially Pisces, because she feels everybody does reactions cause of the shock value, not because of how personal the song is and its qualities :D

This is how you do an interview! So many people when they get an interview they just read their generic questions from a page, the band answers but then they don't give them any feedback, they just say "ok next question" like it's a quiz or something, so impersonal. The way you handled it here was so natural, it was an actual conversation, not just a sterile question/answer. Other interviewers need to take notes. Also I love Chase's videos, you should see if you can hook him up with an interview

This was frikking awesome! Best sort of interview I've seen in a long time. Letting the artist actually talk their mind instead of leading them into answers make the viewing so much more pleasurable and gets the artist to actually say what they mean instead. Keep up the great work man and I've got to say that I have found a couple of bands here that were not on my playlist before watching you. And on another note. Since you seemed to enjoy Avatar in your reaction of them. They are streaming four concerts in January with focus on their new album and some of the fans favourit songs as well.

Great interview, Tank! Congrats on your child, good to hear of your fortune. I will have a cigar for you once we all get back to work and you come through one of the venues we often share work in. #42 #151, #220 Jinjer is amazing, & as you said, if not for the down time, I would not likely get to be exposed knowingly to them(automation playing them out of a work case notwithstanding), but also if not for review/reaction channels like yours. For me at least, it wasn't just the increased time to be exposed and check new stuff out, but the vast amount of new methods for which to be exposed & discover the 'new to me' music out there. So, for that, thanks. This band is truly amazing all the way around, once I got past the insta crush/fascination, the music really stood out and mad respect developed for what they were doing. Their energy is awesome, can't wait to see this band in person, worthy of turning the work down for a true night at the show.

I totally agree on having blinders up when you are on tour. Not a musician myself but I totally understand within an industry ending up stuck in an echo chamber. It's just how the algorithms work online and how human psychology works. You tend to stick to your own bubble because you're more comfortable. It's easier. It was awesome hearing about taking up different hobbies and interests and seeing the good things in this year. I was very interested in what Eugene had to say on the guitars and smaller companies - having that personal touch makes a world of difference. When you mentioned about how the entire band is amazing, I immediately thought of Chase. I've been watching him a bit and I'm so glad your first question was from him.

So strange to hear Tatiana say she hates touring! What?! She is a road WARRIOR! I guess that goes to show her dedication to her craft--for her to tour as extensively as they have is remarkable. They literally HAD to do it for a while just to survive. It has forged them into an amazingly cohesive live band.

When Eugene gets to talking about something he is excited about, his talking rhythm feels really familiar. It reminds me a lot of the many odd, syncopated rhythms in their music compositions. Fascinating. :)

Just when I didn't think I couldn't like Jinjer anymore, Tatiana is wearing a friggin Incubus Make Yourself shirt. That's my favorite album from my all time favorite band. That shit was in my car CD player for like 3 months straight.

@tankthetech That was a really great interview. You really opened them up and made them feel very comfortable to be themselves. I feel like I know them a little better now. Thank you!

I’d fly to Kiev if you and Slipknot would collaborate and play there once this pandemic is over and I think between your global fans and Slipknot’s global fans I reckon that could be a gig that would attract a huge audience. I’m from the UK and currently live in Singapore but I’d be flying to see that.

Slipknot actually invited them to open for a show they were scheduled to perform in Poland Fall 2020 but it was cancelled..

I dont agree that people dont talk about the musicianship of the band - Jinjer more than any other I can think of get credit for being insanely good musicians all round. Even people who arnt full on metal fans seem to notice they are a bit special as an ensemble

That was an awesome interview mate 👍🏻. I was at that Melbourne show on March 5th and I got to meet and greet them beforehand. One of the best shows I’ve been to 🙏🏻. If I can suggest another amazing band from Ukraine for you to listen to, it would be IGNEA. They’re a talented 5 piece band with an incredible female vocalist who sings very similar to Tati. Plus Helle and the boys are also very nice to talk to 🙏🏻

Smaller indoor venues shuttering down is a scary thought. Not much of a silver lining there, except maybe, with the advantages of open air, we could finally get Nightwish Live @ Red Rocks?. Something good has to come out of all of this, anything...
