What an original sound and vibe. He sounds like he has a hard, grabby touch AND a light, exquisite touch at the same time. Never heard anyone else who sounds quite the same. Very cool.

Been trying to figure out what makes up the main characteristics of his tone, and i think i realized something in this video. It seems like he's using super low action and 009 gauge strings. In the 80's and 90's when SRV was prominent, most guitarists started using higher action and 010 or 011 gauge strings. I was one of them. I think i'm gonna see what happens if i go back to 009s and lower my action. I know i'm not going to turn into Eric, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

Strats really benefit in tone from slightly higher string gauge and a fairly high action. I do love Erics tone but it does sound kinda thin at times. You gotta remember he's also tuned to Eb with those 9's so they are more like 8's in standard, that's VERY light. It's most likely a choice he's made for ease of playing than it is for tone. Simply put, lowering string gauge and action won't do anything good for your tone unless you want a thin and trebley tone.. again no offense to Eric, I adore his playing. I think the biggest part of what makes up his tone would be his amp, and of course his personal touch and unique style.

SRV played 13-58 for the most part in Eb and high action. Even playing at half a step down, that is physically impressive, considering the way he played and how aggressive he could bend.

I've been seeing some pics his pedalboards and i see he using sometimes the Nova Delay pedal, sometimes the Carbon Copy pedal and, now, i see he using the Tech 21 Boost DLA. Wich of these pedals is better?

Man, I love Eric Gales as a musician, I like rosewood strats too. His style of playing the blues is amazing, worlds better than the typical repetitive, monotonous blues that I hear a lot. Also, I noticed, he sounds almost exactly like the rapper Project Pat, who's also from Memphis hah
