Great interview! I also liked that the interviewer just let Matt talk without interrupting too much, too many interviews talk way too much themselves instead of listening.

Matt is so real. Seriously if there's any musician that people should idolize, it should be him. You can tell he's more than serious about what he does, not because he has a serious personality, but because he loves it and doesn't want to waste it. He's blunt and to the point, but not in a dick kind of way. He's not overconfident and a humble soul.

Matt's spot on about their live rigs nowadays. They sound Godlike on stage
@PinchHarmonic6910 жыл бұрын
They definitely are amazingly tight and consistent, but they've definitely been missing some of the spontaneous epic shit that they've done in the past. Also, their tone is a bit robotic and dry because of the Kempers. They should just go back to some legit organic 5150's with the maxon overdrive.
@DropdaLTDtoB10 жыл бұрын
Lionhardt369 I don't know who pays for what in the touring industry, but if the need for more storage for gear while travelling (more renting or probably tour support for gear as well) comes with a deduction to Trivium's income, then they would be insane to go back to amps. It is a little robotic i agree, but it suits their style for live purposes.

After listening to this amazing interview & hearing Matt echo alot of the same thoughts & feelings regarding the disgrace that is manufactured pop music that I have, I am now a fan of Matt Heafy THE PERSON, and will definitely check out Trivium's music with a fresh ear. I will admit, being an old school metalhead more in the mold of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, I didn't give his band a fair listen before writing them off as just another cookie-cutter metalcore band... I was wrong & do apologize.
@martingraham84186 жыл бұрын
I recently had my Spotify playlist playing and didn't realize that it ended and when it does... it will play similar bands to the ones that are on the playlist. A song came on and I was driving at the time and was kind of just jamming with it not even realizing that it was Trivium. I will say, I never gave them a chance before either. They came out around the time of bands like Bullet for My Valentine and I wrote them off as I was in the midst of getting into tech and death metal. After hearing that song in my car, I went back and listened to Trivium's latest album, and while some of the parts are still not necessarily my thing, I gotta say I enjoyed it more than I thought. I also watched some of Matt's videos on his KZbin channel and he is just a stand up guy and a heck of a guitar player.
@tirsahingalls27765 жыл бұрын
Try their Shogun, and The Crusade albums. Very good albums for an old school metal dude to ease yourself into Trivium. The Crusade album drops 95% of his iconic scream to a more traditional metal orientation. But of the two Shogun is my favorite due to its fantastic musicianship. The album In Waves is also badass.

Thank you for this awesome interview! Very observant interviewer :-) And very passionate interviewee :-) By the way, Steve Smyth taught me to pick at an angle, like cutting into the string. It gives increased control at higher speed (the string never gets 'trapped') and more even attack instead of duds mixed with aggressive pops.

Having mixed extended range guitars, I've found that even a 9-string doesn't necessarily interfere with the bass (certainly not when they're in unison). The tone of the bottom strings comes 99% from harmonics, not the fundamental.

Yeah that was said well by Matt, other people "like" a certain type of music or genre, but if you are a real metal head then it's like you are a part of something , it's not just a type of music that you like 😂😂😂😂😂you also like doing stuff like wearing black and it never changes .....I'm 45 now and recently realized that I'll never change and I found that strange cause I always thought that as I get older I would grow out of metal and death metal but it just keeps growing

They use a Kemper profiling amp, kinda boring. It's a custom tone done by Colin Richardson. Basically a 5150 running into a Maxon Overdrive pedal. You can find some general stuff about the settings online, like they scoop their mids a bit. The thing about trivium is that all 3 instruments kind of blend together well, but separately they don't sound AS great.
