This was awesome to watch for the information and because I’m so close to this Dr! I’m attending a small technical college in ST C Ohio about 75min West of Pgh and will be transferring to RMU in Moon, PA (20 min from downtown PGH) this Fall as an incoming Junior majoring in biology on the pre-med track. Cool stuff! I will say it’s really hard to find an anesthesiologist that I’m able to shadow or just ask questions in my area

who: cardiac + transplant anasthesiologist what: supervise patients, supervise more than one operation at a time (3-4 operating rooms) , bulk of day = taking care of patients responsibility: really being with patients during key times of surgery, end of operation for continuity of care rewards: environment with many diff specialists who taking care of patients for a variety of operations, and as an anasthesiologist you get to see a variety of surgeries (cardiac, joint replacements, gall bladder surg, etc), and get to be with all kind of specialists and nurses and assistants which is rewarding edu reqs: med school (4 yrs), residency training (~4 yrs for an anasthesiologist) advice: study what you like and be well rounded, do well in school with what you enjoy, extra curricular can be helpful. have your heart majoring in what you like advice to freshman in college: balance your life in all levels and phases. keep your goals in mind everyday. everyday see where you wanna see yourself in 10 and 20 years so that helps you keep balance but not stray form long term goals.SET YOUR MIND to your commitment day after day after day misconception about medicine: not everythings is hi tech. it is a human endevour- you need communication, decision making individually and collectively

There are several factors-the procedure, your surgeon, your anesthesia team, your medical history and current physical condition are just a few. Not all eye procedures are done with general anesthesia.

how long does it take to pay off average student loans for an average anasthegeologist salary?
@zombie456117 жыл бұрын
Brigham D many years most likely
@Niitonnn7 жыл бұрын
After residency (4 years), not that long depending on how much you save towards your loans. Probably 3-4 years if you’re up at 2 mil, which is high for student loans. a few 100,000 would be like 1-2 years
@jras5647 жыл бұрын
Brigham D depends on if you live frugally or not. as high as 15 years as little as 2-4

My son is a 2nd year resident anesthesiologist at a well known hosp with 2 years left to go (and possibly another fellowship year). His student loans total around $250k. He makes around 55k now and receives aprox a 5k raise each year of residency. I have already seen offers from a hosp in Cali of up to 425k. If he buckles down and doesn't go bat shit crazy when he finally starts getting paid, I think he can do it in a few years. But I have already heard of offers from hospitals to pay off student loans, cars, signing bonus's, etc. so it pays to see whats out there before making a final decision. Some of the anesthesiologists at his hosp are bringing in 700 - 800k a year, especially if they are going between 3-4 rooms at once and supervising CRNA's and residents

Hi.. awesome video! How does anesthesiology procedures vary depending on the surgery? I'm interested in the field and I'm a pre-med student and I would like to know if the field has the same foundational methods with every procedure or will every procedure vary by a lot. I enjoy doing the same thing over and over, and I just want to know if this is for me. I appreciate the help!

@@doctorbobby4543 Thank you for taking the time to answer! Another question if you have time... If you were starting over at your current age (also knowing what you know now) with a family you have to care for, would you go through entire educational/licensing process to become an anesthesiologist or would you consider a career as a CRNA? I know everybody has a unique situation, but if you were being honest, what path would you choose, and what would be your top 2 reasons why? I'd love to hear your brief input. Thanks for your time.
@doctorbobby45434 жыл бұрын
Knowing everything that I know, assuming you already have a college degree and have the pre-recs, I'd still become a physician. No slight to my nursing colleagues, but that route involves just as much debt as medical school, and yields less autonomy. Both have their pros and cons.
@MikeTFresh4 жыл бұрын
@@doctorbobby4543 Thank you so much! Yes, def not a question to ask which career is better. :) I just like hearing from mentors/role models, such as yourself, to see if they can give input on what they would do (ANES or CRNA) if starting late in the game was an issue. I appreciate you taking the time on a holiday to respond. I gave your channel a follow hoping to learn much more! Thank you so much! :)

CRNA'S were practicing ANESTHESIA before PHYSICIANS so please look up for history before making assumptions. It's MORE like a medical enroachment! Anesthesia is NOT the practice of medicine and please review the legal guidelines on that matter. It is amazing every time Physicians go to court to fight Nurses, it usually ENDS in defeat.

C Morris Yes, it's real. We even had it as a ballot issue in my state about a year ago believe it or not. Politicians getting involved in these decisions are never a good thing, especially when you consider their reasons, which is always putting money in their own pockets via some insurance company, etc. It will soon be the same with PA's trying to replace MD's for office visits. This is why it pays to have a sub specialty (an extra year doing a fellowship). It will make you much more safer in your job.
