Intex Pure Spa bubble unit fix

After being packed away and stored over the winter months, I found after inflating the tub that the bubbles pump unit decided to stop working. This results in a complete bubble or inflation failure.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Robert Jarrett from the Facebook group ‘Intex Spa/Hot Tub Owners & Advice’ for giving me loads of advice to help fix this issue.

For anyone with low motor brushes, I went on Amazon and bought a set of Electric Motor Carbon Brushes with various sizes for 10 bucks. Switched them out and now it works like a charm. Thanks Dan for the upload.

Thank you so much for making this! You saved my hot tub! Just a couple things: - I actually had a different Intex Pure Spa (blue instead of the off white color) and the directions were pretty similar. - I was able to get the spring loaded part out of the pump without totally removing it from the white outer housing. This made the reassembly easier at 19:00. It was said that putting that part on was one of the hardest parts of the process and it was nice to be able to skip that. - My spring loaded part took a long time to free from its hosing. I just sprayed a lot of WD-40 and let it sit, brushed it a bit, and occasionally gently squeezed the sides with some channel locks to free the inner part. Do not over do it on squeezing though because you could disform the housing. I was then SUPER carful not to remove the inner part too far and break it like was accidentally done at 16:40 because I can’t solder at all. I just sprayed a little more WD-40, brushed it a bit, carefully moved it in and out to lubricate it, and put it right back in. All and all, this video was a huge help and not too hard to do! I just did this to my pump and it worked. I had a hard time getting the bushing to deploy. I soaked them in wd40 and just kept pushing them in and out until they came out completely. Was it easy to get them back in but worth making sure they weren't stuck. I suggest removing the ground wire from the heat housing to make it easier.

This fix worked like a charm. The only variation I used was spraying Deoxit D5 on the corroded areas as it dissolves corrosion, protects and improves conductivity.

I need to replace the brush but cant quite figure out how you reattached the one in your picture. I may have to solder in a new one is that how you did it?

I’ve just had to watch that but again to jog my memory and yes. I think there was originally a piece from the back plate that the copper wire clamped under, but that has come off so I just soldered it back on. You could always drill a tiny hole through the centre of that brass backing plate and poke the copper wire through it and silver it from the back if it doesn’t hold securely or just to give it extra hold. I’ve Issy realised as well watching that back that where I’m explaining about poking a screw driver into the hole to force the bush back, there’s a round hole right above where it goes in that you can hold the bush back.

I’m sorry I don’t know. You could try contact Intex or failing that, take one of the units the brushes sit in, into some where like a washing machine parts place and ask them. I wouldn’t even know where to but then if I’m honest as mine were ok.

I think someone has already mentioned this and I just looked as well to confirm, but if you head to Amazon and look for 'Electric Motor Carbon Brushes' - you should be able to find what you are after. @@Dan_TheMedic Now I have the issue that one of the brushes is stuck. The first one popped out, I cleaned it up and I was feeling confident. The 2nd one is solidly stuck in place and won't come out. When I push down on the brush hoping it will spring out, it's as solid as a rock. Not really sure what I can do to get it to pop out. After a while I finally just tried some PB blaster. Might have been a bad idea but considering I can't get it to budge and the pump doesn't work, I thought why not. I'll try again tonight, any suggestions?
