8:09 Traynor amps I love. They have a great story of Pete Traynor tossing amps heads off his rooftop, as a show of how well they will survive. Just replace the tubes and it good to go. "Traynor Stories | Episode 3 | The Pete Traynor Amp Toss" - Is an example on youtube of it happening.

Great list. My journey started with a Bluesbreaker in 1994. I sold it and went through Ampegs, blues deluxe, 1968 Jmp plexi, vox ac15 and nt15 and ended back with the Bluesbreaker. It is perfect for me as a pedal platform. The 1968 JMP50 is the best tone I've ever experienced, however, I feared the cost of a potential repair. So, a long journey and the Bluesbreaker is the destination. Have a great day

I gig with a Traynor YCV-40 with JJ tubes and Vintage 30 upgrade. Clean channel is good. I dime the gain and use guitar volume to get the right rhythm tone. Great for Classic Rock. Then the Boost will bring you into a hard rock / metal range. Get into 70's Van Halen and Judas Priest. Takes pedals great. I gig with the volume just under 2. Sounds great. Beyond 2, the drummer will ask me to turn down. They are bargain used in Canada. $300 range. Almost $1000 new. They aren't heavy to carry.

The Marshall DSL40CR is definitely in my top tier of amps I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few. It's so dynamic, so diverse, and actually sounds like a Marshall unlike it's predecessor (the non CR version). I'm way more of a Blackface Fender kind of guy (and the SS60 actually does the cranked Twin thing very well), but every now and again you just wanna plug into something that grunts and barks like a wild animal. That CR has the 80s Marshall thing in spades and with a little goosing from a good OD pedal, it is nearly indiscernible from the JCM I own. Even the stock speaker is really good imo. I actually like the brightness it has, but I also never raise the presence above 0. Anyway,I'll shut up about it now but I'm glad you appreciated the amp enough to get one Shane. It's probably the best amp Marshall has put out in some time. The Origin is cool, but the CR can do that too, along with so many other things.

@@dangitdan9938 Hi mate, it depends how loud you want to be. The blues Deluxe is far cleaner at high volumes where as the Tweedtone is loud, but it's more of a gnarly tone that works great without effects. I'll see if I can put a video together down the track :)

I am an ekectronics tech and tube amp nerd. I recently got a super deal on a mint 2006, Traynor YCV-80, 4x10 combo. 4x5881/6L6GB-GC. I also own a 1993, '65 Fender Twin Reverb reissue with 2x12. 4x6L6GC. The Fender needs no introduction and sounds absolutely wonderful.. I am surprised that I would take the YCV-80 over the Fender as my desert island amp. Especially if I was not allowed any pedals. Only a measured 38.5 watts RMS versus a true 84.6 watts RMS from the Fender, but it absolutely kills for tone and versatility. I won't part with either.

I’ve always thought the guitar was the most important part of one’s rig and the amp was secondary, however watching this channel over the years, I’ve learned how much it makes a difference! An amplifier can make a huge difference in your tone and even how you approach your playing. Buying my Marshall Vintage Modern was an eye opening experience that really helped me learn how to adjust my tone to what I was looking for and now with my ToneMaster Twin, I have that Fender clean tone that I always wanted. Looking forward, If love to get an Artist Tweed Tone 20 and a 68 Deluxe Reverb but for now the two I have are enough. Thanks for sharing your experience with your amps!! Cheers!🎸🎸🎸🎸

The amp is far more important than the guitar per se. Most pick ups of the same type do not usually sound drastically different to one another, but an amplifier on the other hand, all sound different. They have a far bigger impact on what comes out of your guitar than the guitar itself! Play the same guitar thru 1/2 a doz different amps and see HOW different it will sound!

Shane great video! So I now have a YCV 50 the blue one like you had and the clean channel with the bright switch engaged is one of the best cleans I've heard. Also, Eurotubes Inc has some great tube sets for this amp that people have been raving about. I've been running this amp aby mix with my fender mustang iii v2 and it is absolutely killer. I'll use the second channel with a gain at about 10 o clock or right when it starts breaking up. The Mustang v2 iii I use the 65' Deluxe setting... That setting alone is worth it. The secret I believe to the Mustang if anyone is reading this is on that 65' model go to the second page and play around with the cab settings it will really unlock the eq in that setting.

I am new to amps, but I bought the BOSS Katana Mark II Head and run a homemade cabinet with two 12" JBL speakers two 4.5 " Midrange and two 4" Piezo tweeters my brother built. I have three wattage settings, 0.5w, 50w and 100w. To be honest so far I just use it at home. I really like it. I have only used the 0.5 w setting and can play for the neighbors on first floor of my apartment building. I live on the 7th floor so that is saying something and maybe just a little exaggerated but you get the picture. I chose the head instead of the 100w two 12s cabinet model for the convenience of portability. I am at my son's house now. I was house and dog sitting for a few days. It seems very rugged and yet not very heavy. I also like the Katana BOSS Tone studio I run through my computer via usb cable. Hundreds if not thousands(no exaggeration there) of different possibilities for sound changes and a library for downloading more from personal people or companies. It also has the ability to do amp modeling but I don't trust third party software so I steer clear of that feature. BOSS will probably come out with a larger list than I already have. It looks a bit pricey looking but to me it was worth every penny and dollar and hundreds. Sorry for such a long comment just wanted to state all the facts and there are probably some I missed.

The Celestion Seventy/80 actually sounds really good once it's broken in. Fortunately for people like me, people like you don't give the speaker enough time to break in before deciding you don't like the Chinese Celestion. So you never hear it at its full potential. My amp sounds remarkably different now that the speaker is broke in. It actually sounds like I expected it to sound when I got it. Its a teriffic amp and the Celestion Seventy/80 sounds INCREDIBLE in it. You really shouldnt pass on speakers because you think they suck because you won't put enough time in to actually test them fully or let them get broken in. Seems like you're being snobby, imo.

Back in 1972 I bought a Vadis head and speaker box on wheels from the 2nd hand store opposite Guildford station, sorry I don't remember it's model, borrowed a mates guitar to try it out. Awesome !! I advertised it in The Trading Post for a profit, it paid for my first Ibanez bass. Wish I had the money to keep it back then. I now use an Ashdown Rootmaster 500 with a twin 10" or my quad 10" , when my rhythm guitarist died I asked his wife if I could buy his Marshall TSL60 JCM 2000 60w, to remember the mate who bought his first guitar when I bought my first bass in what is now called year 10. DSL 40C a great amp? Good joke. I have had two DSLs a 20W head and the DSL40. Both developed major issues with light use just after a year. Not a great amp when it doesn't last. The cost of repairing exceeded rwhat replacement costs. Second issue is the high gain is crap. It's very scratchy and way too fuzzy with no definition. The speaker in the combo is the Celestion seventy eighty which is their worst speaker by every measure, I ran mine through a 1x12 cabinet with a Creamback and a major improvement. Sounds like a cheap solid state amp on high gain. I bought the Studio Champ JCM800 head. After 3 years not a single issus, sound 10,000 times better, doesn't do high gain but with a Boss equaliser in the chain gets as raunchy as needed without the flubbiness and scrathiness of the DSL. I have never owned a Traynor Akmp but was told by the tech I use that the circut boards are not well laid out and the usually develop big problems quickly. again, I never owned one, I just have avoided on his advice.

Got a new ToneKing Imperial MkII to satisfy this new boutique amp itch...didn't work....added the CreamBack used in the Hampstead...improved the TK's tone for my taste...STILL not as magnificent as my son's Hamstead. Did sell my Blues Jr a few days ago (w/Western Tolex and C.Rex speaker...nice but not likely to get much action with TK in the house.).

You replace Celestion with Eminence on a Marshall. I have never like Jenson Eminence on Fenders and switch Fenders with Celestion

First it was pedals and now Im chasing amps. Ive had 3 Fender Deluxe (one had no reverb) and I should've kept one. I think im going to try a Vibro Champ... (my big amp is a Valveking II - great clean sound and every feature imaginable, changed to a Jensen).

Shane would you say Stage Right SB12 50 watt tube 6L6, with Vox Stompbox amp modeling pedal with effects, be best choice

Hey man, how are you setting up the amp channels with pedals? Are you using the other channels or just that clean/crunch and then some pedals? Like if I'm gonna do a metallica cover...and then a Nirvana song or two...I'm wonder how to configure this stuff. I do have the 6-way switch. Are you mainly just using one channel when playing live and not swapping out much?

It is 2020, Shane has played lots of solid state and digital amps, yet most of the amps are tube amps. That says a lot. By the way, may Fender could release a Mustang reissue instead of the newer versions that flopped

Gotta say, my fav amp has been and will prob always be the Fender Twin. I know, I know. But for my pedalboard and, and for a single coil player...it sings. Got balls, and its super touch responsive. A lil scoopy, but but for rhythm it slays and TS for leads...well, I've come full circle and back to the twin.

AND the best amplifier award goes to..... a milk crate. hear me out. you can lift the amp and put it on top, closer to your ears and the drummer. makes it louder, no need to upgrade. you can tilt the amp back on the crate, give you the tone sweet spot but it still couples with the floor and if open back has different frequency shifts. no need to upgrade your gear. and 3rd option for the milk crate is for sitting on yourself. you only do this after a long jam, and a long jam means a productive one. it means you didnt make an excuse to get away. it means you are happy with your lot in life.

I heard the fender "reissue series" As great as they sound are not super well built competent wise so if you bought a brand new one and its warranty is about to run out maybe blow it up on purpose LOL just crank it 24/7 till it blows LOL unless like you barely used it and you might not be able to blow it up on time so...idk

Solid video as always! I own the blues deluxe and its a monster. I even decided to ditch the stock speaker… twice. Both speakers that i chose were killer, g12m -65 creamback , then went to the swamp thang. At first the creamback didnt seem to have that massive low end response so i put that into another amp- but after it broke in the creamback is now easily my favorite speaker, i have 2 of them. One thing i will say about the amp, and keep in mind ive got a bad back, that amp is pretty damn heavy now, especially with the ST. Also- contradictory to what Shane thinks, I really love the drive channel !! I usually put it around noon and hit it with an OD, love it. I have Mesas, and other amps for other flavors of crunch but the blues deluxe has this really unique “fuzzy” drive that is just fun to play!!

I also own a Marshall DSL 40cr. I highly recommend using a Midi control to switch channels. With Midi, instead of having the ability to foot switch between the 2 primary amp channels, you can switch between all 4 channels with one foot tap.
