It wouldn't surprise me if the earlier "contestants" were given rental vehicles, but then the producers of the show realised how expensive that actually was and stopped doing it. So not only did these people lose their car for the majority of the year AND have to find other transport (which, if they could afford I doubt they'd be driving a vehicle bad enough to end up on the show to begin with), they ended up getting back a car that was often worse, made illegal to be on the roads with some of the mods, and now footing the bill to just get the car back to the state it was in at the very start. So basically the entire show got a ton of money and publicity for the people involved (especially like West Coast Customs and the other companies doing the car work) whilst totally screwing over a bunch of poor people.

What’s cray about this show is around 2016-17 I worked next door at a tattoo shop next to Big Danes BBQ joint that he co-owned with a guy named Beal. Dane seemed like a cool dude and I think he was still ( at that time) co owner with the his partner for WCC.

Back in the days, there were alot of shows that did this, aside from _Pimp my ride_ What is sad though, is that only a fraction of the people that had their cars "fixed" seemed ok with it. And i do mean OK. They were not thrilled or overjoyed, they just accepted the car for what it was. Poor Xzibit man, he deserved so much better than what he got. They barely played his music on the shows, like only a snippet of luke 6 seconds when introducing him. This is just so wrong on all levels
