I've figured that there was something up with Pimp My Ride bcuz I didn't believe that it would take them to restore rundown cars into customized cars within a short amount of time which it usually takes to restore a rundown car into a customized car is about a year or two maybe more depending of the size of the car if you take your time and with a whole lot of money to put into the car?

the issue with Pimp My Ride was mainly the fact that they added all this luxury nonsense (which a lot of the time it was controlled by a guy off camera w/ a laptop, and not even real), but on top of that, they ignored actual mechanical problems the vehicles had. So if you got on to pimp my ride and your engine was bad, you might come back w/ the same car with a dvd player and a soda making machine in the back or w/e, but the engine will still be bad.

Moral and ethical dilemmas of the show aside, Pimp My Ride is such a nostalgia trip for me, being that I was born in 95. All those old MTV and VH1 shoes were so damn good, the peak of braindead cable television. Watching this video made me want to compile a list a bunch of those old shows I grew up watching, pirate them, and go on a nostalgia bender watching them all again. Pimp My Ride, Jackass, Viva La Bam, Wild Boys, Flavor of Love, Punk’d, Cribs, Room Raiders, Rob and Big, Next, Parental Control, Date My Mom, Hogan Knows Best, Celebrity Paranormal Project, etc… damn, it might’ve all been brain-mush, but at least it was fun. Even if everything was put in perfectly, it still looks like the back seat would be a death trap if it got into an accident. There'd be glass shards and beads everywhere from the various screen and lasers, rescue workers wouldn't be able to get into the back without forcing the doors open or breaking down either that pseudo-wall or the sound system from the trunk, all of which would be a lot of wasted work when they see the denim seats and inevitably decide to immediately board up all the entrances and torch the van so that its inhabitants can explain themselves to God.

They never fixed the actual issues with the car, so it was still just a clapped out 10 year old minivan with the same shitty engine.
@SnowmanTF23 жыл бұрын
To start with the show had an issue common to extreme makeover shows, in makeover designs were more for the camera shoots at completion/returning, verses sustainability and resale value. While hopefully the owner liked the style and features when they had it; a duel tone pink/purple is generally going to have way less interest than any stock color (granted it held up way more than I would have expected), the cargo area is dedicated to being speakers and fixed couch is likely an issue for the vast majority of people interested in a minivan (where you generally have a good average storage in back with several kids, but can use the entire back for large cargo when needed), the blocked off door was maybe the most minor resale issue but how many people need a large permanent jewelry making station (even the original owner probably eventually would have rather wanted the second door access). The customizations likely added a ton of weight which is going to cause faster wear on a wide variety of components. Being replaced with a better near identical vehicle is probably the best thing done for them. Another issue specific to this show likely stems from being aimed at an MTV audience, leading the show to pick from that demographic for modifying cars. So pretty much broke high school and college age kids were selected, that are probably five to ten years from real income, very likely longer than the life of an already old vehicle being used as a daily driver, which again likely has faster wear due to a lot of weight added. So it really does not take that large a mechanics bill to make a replacement used car a more viable option, especially at an age where needs/tastes change in a short period of time. Plus vehicles are not really designed to sit for long periods of time, so once they let it set for months, it is just accumulating minor issues till they have a major one.

A lot of the owners couldn't afford the insurance nor the batteries to keep everything going and went back to being vibrant painted clunkers. Especially when they would put the crazy DJ table, sound systems and margarita mixers or whatever tf all they did. That takes a lot of juice and them batteries are expensive. Many just couldn't afford. Just like the extreme home show many couldn't afford the property taxes and utility bills. Plus if like the time when Oprah gave away buncha cars many couldn't afford the taxes. There's a price to all this TV stuff. From my understanding Price is Right with Drew Carey is best bet because I remember reading being told from couple folk he will pay personally the taxes so people do not have to give up their prizes

I'd love to see what happened to the other cars. I remember my older brother saying they always ruined cars when the show was on air and I just thought it was cool. I like that you guys shop at advanced auto parts. Best place to go.

Most of the people the did cars for took them back to the hood they lived in and parked them back on the street... lots of them got broken into and stripped... plus if you never took care of your ride before, you aren't going to suddenly take care of your new redone car, guaranteed to turn to crap in a year.
