Haha so funny to read this as the first comment. I searched in yt for strings and serum, I compare the first two vids that show up: One a really loud overselfconfident guy, and his strings sound mediocre, ok I check the longer tutorial.. this one.. thanks god :)

Holy moly the timing can't be any better! Our band just got a commission for a documentary and we were banging our heads for orchestral libraries since we don't have good internet during the lockdown. Thx for this Michael!!

I first tried to make some music around 6 years ago but it required so much learning and most tutorials just confused me even more, up to the point I just decided to let it go. Now thanks to your videos Im back at it and its sooo good. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge through this nice and hard work, its amazing, please keep it up! I bet it will help a lot of newcomers, no doubt about it!

Thank you! I added a few more basses and key sounds mostly, along with a few upgrades to one or two patches. I hope to make more regular updates (every 2 to 3 months) in the future :)

I like how you show the example of the sound at the beginning of the video rather than right at the end.. at least this way you can decide if it’s the sound you’re looking for without watching a video that may not be needed. Great vid.. liked and subbed 👍🏻

I've been searching for some videos like this on how to make Synth Strings, but didn't find any which is very detailed and reliable. And then finally this video dropped!!!!! FM adds a bit of inharmonics (harmonics that are slightly off being integer multiples of the fundamental frequency) which gives the impression of a string not vibrating perfectly. Very helpful video, thanks for this

That “difficult to explain part” he was dancing around is called “adds more harmonics or rather adds amplitude variations to some harmonics”. That is basically what “warmth” is when adding disto effects and similar.

Fantastic video! Would love to see how you handle phase issues when working on a mix. I find that if i have two separate recordings of guitars (both direct-in), I get all kinds of phase issues before I even touch any effects. I think people like me would greatly benefit from any advice you have! Great work, as always!

Adding some bow friction noise sample in the noise oscillator and some subtle vibrato would make it sound more realistic.

You've made great videos on designing bass and pads with serum. Thank you. It's really appreciated! Can you PLEASE also make one on how to take any sample (like a vocal sample) and make a pad out of it by looping the sample. I don't know how to get rid of the clicks at the start or end of the loop points so the pad can sound continuous and not like a sample being looped over and over again.

Throw the velocity control into the attack time as well, so that higher velocity creates a more intense sound, but also because the varying of attack times is crucial for realistic strings

Awesome content as always! It'd be fun having a Sound Design Tutorial episode about 80s "rock" keys, like Van Halen's "Jump" or Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City" (there's a synth doubling guitar chords in the intro/chorus, it's subtle (well, not that much) but once you notice it you can't unhear it haha) Keep going, I love your videos :)
