I was following a different set of principles, however, I find these to be much more accurate. It’s interesting what we learn from different teachers. I have been thinking for sometime now that I would like to create a 3-D model that I could use to define the facial structure when it’s in various positions. I’ve started to do faces more often but my other teachings were not meeting my needs. This class provided a lot more detail regarding the change of the facial perspective. To give you an example of a failure of my other teacher, she created the lines straight across the face including the eyes and the mouth. I’ve found this class of yours to be very enlightening.

I wish you had a list of ALL your videos (not on facebook, some people limit social media), that way I could watch every single video you've made while being able to close about 150 tabs and de-stress my poor computer! You could even make a video about making a video! Just post it for the purpose of including all the links in the description. and of course, disregard if this doesn't sound appealing!! In my sidebar sometimes, there appears "a set" of your videos, and when clicking on that, a whole series opens up. Even just a list of all those would be super helpful!!

Related to taking a break, if you stop working on something, turn it over so it's not visible until you're ready to work on it again. If it becomes just another thing in the room, the mistakes will remain hidden.

What I like best about your instruction is that you explain so well the reason behind the "rule". A video on setting up your space would be most welcome! I often watch/read about beginning painting tips, as one can always pick up extra bits of wisdom, especially from you! So much of what you stressed was also noted in a workshop I took 20 years ago by Tony Couch. He was quite intent on value and design, and felt color had a lesser importance. I can still hear his admonishments to those (mea culpa) producing muddy, overworked results in darker areas. "Just paint it dark enough the first time!" With regard to the ugly stage, I feel one just has to "trust the process". You likely have mentioned this in other videos, but with glazing it is "easier to cool a warm than warm a cool". This is my observance, anyway, as I start with the warmer colors, since I find I cannot paint over the cooler colors with a warmer, without a muddy result.

Michele - RE: Tonal contrast...I know that I can use an opposite color to darken a color. But what if that color is not dark enough? Then what do I add? Paynes Gray? Could you do a video on this? Thanks!
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber 2 жыл бұрын
Some colors can't be darkened that much such as yellows and weak colors like Cerulean. If you add too much opposite color then you push into a neutral and change the color entirely. Other options are using the pigment itself stronger with less water or adding a similar staining color. For example Cerulean can be made to look stronger by adding Phthalo blue. Yes, I have been thinking of doing a video like this... adding it to my list!
@smz5302
@smz5302 2 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Oh, yes, please - a video on this! I know you've told us...but I'm also seeing/learning...that value is SO important. From what you've stated, I'm particularly interested in learning what staining colors are similar to non-staining colors - so that I can increase tonal contrast. Please consider doing, perhaps, a two- or three-part video on how to increase tonal contrast--particularly, how to go darker. Thanks, Michele!

Also (and this isn’t news to you I’m sure) but I’m a novice, not new to WC but not an expert either. I’ve watched hours of KZbin as well as taking in person and online classes) Short story long - your teaching has been a quantum leap in knowing my watercolors. I have taken color theory - but watercolors are their own “animals.” I like to copy your searching of mixtures to see how mine react. I get bored swatching my art supplies on their own but swatching mixes is amazing. Thank you and keep up the good work.
