His history's pretty interesting, considering there are a bunch of different accounts about who he was in life, some more heroic, others more ruthless. For this season of Nocturne, I think they went for a more heroic angle for narrative purposes.

Tera running away is honestly one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever seen in either Castlevania show. It *might* be best for everyone if Tera removed herself from Maria’s life, but for a loving mother like Tera, it’s more painful than cutting off one of her own limbs as well Maria’s.

So since then the family went into hiding and the whip handed down to other families until the day the Belmonts can reclaim it. If you attempt to use the whip without it recognizing you, it will drain your life force.

They're taking some creative liberties with the egyptian concept of the soul (which is fair) as in most versions the soul was believed to be made up of 4-5 (sometimes even more) parts. The most common that I've seen are the Ba, Ka, Ren, Ib and Shuyet. The Ba is the uniqueness or personality of a person and the part of the soul which lives on after death (though sometimes its also separate from the person to a degree, its weird). The Ka is the vital essence or life force, distinguishing the living from the dead. The Ren is the true name of a person, not just a label but a word which sums up your entire existence. Its very important since losing it could prevent you from reaching the afterlife. The Ib is the heart, the part of the soul which is weighed against the feather of Maat to determine if you were a good or bad person in life. The Shuyet is the shadow, basically an extension/imitation of a person's identity/individuality. Physical replicas or images of a person could also be considered "shadows" of that person.
