(4:54 - Main Presentation, 54:36 - Q&A)
Jennifer Doudna, co-discoverer of CRISPR-Cas9 and winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, discusses how genome editing with CRISPR technology is transforming biology. CRISPR-Cas9, an RNA-guided enzyme with remarkable abilities to recognize and cleave DNA, operates by mechanisms that both explain its biological function and provide insights into technology development. Doudna covers research into this amazing family of proteins: where they came from, how they work and how CAS-9-based technologies are revolutionizing research, biomedicine and agriculture. Recorded on 10/07/2019. [11/2019] [Show ID: 35215]

Science and technology continue to change our lives. University of California scientists are tackling the important questions like climate change, evolution, oceanography, neuroscience and the potential of stem cells.
UCTV is the broadcast and online media platform of the University of California, featuring programming from its ten campuses, three national labs and affiliated research institutions. UCTV explores a broad spectrum of subjects for a general audience, including science, health and medicine, public affairs, humanities, arts and music, business, education, and agriculture. Launched in January 2000, UCTV embraces the core missions of the University of California -- teaching, research, and public service - by providing quality, in-depth television far beyond the campus borders to inquisitive viewers around the world.

Or what a time to die if when perfected, this technology gets into the hands of Bill Gates and those like him, or into the hands of that sinister element of the transhumanism movement who has (basically) declared war on biology.

@@jefflawrence5835 Growth of technology is inevitable-yes. But the stagnation of emotional and spiritual growth in humans [avatisim] that drives so much of today's technical applications-and inventions-is not inevitable. A decadent culture, like China, is not inevitable. We can realign human personality, its perceptions and values, with a higher order of aesthetics, spirituality and compassion. With concomitant emotional growth and intellectual growth, technology serves actual needs. Although you'd argue this point, all technologies we humans invent, when you look closely at our innate capacities, are simply prostheses for capacities we don't use, don't acknowledge, haven't developed or have forgotten.

Why are some ants left-handed,by meaning that they can move by a pair of left handed false pair of walking legs attached to left antenna and the first left sided thoracic leg. There is no clue about the bacterial function of a RNA mis-guided enzyme "CRISPR-cas9 which is not about how the Central Dogma is edited by mutation in an ant. 16:15

A fantastic speaker. Very easy to follow and understand. It's too bad that no speaker on this subject talks about the previous use-and it's fantastic success in the Ukraine and Russia-of bacteriophages in the cure of bacterial infections. Why? A conflict of interest. Use bacteriophages and there's no multi-billion dollar vaccine industry.

We need a cure for HIV, there are almost 40 years of desert, people who got hurt looking for Love, people who struggle every day, don't restrict the cure, it's painful! we pay taxes we are professionals, parents children mothers grandparents, this is in the hands of science and government, science with genetic research, government accelerating authorization, and not favoring an industry that profits from suffering. YHWH Raphael aj help us. 2021. Shalom!

labeling things 'non-gmo' signals to customers that it's a niche kind-of health thing, a 'perk'. when really, it's more about the superstitious belief that we shouldn't play god. however, industrial farms tend to be environmentally degrading whether or not they use GMO seeds.

At 6:00. "I didn't know any scientists, and I certainly didn't know any female scientists". It only makes sense that if you didn't know any scientists at all you wouldn't have known any female scientists. It just shows that even geniuses and future Nobel Prize winners can commit verbal blunders.
