Into The Shadows - a cancelled PC, SEGA Saturn and Sony PlayStation title from 1996

Into The Shadows was an impressive looking 3D fantasy fighting game developed for Scavenger back in 1996 for #PC, #PlayStation and #Sega #Saturn. Only a rolling demo currently exists, but something playable is hoped to be found. Can it be saved?

Things were moving so fast back then that it's difficult to give the context that made this demo mindblowingly impressive back when it hit the scene. The lighting/shadows and animation were a step above anything most people had seen on their PC at the time but looking back it's only a few years away from those features being fairly mundane. Even if the game never made it I have to imagine this demo raised the bar for a lot of devs.

Although the original game was cancelled, parts of its technology can be seen on The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.

I remember being disappointed at QTest because Quake didn’t have smooth animations like this when it came out.

According to Robin Levy, the skeleton animation was motion captured - so i'm assuming it was the same for the other characters too.
