Very nice video and nice paddling. Some friendly advice, offered with complete sincerity. There seemed to be some loose rope issues when you wiped out. It's certainly OK to wipe out, but plan for it. Make sure your painters are floating ropes, only the length of the boat, and securely tied down in the stern / bow of the canoe. Call it a clean-line principle. I've seen non-floating ropes chock on the river bottom in rapids, which will pull a boat or entangled paddler to the river bottom. Ropes are possibly the top hazard in moving water. Keep charging!
@ExploreTheBackcountry
@ExploreTheBackcountry 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 100% and I only really noticed that when reviewing the footage. There was a rope in a throw bag all set and stayed coiled, but I totally forgot to remove my tie down rope I use for transportation on my truck. That's what you see floating about. A real DOH moment there.

@ExploreTheBackcountry
@ExploreTheBackcountry 3 жыл бұрын
Well I hoped you dreamed of wave trains and slick lines! Actually, I think the best feeling is after a day of big whitewater, when you finally lie down for bed, you can still feel a bit of the up and down motion from the river coursing through your body. It's pretty cool. The only other times I've ever experienced that was after a day of roller coasters. Take care and happy paddling!

Pretty stretch of water. My first time there was about 60 years ago. Years later took my kids during low water levels when they were 10 and 14 for warm weather body surfing at “5 Fingers” and had a blast! I’ll not divulge the best fishing locations however. Recommend the bread and tarts at Boulangerie Chez Jean-Marc in Sturgeon Falls, fabulous.

Awesome video, great multi-angle shots. My friends are looking at options in Canada for a trip after the Allagash River last year. A little bigger rapids on your trip. I will definitely look into Temagani River, I have a buddy that fishes Lake Temagani every year.

Temagami Rive is a pretty short run, but you can combine it with all the other area routes to create one seamless wilderness trip of virtually any length. There's over 4700km of interconnected waterways to explore. Other good whitewater runs in the region include the Sturgeon, Lady Evelyn, Marten and Makobe Rivers. Happy planning! Highly suggest you pick up a planning map and give it a look over.

Ah thanks! The website is on my list of things to update. Just keeps getting delayed. I'll have to look into it. Appreciate the heads up! As for maps, I make them from scratch in Photoshop and then animated them in Premiere. I've been experimenting a bit with Google Earth and overlaying some layers like place names etc in Premiere (See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWbHg3WphMeEe68)

Great run, as expected. So you were cold because of rain, not because of the 2 dumps?
@ExploreTheBackcountry
@ExploreTheBackcountry 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, probably a bit of both. The drysuits kept us toasty, but the temps dipped after those runs and that cold wind and rain just dives into your core. There's about 10km of swifts and flatwater before the take out and the chill was setting in as we paddled that final section. Last rapids loooked really tempting but we were shivering and thinking it was a bad idea. If we had to keep going we would have swapped base layers to something warmer.
