The thing with INTPs over explaining stuff, apart from the fact that we love to explain, is trying to get people are on the same page. We learn from experience that some of our ideas seem left field to other people, so it's like showing your working in a maths exam. It's either showing others kind of where the idea came from or giving them the opportunity to tells us where we went wrong. For INTPs being wrong is annoying, but if we get new information about where we went wrong that is intriguing. We would rather be corrected than keep a wrong idea.

Extroverted Intuition can cover for a lot of weaknesses. Once the INTP has built a working model of the world in their head they tend to start finding ways of "hacking" society for their benefit. Becoming in touch with extroverted feeling and then anticipating people's reactions can go a long ways. When social interactions stop going in unexpected directions, they stop being as awkward and the anxiety can slip away. That's not to say that throwing unexpected reactions won't throw an experienced INTP off their game.

As an INTP, I’ve generally been introverted, awkward and quiet around new people that I’ve met but I’ve generally had a good social circle growing up where I’ve had to get out of my comfort zone in order to achieve my goals whether it’s promoting concerts, running an organization that promotes Metal music, DJing EBM / Synthpop music, and at work. I’ve struggled a lot with connecting with people who are interested in the things that I do though because of that awkwardness and I’ve generally stuck to impersonal ways to promote what I’m doing. My goal was never to gain recognition but only to promote the things that I loved.

This is sound advice I think. Curiosity has given me so much throughout my life! In that way I love ne. Ne is what gives me new thoughts and challenges. Without it life becomes boring and I become bored. It's what took me through my 20:s and 30:s. Lately I've been thinking a lot about Fe though. In my youth I thought that everyone would like to hear what I had to say but as I've grown up it's been quite clear that many people either don't have time to try to understand, think it's silly or feels threatened by it. That I think has really bitten into that fe insecurity. I'm slowly digging myself out of that and have recently been encouraged to say what's on my mind a lot more. Hopefully I can find a little louder voice again. It feels important to get that fe component in place after all what does my knowledge and skills matter if I keep it for myself. Ne can help take the clarity and broadcast it not only to others but more importantly to other IDEAS. Which helps with observing patterns. Also, in reverse, it helps find and recall patterns or anomalies in patterns. I am surprised often by my recall in this way, when my short term memory is lousy. I’m 52 INTP and female. I’ve made conscious efforts to form quality relationships but my intense and varied interests mean I have something to discuss with most people. I only struggle with people who want to stay in the superficial. Learning to forgive myself for my mistakes in the past has helped me mature. I can still cringe at a sudden memory but I reign it in much faster now. Great analogy of INTP. In my experience males are quite different from females. 19:17

Shieeet, this really hit the nail on the head. I had doubts I was really an INTP despite multiple tests coming back with the same result and was actually hoping I had just mistyped myself. Kinda glossed over the initial parts about the stereotypical traits (smart, quiet, etc) coz I felt it might have played a part in skewing my results, if my suspicions were true, that I mistyped myself into INTP because I wanted to be seen as smart or smth? But the second half really took me by surprise how accurate it was, frighteningly so. Not all of it was smth you'd want to hear about yourself but I can't deny them either. I generally don't like to share about myself because I can't help feeling like an absolute failure in life and the childhood issues I've struggled with. I'm at a crossroads in my life at the moment, actively trying to put myself out there (joined the army reserve, started a bussiness, picked up the harmonica, etc) coz one of my biggest regrets in life has always stemmed from my inaction, but it's always been an uphill struggle for me since I was a kid. The advice from this video is exactly what I've been trying to implement for myself these past couple years, though progress feels slow for me. I'm kinda glad to know I'm not alone in my struggles, I've actually been searching up to see if I should get diagnosed for autism for some years now. Now I can keep up the fight knowing I *am* relatively 'normal' and a successful outcome is definitely within the realm of possibility for me. Thank you very much 🥰

I took the test yesterday and it told me I'm an INTP, and I feel represented by 80% of what you said in the video. I'm an 28yr old male and excessive introversion led me to anxiety. Talking to the same friends about the same niche topics (basically games and movies) really took a toll in the long run for me, and while currently I'm trying to be more extrovert and trying new things, I find it hard to connect with new people. I suppose I'll eventually learn, although a bit late. The thing I'm not sure about is my similarities with INFPs. I'm really moved by emotional bits in movies, games, etc. I'd like to be a video game writer and, while I haven't really tried to write all that much (I think it's because that Si thing about not doing new things) I have all those ideas in my head about stories that would be really emotional, and I'd like those stories to touch people's hearts as much as they do touch mine.

also commenting on a 2 year video, so hope you still see this and find value from this: a lot of the "functions" have idiosyncratic definitions. When thinking about "Fi" (introverted feeling) vs "Ti" (introverted thinking), I think it's better to see "Fi" as being about "personal values" than merely about emotions or feelings. So, like, the main difference between INTP leading with "Ti" and INFP leading with "Fi" is that an INTP wants internal *logic* to make sense, be rigorous, etc., and will likely be very conflicted/unhappy if things are not aligned to their own internal logic. For Fi, we want things to align with our *personal values*. As an INFP, I *like* to think that my personal values are logical, but really, it's more about vibes. When I talk to other people and try to make arguments, a lot of people say, "hey that isn't as logical as you think." But it still feels "right" to me, and to me, if there is any conflict between vibes and logic, vibes will win every time. Even if the logic is "objectively correct", I have to live with my personal values. So, like when thinking about movies, games, etc., I often think about the character motivations, especially for villains. Extroverted Feeling (Fe) might look at the morals and values of the larger group, but for Fi, I am more interested in whether the villain has personal values that ring as solid and beilevable to them. It's not about whether they are making a good "logical" argument, just whether or not their actions imply consistency with their values. if that makes sense?
@Linkale_ Жыл бұрын
@@subversiveasset I read your comment. Then maybe I could be a INFP. I try and tell to myself I'm logical, but of the time my beliefs are just coming from a personal set of rules that are just based upon what those things make me feel. My therapist is always telling me I should think out of the box more frequently, because these rules can be very strict for no reason
@subversiveasset Жыл бұрын
@Linkale_ it depends on what the "personal set of rules" depends on and how the "make me feel" part works. The last part about the rules being "strict for no reason" is also interesting. I think an INTP Ti user would spend a lot of time trying to develop and articulate a system of logic for why the rules "make sense". This is even if the rules ultimately personal, they have a logic and a structure. In contrast, for an Fi, trying to break out into rigorous logic would be difficult. Vibes don't have to "make sense"...they just are. An Fi user can have very demanding...hmm, "tastes", "values", "vibes", etc., but would be hard pressed to explain why. (even trying to find the right word is a challenge. I would know it when I see it, but can't explain it.)

It’s refreshing to hear such a positive reflection on INTPs. Not only are the reclusive robot stereotypes out there, but I’ve dealt with a whole lot of ridicule/dislike/invalidation in varying degrees since I was very young. I accidentally offend people everywhere I go, which sucks even more because I’m usually careful NOT to offend. I’d bet that at least twice a week, I’ll do or say something a certain way in order to be complimentary or positive, and it will be received in the 100% diametrically opposite way…. It’s one of my traits I dislike the most. Another thing you kinda touched on was that were so open to new ideas and perspectives that it does two things: it’s hard to figure out your own identity and opinions, and it makes us moral relativists. I’ll play devils advocate about pretty much anything just to make people think. But then I struggle with identity and always have. That’s largely from childhood but the compulsion to consider every possible angle means that my values and opinions are constantly evolving. It makes it hard to keep a consistent in-group over time.

Good video. As an INTP I've always wondered though about the functions and how exactly that works, this was helpful. One thing I would say is every time I test I've always been an INTP, but there's a common thread that seems to say we're more likely to be less outgoing but I've always been extremely outgoing. I love spending time alone more than being social I even have an anxiety disorder but regardless of that I'm very very outgoing playful and super in touch with my emotions and have no issue talking about them. While I could spend all day at home without it bothering me I truly love to be out in nature and outdoors. That's always seemed to contradict a bit of what part of INTP is described as. I'm not sure why that is because any test I've ever taken I'm still INTP. My favorite part of being an INTP is the unquenchable thirst for knowledge analyzing and learning is way more fun than socializing to me. Often I have many many things to talk about and people always seem to find that interesting, but rarely do they fully grasp the concepts of ideas put forth which can be really frustrating because I always wanna share what I'm learning about 🤣. Often I'll be talking to one person and explaining something I'm learning about and I get really excited and really into it and then I notice a few people I didn't realize were there standing and listening to me, which I find very strange because doing interviews or public speech is what will trigger my anxiety. Question for anyone that might know? Are INTP's usually really excitable when explaining things? Cuz I don't see that in any of the literature about them.

I Think you nailed it for me about being an intp. I am an assertive type. Being far away from home and having dealt with traumatic events in my life, I catapulted myself to new heights psychologically. The way you described the cool exterior since I am older was on point and you were right about being a good conversationalist. I was confused between the 2 type: intp and infp, however, your analysis made it very clear that I was an intp. Good job on your analysis. ☮️

One, the correcting is from poor impulse control. Sometimes I'm good about it and other times it slips. Two, for me, the correcting isn't about putting someone down but bringing someone up. I'm pretty sure no one thinks they're superior for taking a sec to fix a crooked picture. There we go, now you're at your best. Tho I did also grow up in a criticizing household. But yes, if I corrected someone about something as miniscule as being a month off when it's not detrimental I'd be doing it for self correction.

I am thoroughly impressed by your accuracy - at least in my own life. Many of us can objectively see through veils the world puts up and thus are hesitant to be so open or trusting. Time and shared experiences and even values and/or interests are keys.

I sometimes feel like nothing into does is good enough in the eyes of people around. Either I talk too little and look like an introvert or I get excited and talk too much and everyone thinks this is odd and excessive or I go too deep into a topic or a conversation and people get overwhelmed or loose interest or I happen to know many thing about every single topic being discussed in any occasion and then I look like a smart ass or like I am bragging, or I strongly disagree, have valid arguments to correct wrong thinking and it backfires.I think after sometime when one tries different approach to social life you either get quite good at pretending, dampening your natural response which is the hardest thing for INTP or withdraw and focus in developing interest or hobbies or in worst case scenario get a bit down and depressed and loose interest in things that are to be interesting and pleasurable. It’s not the easiest thing to be an INTP although I would not swap my personality for another, except maybe if I could sometimes borrow vision and bravado from ENTJ or at least work closely with this personality on a daily basis.

Being an INTP through and through, I think most of the things you mentioned are accurate. Of course the Ti always rules!! lol I think though, I honed my Ne and Fe a lot earlier in life, thanks to how my parents raised me. I have lived on my own since I was 19 (im 33 now), since then I have been exploring different things that I haven't thought I was remotely interested with in the past - playing and being a club manager for a soccer team (mixed club), travelling locally and internationally (this I always want to do solo), foodie reviewer, a mountaineer, long distance run and marathons, and so many other stuff going on and still interested to try a lot more. I also always join the employee engagement team of the company I work for to be able to be more "out there" in a work setting - because if I'm not tasked to engage w/ people I'm pretty much seen as reclusive and standoffish, which I don't mind really. 🤷♀️🤷♀️ I'm still a long way to go on being open about feelings/emotions, and I guess not to over talk about things (as seen on my essay comment). lol

As a young INTP, my Introverted Thinking is what led to me realizing how much I love the "Extroverted Intuition" part of myself. So much so, that later down the line, when I was first learning about MBTI, and I didn't really know how the system worked, I just could not tell wether I was an ENTP or an INTP based off of the tests & descriptions. I only found out that I was actually an INTP after learning how function stacks worked.

Probably also explains why I love road trips; you can get out there but also stay in your own space. Would I love dating advice? Yes. Would I ever act on it? No. :D Such is how my brain works. I don't know how not to be too reliant on the past. Your world view is molded and shaped by your past experience. Your personal value your ethics, your moral compass. Your successes and failures. I personally feel that my entire life is a series of pointless decision that has lead me to where I am, I blame myself for not having the strength and the will to do anything to change my situation. I don't actually see a point in going forward. Cause I don't believe I have the strength required to pull myself out of the hole I've dug myself into. I don't know that I can change enough to get to that point. Additionally, I am dreadfully scared of ending my life alone. People keep telling me that you should not look into someone else for your happiness and should be able to be happy by yourself but I have been alone for the majority of my adult life and I want none of it. I don't know what to do anymore.

The path gave me the hope to find the meaning of life and become super self control.

I’m just now discovering this video and your channel, and I am intrigued! I loved the video and am enjoying the comments! 😊 I don’t know about the island thing, but I’m wondering if there are other INTPs who wonder if the internet went away and you were a lone survivor in an apocalyptic event if you’d know (or be able to figure out) how to make vinegar?? I don’t know why, but for some reason, I always come back to vinegar because I think if I could make it, it stands to reason I’d be able to preserve food, etc. That being said, despite the surprising regularity with which I have this thought, I’ve never actually taken the time to research the process. Perhaps the scenario seems too far fetched. Perhaps I don’t even want to survive under such conditions. Perhaps I know deep down that vinegar is not the solution to all of life’s food worries. But I may have just talked myself into studying the topic now. 🤔

(INTP) I'm middle aged and consider myself a healthy INTP. Although I dislike in-person conversations, phone calls, phone texting, or video chats... I do enjoy direct messaging because I can take my time and say what I mean instead of fumbling for words or focusing on trivial things like "if I'm conversing properly".. as if my inner dialog doesn't shut off even when I'm engaged in a live conversation and tend to dissect and analyze the entire experience in real time. What I really dislike is when people ask me "how are you" because I don't inherently understand the question... it's an instant trigger because it takes me immediately to shadow function Fi and that's a very uncomfortable area for me to access.
@arcadianfox81273 жыл бұрын
"INTP are great conversationalists." ..."But only if they act like ENTP and use Ne-Fe" So, really what you're saying is: If you could only converse with a single person for the rest of your life, you'd want them to be an ENTP. Not an INTP.

My life is a series of existential crises. Have both high-functioning autism and ADHD. I am extremely introverted and prefer my inner world. I recharge in solitude but am not shy or quiet. I hate small talk and struggle with social interactions. I get exhausted from being around people and having to mask. I have struggled with addictions, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. I do not get embarrassed over things that most neurotypical people do, because It does not make sense to me to care about what others think about arbitrary petty things. I am an auditory processor so I think out loud when organizing the big picture after collecting data through extraverted intuition. Then I monologue and info dump. I go into solitude about every six months. I did the opposite of what you described. I explored early in life. I left home as a teenager and did not start settling down until my late 30s. The ADHD I think helped me with this because I was chasing dopamine to an extreme. I also experienced a lot of trauma. I learned a lot but I fried my nervous system. I get panic attacks and overstimulated and burnt myself out from masking. I never learned to regulate myself enough. I was misdiagnosed as a teen. I was not correctly diagnosed with AuDHD until my 50s.

I think it generally depends on the individual INTP too. For example, my English teacher knowing my brain was able to rattle off accurate information but information that I deem to be accurate and are in accordance with my stance and beliefs at that stage in my life pushed me towards participating in debate competitions and playing the devil's advocate with her during free classes. This has developed into me a different analysis pattern I didn't know I could approach with and hence I'm much faster when I talk if necessary and I do exhibit ENTP traits during those moments but I know those are just moments cause I am the guy who murders myself mentally over the patterns I could have actually discussed on stage that I was too naive to notice and only notice after the event is over and it spirals me into an information daze where I gather more info on it. For example I understand language is a human conception hence to correct language is not something I prefer because it allows me to connect more patterns where I can extrapolate information from wrongful presentation of information, spoonerisms or wordplay are also amazing me because they provide a different pattern on language construction and how small changes impact the whole narrative like it's an integration class in mathematics. I enjoy thinking, I relish it. The possibilities of thoughts are endless. Even the word endless should be sort of "no end" because the meaning is actually never ending and not less ending than before it's not a relative state. These are the thoughts I have.

The assertion that when younger INTPs are awkward, introspective, and often loners (paraphrasing), whilst older they can often integrate the Si/Fe parts into their personality more, is so true I find. I was lucky in that as a youngster I was both smart and sporty (rugby team/weights club/gymnastics etc), so didn't end up the bullied nerd, but found it very difficult to cultivate friends - I had acquaintances, but out of school lived in my bedroom with a home computer - or in the gym. Now, in my early 50s, I am at ease with talking to any and everyone, am a joker, and get on well with everyone. I have always been optimistic and never depressive, so was lucky there too of avoiding those weaknesses, but could never get past the "Hi" stage with people I liked and knew liked me. I feel though this is very much a learned trait, this extroversion around others, it look me my life to semi-master it - I still have very few friends and no one I would call a best friend, and outside of work and the odd office get-together, I still sit in my room alone (or my home gym lol). I have been married twice and had 5 kids, so not entirely alone; girls were attracted to me, and to be honest they did all the work with the initial courtship - girlfriends I was never shorty of - but always one at a time and for durations, not one night stands. I'm just not sure how much of the ability to socialise and even be a part of the life and soul of the party is like a sociopath learning to emulate feelings rather than actually acquiring them - not implying I am a sociopathy by the way ;).

I don’t give a shit about being “right” during a discussion, I care about being correct by the end. There’s nothing I love more than having my own bad or incomplete knowledge corrected by other people too. You say I’m wrong?!? THANK YOU TELL ME WHY NOOOW PLEASE GOD PLEASE!!!! Legit getting new info is better than a cocaine fueled orgasm. Not that any INTP will ever experience the difference. Also I gotta send some love back your way, INTJ’s rock. More reason I’m INFP and not INTP like I tested years ago. I don’t really care that the language is completely accurate, just that I get the main points of what’s being said. I don’t feel the need to correct minor inconsistencies like what month something happened, unless I’m joking a friend. These are some of the best videos covering the functions. I think your Te is a very good tool for presenting info in a simplified way where it is structured and kind of to the point in a way others can grasp and put to use. Ni probably helps too as my Ne would have me going in circles to explain it.

Wow this was an incredible video. I used to think that I was an INTJ, but recently I took the Sarkinova test and I got INTP with my Ti being 40😅. Nearly 10 months of thinking I was an INTJ, but lately I've been thinking that I'm actually an INTP. I also realized that before college I used little to no Te at all, and now I'm going back into my old ways of an INTP. I feel like I had no other choice but to learn time management and things like planning things out and using back up plans, but now I just don't feel like I have to use those as much. It's all so weird because now I feel like I'm getting my reality flipped and coming to terms with what I really am. I am an INTP and here is my take on myself, I recluse myself on purpose and feel the majority doesn't think enough and acts emotionally and unreasonable. I am constantly in my own head and it never stops, there isn't a moment my mind rests other than sleep. I talk too much when given the chance because it's not about being right it's about giving the listener and myself all the information my brain can muster. I can clean it up later in my mind although the listener can be overwhelmed. I'm highly intelligent but can't seem to get a damn thing done because my brain is constantly fixing shit I don't even want it to. I hold onto pain and problems for years longer than most and it's hard for me to forgive as to me the choice seemed common sense and they missed. I'm hard on people but harder on myself. I can make a jumble of info into something that makes sense to most. I am certainly not optimistic lol and I hate what the world has become. I feel isolated and that I don't much belong among others.Still I know this is just me so sometimes act out of norms to appease others. I'm not socially retarded, I'm just not social.

My mind exhausts me because it's like that bulldog puppy on looney toons that is always asking spike what they are going to do. My body is exhausted but my mind is hyper so I sit down and watch videos till my mind is ready for sleep. I almost feel like my mind is like a hyper child that I have to chase and try to keep up with sometimes my mind has me doing 3 things at once which is overwhelming.
