As an INTP myself, I've noticed that most people tend to think of me as a pessimist, and my opinions are usually met with rejection, because I almost never tend to validate other people's assertions but put them under scrutiny instead. I can't help playing the Devil's advocate. It's not about being right at all, but about being the least wrong possible. BTW, good videos!

Redshift yeah, people think that I'm a pessimist too, but for me, it's not pessimism, it's just wanting to test EVERYTHING. I want to be sure, you know? So even if I see science in front me, or cold hard statistics, I will still question it. It's not specific people or ideas, usually. Like Zach said, it's kind of like I just want everything to be up in the air. I can see why it might be annoying and considered pessimistic, but oh well 😂

I completely relate to 'it's about being the least wrong possible'. I also notice that my skepticism or 'flawfinding' in arguments that lack logic often lead others to wrongly attribute the opposing pov to me without any evidence whatsoever. It's pointless debating when you want to fine-tune an argument or help someone reduce their 100% commitment to a faulty premise/conclusion, when all they want to do is take a position and cling to it. The more wrong someone is, the more emotional they usually become and the harder they mischaracterize your reservations. On the other hand if someone demonstrates to me I am mistaken, I rectify easily, as correcting inaccuracy matters even in the context of provisional truths. This is why building our everexpanding map of the world will probably be a life-long task, unless self enquiry leads to some kind of enlightenment/ ultimate truth that ends all doubts.

In attempting to take many different perspectives on numerous concepts I've come to the conclusion that you can justify anything you believe; at least to yourself. I think the pain an INTP feels when confronted with different perceptions is the fact that logic doesn't necessarily equate to truth. Once you realise you can't understand anything the depth of nihilism becomes terrifying to the INTP.

I’m still internally arguing with people I argued with years ago. I wish it was easier to let it go.

INTP's are geared to find a universal, logically consistent world view based on logical principles that are not falsifiable. It is what drives them, and if not careful they can polarize people, although INTP's are the least likely to care, lol. The vast majority of people and society as a whole are introverted feelers, whether in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th slot...so most people do not reach conclusions about the world logically, so even though objectively their views are shredded by the INTP's logic, most people's egos will simply not accept it or they will use a plethora of fallacious mechanisms to continue believing what they believe. Watch any religious debate, especially Richard Dawkins, an INTP, people are completely incapable of broadening their perspective outside of what they currently have solidified into their belief system. Watch Dawkins be infuriated by people's incapacity to accept logic. When we are in such a minority, it can be easy to succumb to self doubt.

I'm an ENTP btw, so I feel the struggle too, but since I would rather just leave things open anyway, these types of scenarios are met with a more light hearted "whatever, they're just dumb" kind of blasé. Still eats me alive sometimes though.

I find myself testing people’s morals by being a devil’s advocate but mostly because of my wild imagination.

This is a very good video. I posited earlier in a video that INTPs are looking to find the looseness and vulnerability in each set of perspectives, and that they are most comfortable, as you say here, with "everything up in the air." It's an odd contradiction. The INTP yearns so for finality, and does not find it, that they resort to the finality of skepticism

Very true. I find myself paying devils advocate a lot when I feel like it's needed in order to get people to tighten loose ends in their logic. And causes me to implement it into my own logic for a more contestant broader understanding.

Yeah...."being the least wrong" is an absolute great way to put it. You know you're never gonna be fully right, and that sucks, but it's the most realistic viewpoint. When I arrive at new insights that contradict my old, I go back to the ones I'm sure about (that I can observe in reality) and start to rebuild again, taking in mind what I am sure about and which things are not (these days I take pretty much anything 'science' says with a grain of salt, because the more I learn about it, indeed as stated, it's an everlasting changing thing that always claims to be "The truth" at any given time. It's more like Te-kind-of-truth. We all agree that science is now is absolutely right and was always wrong before, and but back then when it was wrong, we were all sure it was right too......Right..

I also experience times when I question myself after conversations. I think there are multiple reasons that this happens - many of which you mentioned. I think there is a need of INTPs to convey accurate information and I hate to say something that is incorrect. Like you also said I want to be perceived as a person that if informed and correct in my thinking. I also think that since we are very logical in our approach we wonder why other people are not thinking on the same logical basis. Thanks for the video I appreciate all of the points.

Thanks for making videos where an INTP explains what it's like to be an INTP. I have never heard these unique perspectives before, but it's helping me to make better sense of what it means to be an INTP
