Got a good story you could cover, it's about the throat ear and nose specialist who invented a plastic wind pipe, then started going to Eastern Europe to find people with throat cancer to try his intention out, bypassing safety trials and animal testing to quickly try to prove and market his new invention. After 5 or 6 weeks, the patients started to smell a funny smell. This was their selves slowly rotting on the inside. The surgeon wasn't even in the country anymore, and these poor people with families couldn't do anything, and not even any hospital could do anything. You should cover this story to warn people about medical nightmares and rogue doctors.

It should be noted with the cave paintings the boys didn't leave the place for a week and then come back with a Priest. They arranged a watch over the cave and camped out protecting until someone with enough cloute could get the attention of the proper professionals to research and preserve the site.

Of all of the giant stone moving I've tried to wrap my head around, I find this one the easiest to rationalize. They carved giant boulders into balls, rolled them where they needed to go, then carved it into a head. To do it any other way would be insanity. This is the only time I've thought that's plausible. Still, ridiculously time consuming, and impressive.

Cave paintings can be thought of as an ancient form of pictionary as the depictions are a way to better portray a message. This just shows that they had used a very basic language but still used visual stimuli to tell a story. They also used carved wooden pieces shaped like animals like dolls.

When I was a teenager, I saw the original documentary about Otzi, and I could plainly see an arrowhead on the xrays they had taken, but they kept saying they didn't know how he had died, but probably from exposure. Back then, there was no way of contacting the scientists except by letter, and I didn't have an address. A few years later, it was then announced that Otzi had died after being shot with an arrow! That something so obvious had been completely missed by the "experts" has made me question so-called experts ever since.

I'm amazed that people denied for so long the ability of common people to labor to create colossal art (for whatever purpose). I always think of the massive cathedrals built with stone that was brought by men, women and children both in celebration and penance rather than as forced labor. I want to visit Ur, both as a historian and a lover of dogs. It's a long running measure of the best, worst, and most humane of who we were and still are.

Don't forget that prehistoric almost means hunter-gatherers. They didn't have the large food stores of the agriculture revolution. Work on large structure like the Olmec heads would require working for a bit, get more food, working for a bit, get more food,... It would take a very long time, perhaps generations.
@AnamLiath
@AnamLiath Жыл бұрын
@@ShawnHCorey so does every great community project, whether feeding the artists or the workers. There is a passion in community and civic art that binds communities together for generations. I'm sure grandparents told the little ones, "this is the work of my father, and your father dressed the stone for the nave floor". My city has an almost obnoxiously ornate capitol building. My great uncles, for 3 generations, had the company that gilded the towers and cupolas. My grand fathers on the other side did masonry and prepared the surfaces for the murals. And those were modern and only a handful of generations. Most of us have been horse trainers lol.

@@ShawnHCorey an interesting idea but they already had cities and an abundance of extra food which could be sent to the next day camp. It’s more likely these were moved by the general population as the Pyramids were built as a religious function. Remember the Great Pyramid was not the first pyramid to be built. Several other smaller and sometimes unsuccessful pyramids were built first and with each one not only was the pyramid built but the infrastructure for taking care of the workers were thoroughly built up too.

On the colossal heads: To be fair, Olmec civilization straddles the line between prehistory and history, given that archaeology has found stilae with carved glyphs that very strongly suggest there was a writing system in place early on. The problem is, aside from what Simon mentioned about dating rocks, that we can’t really decipher these glyphs except for those depicting numbers or dates.

Ancient Egypt is well overrated. Sumerians invented writing, and their number system is still used today to tell time and for geometry. Egyptian maths was quite poor, especially fractions. The Sumerian sexagesimal system made for far more accurate fractions. Sumerian writing system was adapted by others until it eventually was replaced by invaders writing system. Hieroglyphics was replaced by the likes of Coptic because even the Egyptians realised what a horrible system of recording data it was...lol

They did take that in mind and continue to do so with each new discovery about this individual. Yet even if he dressed completely different from his fellow Copper Age people; from just his sewing techniques, what leathers he used, the other fabrics of his outfit, how his copper axe was affixed, his tattoos, his hunting gear, etc... all this gives us an idea of the technical aspects of his community at large and not just of a single individual.

“The American education system failed you and you didn’t know that there really was a civilization that did this” my fourth grade teacher carrying all the weight of my Native American prehistory (school) teachings: 💪👩‍🏫 To be fair to a few of my other later history teachers a few of them did cover more recent history surrounding Native American peoples and I’m pretty sure more than one covered the Aztecs and stuff. I just remember my fourth grade teacher covering prehistoric stuff and pre-contact stuff more than any of my other teachers and she was pretty good about it too. No shade to my sixth grade teacher who covered more modern stuff, but out of elementary school teachers (and my pre-k through 12 teachers in general) my fourth grade teacher was the best about covering stuff from the Clovis people to the snake mound to the Olmec people. Weirdly enough my seventh grade math teacher probably taught me the most about the Pueblo cities when she went over some math stuff that involved buildings. I don’t remember any of that math stuff but I do remember the Pueblo cities. I mean, desert cliff cities??? How cool is that?! Her classes also improved my ability to draw trees when she covered fractals. Not the information she intended us to remember, but it’s the information I do.

I believe the cave was an indoctrination ceremonial area where young boys(girls too?)were taken to tell them about hunting showing them where to throw their Spears and at what time of the year. Also as a gruesome side note I also believe that they killed Mares near foaling killing the near birth foal at the same time. A delicacy? Two for the price of one?

At the end of a huge battle he fell to his knees and said, _"I am Otzi Man"_ and snapped his fingers before falling over dead. His body was all that remained of the aftermath.

Silly question perhaps but why was the dog named Robot if robots weren’t invented yet? Did the word have a different meaning in the past?

While the Olmecs are fascinating, it is not considered the first major civilization in the Americas. That would be the Norte Chico in Peru. They predated the Olmecs by two millennia. However, the Olmecs were the first major civilization in Mesoamerica. Still a fascinating people.

Lascaux paintings are not the first cave paintings found... The spanish Altamira cave were found by Modesto Cubillas in 1868 and examined by Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola and his little 9 year old daughter, she went exploring the cave and found the paintings.. Nobody believed the findings and Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola was deemed a fraud until 1902 were other cave paintings were found..but sadly Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola never got to enjoy the glory, he passed away 14 yrs before.
