Man, I was hoping to see more compact VR headsets further down the line. Glad to see the support for VR is still going. If it turns out to be great I'd be willing to sell my Valve Index for this. Such a clean trailer as well, really well made. Didn't expect Bigscreen to start making headsets but I'm down for it.

This is actually aimed Directly at the Index user that’s ready for an HMD upgrade. Notice that’s All BigScreen is developing ATM, just the HMD (the sound strap doesn’t really count IMO). The controllers are Index, and the device is made For SteamVR.
@niloticshadow
@niloticshadow Жыл бұрын
@@AloysiusVelocitor Ah, I see. The overall specs seems impressive to me. Although I would have liked to have those off-ear headphones since the quality on those are amazing, and how you're able to hear everything without it pressing onto your head was a nice idea that I wish other companies could pick up on. But I guess the durability of those may concern some. Also, I've noticed that the FOV is somewhat smaller on this device so I hope that doesn't take away from the experience that people are used to with the Index. But if the resolution and the screen quality in general can provide a greater experience in watching movies or playing games on apps like Bigscreen then I'm excited to see more from this. Especially if it's able to stay cool throughout a session since most headsets tend to get hot after a while. The Valve Index is still a decent device but I feel like VR just isn't there yet for that kind of experience.

2.5K striped oled. This is the holly grail of VR. I guess i want to know a bit more info about the panel. Does it have a white subpixel? Is it bright enough? Does it have microlens array or quantum dot? Can you drive the displays of such large resolution at 90hz without interlacing or foviated rendering?
@UltimateAK86

The panel is apparently capable of 3000 nits, but the pancake optics cut that down a lot, and cap at ~90 degrees FOV. It seems the laws of physics are being challenged by this extremely small design. I'm so ready to see this device in person.

Alright, gotta make sure no data leaks out of those 3D Face Scans. Also not having more than 93 degrees of FOV's gonna hurt when used to the Index's 120-130 degrees. Now Quest users already used to refresh rates at 80-90 Hz won't seemingly see any difference, but if you love higher rates like on the Index then it seems not the headset for you yet. I will admit however that their solution to have magnetically clipped prescription lenses (and having support for prescription lenses in the first place) is a really nice concept. Now to see if they accept positive diopters. I'll still wait to see what MeganeX has in store.

If I had the money, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Most people would argue the lack of content is the biggest issue with vr right now, but it'd be a close second to comfort for me personally. If I could play Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Boneworks, Bonelab, and Blade and Sorcery without having to worry about the growing fatigue of the pressure on my head and face, I'd be in vr waaaaaaaaay more. I won't be getting this, but this really shows how close we are to a future with small goggle-like headsets. The Quest Pro and upcoming Quest 3 are already looking pretty damn small. So there's no excuse for pcvr headsets to be so enormous.

I'm a bit worried about the custom fit face gasket. It's based on the 3D scan of your face at a given time, but tomorrow or the day after, my face may swell/shrink because of reasons X or Y and the face gasket won't be a perfect fit anymore. I kind of wish there was some kind of "universal gel pads" you could use (you know, like how hearing protection muffs can have gel cushions instead of foam cushions sometimes). On the downside, it means the headset must be firmly pressed against your face. On the plus side, gel makes it hundreds of times more comfortable than foam.

WAOW looks too good on paper to be real! Fantastic and very unexpected new. I love the fact it is designed by Bigscreen so we know the visual and comfort experience is without a doubt very well designed. I'm skeptical about the field of view but based on the provided data, it's not too bad as it is even slightly better than the Rift S. With a little chance a small FOV could not be a problem when the visual quality is spot on. What is guaranteed at least, is it's not a problem for cinematographic experiences!

honestly, i just started shopping around to get a new headset this week and this is the one i would have gotten but i like my friends to use my vr headset too and the over personalization of this one made it a deal breaker. its a shame too because if it had a more universal fit and allowed us to change the spacing of the eyes for each person using it at that given time i would have jumped on the preorder. had to go with another one instead :(. so close to being perfect but too much of a focus on personalization was done with it

So what’s the app’s support? Can Apple users use this with the App Store? I mean, what about android? I haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere.

You only need to borrow an Apple phone to scan your face. After that you don’t need any phone at all. It just connects to your pc and steam vr

Sold my HP Reverb G2 that I was running with Index controllers & lighthouses and am looking forward to the light weight and a headset that's designed to run on steam & their hardware. I kind of regretted pre-ordering the G2 with it's crappy tracking & controllers and hopefully wont be disappointed with the Bigscreen Beyond that I pre-ordered.

Wow. Beautiful and impressive. Finally something new that isn’t using inside-out tracking regardless, but not something I can get since I’d need more/better base stations and controllers to use it. Also want built in headphones/mic. And I’m not sure about all the specs, physical IPD is a must for me. That price is crazy too…
@dominicisidore

The headset gets made for your specific IPD from a scan of your face and they also have prescription lenses that you can magnetically fit on.

The Beyond has a very high quality built in microphone array comparable to the Valve Index (one of the best around). They also have a headphone / headstrap if desired (optionally).

Supposedly each uOLED panel in this HMD apparently costs around $500 to buy standalone. All together, they aren't making much on this extremely cutting edge technology.
@CentriVR

@@UltimateAK86 thata really surprising actually. Given (what I'm assuming is) the relatively low production quantity, I don't know how big screen would make a profit per unit. That's really interesting but still means I can't buy it easily. 😭 It's probably less than 500 if they bought them in bulk or something.

Exciting to see the specs getting better in VR. Still have a modded Pro2 and holding out for that next upgrade. It's getting there, but still not seen anything mind-blowing yet. Wireless, FOV, better res. It can't be far away now.

Wired is better than wireless for bandwidth purposes. You cannot physically make a wireless headset that will be agnostic of stream latency and compression. But oh well, why would you ever think about that, your problem is "wire". In reality tho, wired headsets rival all the wireless options when it comes to picture quality and latency.
