My first engine build had a similar issue, the distributor was installed 180 degrees off. That was back in the day of carbs, points, and lots of learning! That was before Holley added a check valve to stop the backfire from blowing the power valve!

Yeah, it seems like it was just thrown away - but there's a lot to be said for using that cheaper first swap to get it all fitted in right, and work out the bugs. The trans isn't a stocker anymore, either, and hasn't been. They learned a lot by stuffing that salvaged setup in, and beating on it for months.

One thing I would invest in is a preluber to pre oil your LS and Ford twin cam motors with pressurized oil before starting the first time as dry start ups cause the most wear !

When i time those things I usually turn the crank over a little so the #1 piston is sitting in the hole a little so nothing hits when trying to time it. You can turn the cams around a little so you can get the chains on.

I put one of those PTI balancers on my Windsor 302 build and it came apart after not too many miles. I think it was an epoxy or something that failed. Luckily the outer wheel stayed on because it hit the crank pulley on that engine and it just spun around the inner. Made a hell of a racket but nothing catastrophic. I stuck the stock one with cracked rubber back on there because I had blown all my money on the build, but I never had a problem with it. Factory one spun to 7 grand no problem. Granted this was like 15 years ago, but figured I'd put that info out there since your pulley is integrated into the balancer on this one and it will be driving your supercharger.

Why not play with 6 rib belts until you find the proper length? Then you'd know what size 10 rib belt to order. 😉

For sure robbing a few ponies and causing high back pressure but it’s not going to overcome the valve springs. Just shove more air and fuel to make more power, forget exhaust flow.. nice problem to have.
