An iPhone 17 Air with a standard and mini size would be perfect. My only advice would be to keep the dual camera setup, as the ultrawide on my 13 mini is extremely useful when taking photographs.

The single camera is the one thing that doesn’t make sense to me. Not when they’re pushing for everyone to start shooting spatial videos for the Vision (Pro), and literally rearranging the cameras on the regular iPhone to make it capable of shooting them.

Let's be honest here spacial videos will always be trash compared to VR180 videos which require two ultrawide cameras. Also their VR headset will never be a thing at that price. It probably that the device is thin and they can't put a nice camera in the phone anyways. Also they need more space in the x y direction for the battery when the device is thin.

It kinda makes sense. They are going to have the same tiers as the ipad has ipad->ipad air->ipad pro 11”/13”; iphone->iphone air->iphone pro/pro max. What doesn’t line up is that the “iphone air” has only one lens while the regular has two and also that there is nothing air about the ipad air, the pro is literally lighter and thinner. So i don’t know what the air branding means at this point.

The simplicity of having one camera, that does the job, but allows for a more comfortable day to day use as the phone will be light, is very appealing, as long as they bring 120 hz and the best chip, I’m in! My current 15pm 1tb is great but I don’t use all the camera features.

I am an eager videographer and hence bought a 15+ which was under my budget , and I can’t tell how glad I am I didn’t go for the base 15 …..the battery on this thing is amazing! I agreed up until the ending price comment. I think apple very well may price this above the pro max if they pull off 5mm thickness. You mentioned the MacBook air’s launch - but its first gen was grossly expensive for what you got. Even look at Vision Pro; design and hardware are apple’s main focus for first gen, then cost cuts that can appeal to the masses come with second gen.

My prediction is that Apple ain't gonna announce any iPhone SE this year (thought they might but won't matter) and next year they will announce this "iPhone Air" as the new iPhone SE. Let's see how this prediction stands. It doesn't make any sense at all for apple to go back from two cameras to one and spacing it any lower than the base iPhone. If, by any stretch, this does get into the iPhone lineup it'll only either be the new replacement for iPhone SE OR the fifth iPhone right next to standard, plus (or mini), Pro and Pro Max. Apple Could add another Ultra into the mix to even out both sides.
