@GraySlicerAnimations
@GraySlicerAnimations 4 жыл бұрын
@Panel A permanent plan definitely is. The old Autodesk perpetual plans were most certainly expensive, but at least you didn't have to pay yearly for it. You could own the discs and activation codes and etc. Even though according to Autodesk you don't have ownership (even with the physical versions), you have a "license." However, this was overruled in a court case years ago. Either way, Autodesk has always been a monopolistic and greedy company, but now they're even worse. Honestly, if you're looking to get into 3d and actually own your software, I'd go for Blender or Cinema 4D. You would have to save up for C4D's perpetual plan, but you would actually own it. Maxon's support is amazing and they are much more accommodating and accessible than Autodesk's. Blender is also a great piece of software as well, on account of the fact it's free and the 2.8x release is straight up revolutionary for the software. Hopefully you can take something away from this long brick of text when it comes to software decisions :D

@@GraySlicerAnimations I love blender for the fact that if you don't like something, you can just go to the dev portal and get involved in the project, make changes and hope your change/feature gets accepted. if it gets rejected anyway you just download the source, modify it and then you build the project for yourself

They already have become greedy, it's called subscriptions. Now every year we pay at least $1800 to keep our license, whereas before we paid once and whenever we wanted an upgrade. I'm sure ILM and WETA are just fine, but small studios are having a harder time. All so that they could guarantee themselves annual revenue.

@@RockAnimations I've been purchasing licenses for Max since 1995 and Maya since 2000. Yes I've been around and when you have to pay for 5 Maya licenses once in 3 to 4 years at $19,000 that's a lot better than having to pay $50,000 in that same 3 to 4 year timeframe. Here's a tip, Autodesk isn't releasing anything all that fantastic between a single version. You're wasting your money. Just read the comment right below yours from Onsokumaru. Between Maya 2016 and 2020, is there anything you can't live without? We had Mash and Bifrost since 2016. You're drinking the Kool-Aid bro.

SSA BOR even children can see the difference in what blender is delivering. I’m a convert from Maya to blender myself. The open source community and the huge strides the software have made in the 2.8 version are rocking the boat for 3D professionals. Especially now that blender has received an Epic Mega Grant, support from Ubisoft (blender is now their go to 3D app), and support from several other big players. This is nothing to scoff at. The rate of feature updates and releases in Maya is surprisingly underwhelming in comparison. Autodesk needs to start taking this competition seriously. Houdini is. I sincerely hope this makes the industry strive for higher quality and accessibility for the prices they charge professionals and consumers alike.

So. This popped up on my KZbin recommendations. I'm a Blender, Cinema 4D and Unreal user, maybe that's why. I say "Oh, hey, Maya is an industry standard. Let's see what they have on their latest version!" Volume control. GPU Preview. Ghosting. Navigation Markers. Color themes. Remeshing. Bifrost (which is cool, but nothing too special) I finish the video, dumbfounded. How is it that a program that only up until its 2020 version gets those features, became the industry standard?! At least 5 different software packages have had those features for years! I mean, come on, sure, if you feel the need to feel rich by throwing money at this, please, by all means, you do you. But I don't think anyone uses Maya because it's really powerful (which it is) or comfortable (which it isn't), but because Autodesk monopolized the market so hard that NOT using it would represent more logistical issues and portability than would be practical to handle. What a nasty way to corner a market.

I agree with this comment from your forums from aaronw28. "Ideally I would love to see more viewport functionality in Maya. As a concept artist, having the ability to realize my designs in real time in Maya's viewport to the degree that you can in Blender would be absolutely indispensable. Currently I have a base file set up with an ideal viewport set up combined with certain materials I know look good in maya... but it just doesn't have the same capabilities as Eevee. The next best thing is Arnold, but the ability to get instant, real time, high quality visuals from my workspace compared to the rendering time it takes for Arnold - it's incomparable. I'll take real time every time. So often I've had tasks that need to be delivered the afternoon, and the set up time for something like Arnold and the response time for something that would be relatively simple or much faster in a real time environment, it would be priceless to have that capability in Maya and so often VP 2.0 just doesn't cut it. And to be clear this isn't an attack on Maya, Arnold or it's viewport. I use it all the time and it's useful - to a point. But having the same realtime capability in a viewport that Eevee provides Blender users would not only save me having to learn new software, it would greatly expand Maya's usefulness for concept artists like me who use Maya in their pipeline. Maya already has tons of pro features Blender can only dream of having. The donut foundation prefer to focus on stupid stuff such as grease pencil and a pbr viewport (cool but not what blender really needs atm) instead of UDIMS, acceptable performance, good UV tools, good retopo tools, rigging tools and good particle tools. Maya already has all of those so there is not much else to improve. You annoying blendlets can't help but to spoil every maya and max comment section, you're such a terrible, dumb and immature fanbase. You think Blender is the best only because you managed to model a donut, but in a real production environnement Blender would bite the dust. There's a reason why you've been quoting the same handful of artists and studios for years: Barely anyone wants to use blender and it's not just because ''people learn autodesk at school so they stick with that''. It's because Max and Maya are reliable and deliver great results. Now back to your donuts and anvils you braindead blender fanatics.

@@phosphorus2740 wow the only reason why studios are not making the switch is because of the cost of employees relearning a new software. And blender is free and does a lot of the stuff other software does and its developing really fast with 2.82 already being out there.
@conahscreations
@conahscreations 4 жыл бұрын
@@phosphorus2740 I think the Blender 2.8 update focused so much on the UI and the gimmicks, as you seem to think of them, because Blender had an issue with user experience, especially for newcomers. With the grease pencil I believe there were already a group of artists who were excited by the 2d-to-3d capabilities, so the grease pencil has greatly improved this avenue for artists. Although the onslaught of blender fans must grate on people it's undeniable how far Blender is coming along - especially considering how it looked and performed only last year. Blender is providing an entry point for budding artists and upcoming technical CG hobbiests - and although the software looks like it is trying to be jack of all trades and master of none, if it carries on developing the way it has been then i'd say it's looking pretty promising. As for Blender on a commercial scale, Blender is being used within new startup development teams. I think it isn't used on a mass-scale because retraining staff would be a huge job for any established development team, as well as having existing, older versions of software like 3ds max 2017 with custom built add-ons, already baked into their pipeline. Personally I'm excited and happy for this new era of 3d and for newcomers to be able to test the waters and gain experience without the worry of high license costs... Just maybe they shouldn't crowd the comment section of the competitions videos and updates.

This is great. Nice new features. Always great for rigging. But shouldn't try really comparing Blender and Maya or Max or C4D. Maya has been great for rigging. I haven't used Maya much since I don't have it in my course but have seen the rigging and some modelling features and it's great. I have been recommended to learn Maya by my teachers for my modelling skills. Coming to Blender or C4D, what I love about these most is their ability to handle simulations/Dynamics very smoothly. One can go with lots of fragments for Ground explosion without crashing whereas in Maya or Max going up to a lot of fragments can crash but then again Max and Maya make up for it with the rest. So all of these softwares are great. Yes there those license part which can be bad.
