CONGRATULATIONS, Laura, you must be so proud. I would like to thank you, for all your tutorials, with watching your videos, I learned to make my very own quilt. from start to finish including a detailed label. I made a Super King sized Friendship Star Blocks with different patterned fabric for the memories my two dearest friends, have shared together. A husband and wife who celebrate their birthdays only 2 weeks apart from each other. I gifted the quilt to them last weekend, they are over the moon with the quilt. What an accomplishment. Congratulations! I could tell you were choked up sharing your excitement when you not only touched your book for the first time (like touching a dream) but also autographed the first book to your mother. As a child, the images of my grandmother making her own patterns by laying us on a piece of newspaper and "taking measurements" will always be fresh in my mind. She hand-stitched quilts that they initially thought were machine-made when she first started entering the county fairs, but after checking they discovered every tiny meticulous thread was stitched by hand. Needless to say, her quilts won every year, but as time went on, she added detailed embroidery work to them and they became works of art. I still have 2 of those lovely quilts, many made with remnants of the dresses, pajamas, aprons, shirts, and other clothes she made us. My hand still traces along the fabrics as they become a time machine back to my youth. She passed her skills on to her daughter, my mom, and my mom passed them to me. I share this because, having come from a long line of savvy women who instilled a belief in one's self, I know how important your mom was to you and I know how thrilling reaching this goal was. A personal achievement, one of many in your life, that you have passed on to others. I only hope you have daughters, granddaughters, and many great-granddaughters to pass on your many strengths to.
