SDRplay Software Defined Radio Receiver

SDRplay Software Defined Radio Receiver

Күн бұрын

This video shows the demo we showed at Hamvention 2022, in Dayton, Ohio.
This demonstrates the core underlying technology behind what we’re calling “SDRconnect”
“SDRconnect” is the new name for the multiplatform version of SDRuno (up till now we called it SDRuno V2)
We demonstrated the completely rewritten Core DSP engine for Spectrum and Waterfall displays - with the prototype software running on a Mac M1 computer. We also show the networking capability by remotely accessing an RSP based in the UK.
This is still an early stage demo, and the software team have a lot to do to complete the graphical user interface.
Work is underway on the new graphical user interface which:
• Retains the style and popular features of SDRuno
• Offers a more consistent and intuitive layout
• Addresses fixes and improvements suggested by users ever since SDRuno was first adopted.
SDRplay plans to release the first version of SDRconnect before the end of 2022.
SDRplay is promising that SDRconnect will fully support the older obsolete RSP2 and RSP2pro products, although the original RSP1 (phased out in 2017) will not be supported by SDRconnect.
(SDRuno V1.42 will continue to be available for RSP1 users).
The new graphical user interface will bring a lot of advantages based on what users have been asking for - like more consistency in the way panels and menus are organised making it more intuitive and easy to use, and the ability to lock panels together.
This is one of many videos from SDRplay - makers of the RSP family of SDR radios. See the full list of SDRplay videos and applications documents on: www.sdrplay.com/apps-catalogue/
The RSP family of SDRs from SDRplay cover 1kHz to 2 GHz with no gaps and give up to 10MHz spectrum visibility.
SDRplay is a UK company. The RSP SDR receivers are made in the UK and can be purchased for worldwide delivery directly from www.sdrplay.com/ (click on purchase and select your country to view shipping costs) or you can buy from any of our worldwide resellers listed here: www.sdrplay.com/distributors/ Many of the resellers offer local free shipping and/or local language technical support.
The SDRplay KZbin Channel is: / sdrplayrsp

Bang up job crew! The entry level M1 paradigm is a warp jump to the next galaxy and it is great to hear the forthcoming SDR software is a total rewrite based on forward looking software and hardware technology. Once upon a time in the late 70’s the x86 approach was a game changer for me as I went from applying “mini computers” to hand built x86 hardware, with hand coded CPU instructions, for scientific R&D applications. The x86 instructions and chip sets were a real enabler for instrumentation automation at this point in technology. That advantage rapidly faded and by the 90’s was a ball and chain as a random accumulation of workarounds grew exponentially to keep the x86 architecture alive. The new on ramp moving forward is M1 (and similar by others) and it is great to see this future proof change occurring. The new release is going to put a lot of fun back into the hobby as it enables a huge shift back to the Ham Radio aspect of the hobby and away from time wasted patching the latest software tech failure (no contest points awarded for being a software bug fixer).

Hi, congratulations on this new version of SDR Uno. Please, please, please, can you give a thought while you are developing the user interface as to how this software can be made accessible to blind hams? There is very little accessible software for using SDR radios and this is a great opportunity to make something that is fully accessible. If the web GUI follows usual web accessibility standards it should be possible to make all the controls accessible. Granted it may be more difficult to make the waterfall accessible, though not impossible, but if we can tune the radio, change modes, and add/subtract filters etc. that would be a great start. Thanks for taking this on board. Mike W4LLJ

Will you retain compatibility with the usb virtual here technology? It is really nice to be able to just put a usb to lan converter near the radio (e.g. ras pi) without having to install any application software. I want to minimise the number of computers I have to manage. Your client server architecture still works, it just means the server can benefit from virtual here. The client can still be on any networked computer including the same one as the server…

Love the concept. I was wondering if I could have a RSP1A connected to my Raspberry Pi 3 server and use a Linux laptop as the client. At the moment I have to connect the RSP1A to my laptop running Fedora 36 and run up a virtual machine of Windows 11 to use the software. Fedora 36 is too new to get SDR++ running.

"due to hardware limitations the RSP1 is not supported" - should be "we are choosing not to support the RSP1". Other SDR packages are managing to do so, at least on Windows, OSX & Linux. Abandoning your RSP1 customers is not the answer nor is telling them "use SDRUno - but we will only do bug fixes". If for some reason you do not think some remote use will not perform with the RSP1 for example then just make it clear remote cannot be used.

@@johndav5230 I like and use Linux all the time. Superior? That is certainly up for debate. What OS supports the most powerful graphics cards and top shelf games? What OS has the most native support from top shelf productivity software (sometimes ported to other platforms with mixed results). What OS allows you to create a custom and upgradeable computer? What OS has the most hardware, peripherals, and driver support?
