I remember in the late 80s there was a loophole in the car import laws and thousands of second hand Japanese cars flooded into Australia. All these cars that were only sold in Japan were available here. They even had whole car yards just for these imports. I remember they had Japan radios in them and you could pick up the Police frequencies on them. The loophole was closed in 1989.

lol at the "loophole" allowing Japan to flood the market.. maybe if the bogan aussie domestic built car brands like ford and holden built competitive cars in the first place to compete with the reliable economical Japanese cars the government wouldn't need to bring in ridiculous protectionist policies in the form of quotas and 80% tariffs on Japanese made cars.

This JDM car was based on the Toyota Auris, another JDM unit. Whilst the Auris was a 1.5L or 1.8L, the Blade had a 4-cyl 2.4L, or as in the case of the Master G, the 3.5L V6. The Auris was known as a hatchback Corolla in some countries. Before the Auris models there were the Allex and Runx almost identical cars sold at the same time in Japan. In the Allex RS180, and the Runx Z Aerotourer both had the the 190HP 2ZZGE engine. ( Corolla Sportivo in other countries were similar) The lesser ones had 1.5L 1NZFE or 1.8L 1ZZFE. Trinidad & Tobago. I have one of these in NZ. We seem to have gotten more than our fair share of these , and they are more common by the sound of it here than australia. And cheaper, you can get a good low km one here for 10k. Its short comings and pluses have been well documented, mainly its tendency to wallow cornering due to the monster under the bonnet. But i think toyota forgot to change the tyre pressure sticker on the door from the 4 cylinder version....another 4 pounds all around and its a far different beast.

Only 1 seconds quicker in 0-100 km/h than the AWD Kluger helps to explain why it was sold as well as it should have. As a matter of fact, even the bigger Aurion Sportive went below 7 seconds. I believe there is an AWD version of the Toyota Blade Master out there.

A friend of mine had a matrix 2.4 5 speed and it never made it past 220,000 kms before the engine blew up because of the sludge issues. My brother had an Alfa 147 GTA with the 3.2 V6 which is a similar kinda car , is lighter than this car , it put out 250bhp, manual , LSD, fwd , but probably better suspension setup than the Blade, it was a beast of a car and gripped the road pretty well, but he sold it because it sounded like a great idea when he bought it but living with it was another matter, it ate front tyres, you had to really concentrate to drive it fast , it drank petrol and was kinda high maintenance, this Blade would probably be better as a daily driver......

@@aspiringaspie3280 yes, exactly, every car has compromises, you can't have an all out race car and a very practical car in the same car, after my brother sold his 147 GTA , he bought a lotus Evora , same(?) V6 3.5 as this car but is a pretty sorted car handling wise, and was manual trans. Where I live these blade masters sell for same price as a cheap runabout so , sure , they aren't sports cars but , for the money, they would be awesome fun.....

Did you just claim that with a different road surface and warmer weather the that the 0-100 km/hour time would drop from 7.1 to 6.5 seconds? Cold air yields *better* engine performance due to higher oxygen density. There was zero wheel spin... so I don't think a different road surface would have a huge effect.

Servicing must be a bitch because there is zero room in the engine bay. Does the car under steer because it’s nose-heavy? As for Lotus, the engine gets strengthened internals reworked intake amongst other things before the supercharger is ‘slapped on’ lol. Remember these engines were never designed to put out almost 450hp in the top Evora spec.

Unsafe, oversized, overpriced resource-raping,fuel wasters that the makers have you believing these shitboxes are what you are demanding. I'm sure many American drivers don't really want these things & would rather drive something of interest & reward. Collectively our fun years are being strangled by the ridiculous EV cancer. If it needs liquid fuel I'm interested.
