Just like when the GTI introduced their dsg, this is going to help to sell more cars. And more cars sold means a longer run of the manual version of this car as well. Every enthusiast car that has only been manual has had a hard time selling, especially within the last decade. The entire ST line at Ford were solid cars but limited themselves to manuals, while great for cred and "real car guy reviews", doesn't keep the lights on for too long.
@mitchellsteindler29 күн бұрын
No it wont. They cant make enough for the demand of only the manual car. Now they will divert some of that production to auto, so those who want manual are still screwed. All theyve done is reallocate away from those who want a manual. Granted, it makes for a much faster track car.

Hearing chief engineers speak is honestly so satisfying. My biggest complaint about the car is going into limp mode, but hearing him say the car should be treated as entry level for Motorsport is refreshing. The car is super easy to drive and gives a lot of confidence, but it’s not meant for an experienced driver pushing the car to its limits. He obviously can’t directly say you should get a different car for intense Motorsport activity, but he was indirectly hinting at it.
@aprtur29 күн бұрын
Possibly indirectly hinting about a GRMN trim, as well - they've been caught testing a GR Corolla on Nurburgring that seems to have additional front end cooling ducts/air outlets, so that leads to think about an even more aggressive trim.

I’ve had my 24 GR Yaris automatic for a couple of months and close to 5kkm. I was super doubtful about the AT, having experience with Toyota’s and Lexus’ sporty automatics from the past, but it truly is fantastic. I’d compare it to a 8hp in BMW’s, speed wise. The gearbox programming in GR Yaris is rather aggressive. It rarely slips on the converter, during steady load it always keeps the revs above 2000 rpm even in Eco mode (about 2500-2800 rpm in sport more). The downshifts are immediate, it can kickdown multiple gears. It’s really impressive in mid range. I’ve noticed it was learning my driving habits for the first 1-2kkm, was occasionally sluggish, but now I can’t fault it. I just wish eco mode was more relaxed for everyday driving. I had my doubts about this gearbox, but it’s fantastic. I don’t think it reduces anything from the driving experience, if anything it helps to utilize massive mid-range surge of the engine. Love it.

@@TassieLorenzo Oh no, I meant the ZF 8hp. I had experience with M340i and in the M2, and the shift speed, response and violence (if you will) is quite similar, if not better in the Yaris. I appreciate Toyota for making this car, so please don't think I am hating on this car. The #1 problem right now is not the car itself but the dealers that sell them. I keep hearing "Base Price Under $40k" No dealer within 200 miles of my home will sell you a GR with a manual for under that price. I walk into a VW dealer and can get a fully loaded Golf R with DSG for $47k and they will work with you. I have been in both cars. Say what you will about VW but the Golf R for around the same price point (realistically) is just the better value. Keep in mind that most likely 95% of these cars on either side will ever see a race track. Most if any may autocross the car but they will never see a race track anyway. The VW rides better, has more options as standard and is just more comfortable to be in and not to mention bone stock will hit 60 in 4 seconds flat. I am leaning towards the Golf for the dealer experience too. VW comes to me and right away will work with you. Toyota and the GR? This is what we are selling it for with our markup if you don't buy it someone else will mentality just really turns me off. That's been my experience thus far. And frankly, you get a lot for the money, 300HP, four doors, AWD, and good brakes. Sure, it can only handle 15 minutes of hot lapping, but that's better than a lot of cars, even "sporty" ones. I own a 24 GRC Premium, and my 2 concerns are the 85 mph corpo side problem and the transfer case cooling problem. It isnt even addressed yet for the cooling side of things, which has been a big talking point of owners and enthusiasts alike since the car came out. Im surprised they barely talked about it at all themselves here. If it's not even reading real current temps, just an assumption, surely they could start there?

40k for this is ridiculous. If subaru can sell you a wrx for low 30s... This is ridiculous. This car will get cancelled soon enough anyway when dealers still mark up this thing and treat it as this monolithic super limited edition car...
@joncaseyclary29 күн бұрын
Except that in its market and price point it’s still an amazing option with the Toyota brand behind it. There’s no dealers sitting on these. Toyota is selling the limited numbers they make as fast as they ship them. If it’s canceled it won’t be from lack of sales based on the 2023/2024 builds.

There are *SO many corners cut* on the Subaru to achieve A low 30s base model! The interior with bargain basement rental car cloth, an engine lifted almost directly from the Subaru Ascent with negligible re-engineering, open front and rear differentials, the feeble Subaru 6-speed manual transmission instead of the Aisin 6-speed that used to come in the STi... When you get to a decently specced model with nice trim, Brembos, Recaros etc like the tS or TR it's mid to high 40's is it not (even though it still has the Subaru gearbox and not the better Aisin manual)?

Few thoughts on this. The gr corolla stands as a hallmark of Toyota deliverying an in house sports option. I think they accomplished what they intended. I do wish they would soup up the gr corolla more and then split a lower fwd lsd option with this motor and actually make it a civic si brawler. Arguably the civic si (forgive me chat but it's for the argument point) is the ideal babys first sports car. It's reliable. Simple. Under 30( (barely) and it has the driving dynamic attention from a team who cares about the driver/car interaction. Swelling to 50k isn't entry level that's almost day 2 or middle of the road. 50k is a mustang gt or a Nissan z. My thoughts anyways I'm grateful to see into 2025 we have some spunky ice cars.
