Dear Pecktec: It’s always a pleasure to see you unbox and showcase terrific products like this, amazing tank. All of my aquaria are low-tech, inexpensive set-ups. I use timers for the lights, but I ensure that either sunlight or room lamps provide some light in the room before the aquarium lights switch on. I don’t want to startle the fish. I don’t have an I-phone, so controlling a high-tech LED like this one would not be possible. I try to give my fish a natural-looking set-up and you’ve encouraged me to include live, aquatic plants when possible. I’m looking forward to seeing you scape this tank. I’m always amazed by the incredible, planted aqua-scapes that you create. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar

I gotta say, this video of your inspired me to buy a Fluval 32.5g. I've got it going with just guppies, amano and dwarf cherry and blue shrimp. Water wisteria went nuts in there because the light is that good. In fact, all the plants I've put in have needed trimming after just one month. Finally bit the bullet and got some monte carlo for the foreground and we'll see how that does. Again, LOVE your videos and I've learned a lot from you. Keep them coming, please!

Lol Love this setup, not a bow front fan because it messes with my eyes as you stated, but I can’t wait until you scape it to see if putting the substrate higher would help my eyes.. Love the sleek look, and my fish love the Fluval light because of the timer and ramping up the light slowly. @OregonOutdoorsChris5 жыл бұрын
With the lighting I really wish companies would get their act together. First off they need to drop the blue for night and switch to reds for proper nocturnal viewing. Then specific to these bluetooth Fluvals, they need to enable arbitrary programming schedules. A split lighting schedule to allow naturally dissolved CO2 to rebound, as well as have the lights on to view the tank in the morning and evening, for those of us who don't work where our tanks are.
@pecktec5 жыл бұрын
Never heard anyone say that about red at night that’s pretty interesting. You can actually do that with these if you want. The light cycle thing could be done too with a second light in this particular one. But I find it make more algae.
@OregonOutdoorsChris5 жыл бұрын
@@pecktec Blue is pretty much the worst possible color to use for nocturnal animals. They're effected by it the same way we are (you know, all that stuff about how blue in our screens at night negatively impacts our sleep and all that, same thing). And all of which is why zoos use red for nocturnal animals. TLDR; It's all about the rods, cones, and how rods interface with the autonomic nervous system, and cones don't.
@OregonOutdoorsChris5 жыл бұрын
@@pecktec and as far as the split cycle goes, there are work arounds, I've heard of schemes where you use an external timer as well to trick it, but when the light has all the equipment built in to do it right, buying extra lights or running extra timers is ridiculous.

That’s a good question. The way it works is you set a schedule on one and export it to the other one. It’s easy and works well.
@TerraMagnus4 жыл бұрын
@@pecktec nice nice. It's good to see tech becoming available for freshwater. I've got a reef tank with the AI Prime HD lights which have something like this, except you can define a tank, add lights to that tank... one light acts as the primary, other lights act as secondary, and they all work in sync on one schedule. But these Fluval lights come in at a better price point (tradeoff is much lower PAR, but it's still good enough for FW plants I imagine).

Hey peck. I have the fluval mega flex, had the tank up for about 2 months now and I cannot keep up with the detritus algae growing over my plants. I think it’s the light, i’m running chemi pure green and i’m not feeding very much, filter is relatively clean typically but i still get massive algae growth. I originally tried light settings similar to the one in the vid, but I thought maybe you had since updated them at all? I really can’t get a handle on this detritus and this is from someone who’s been doing planted tanks since they were 12. Any suggestions even if you didn’t change your light schedule?

If the aquasky light works like the 3.0 fluval lights, when you put them on a timer, or power cycle them, they keep their program, but loose the time of day. So they when plugged in, before connecting to the app, default the time to midnight. So if you wanted say two light cycles a day, with a siesta, you could program your lights coming on right after midnight, then put it on a timer. Everytime the timer turned it on, it would be midnight and start that program.

This tank is listed as being 15.75 inches tall. Is that the maximum height including the hood or just the glass tank itself? I'm going to get this tank in the not so distant future and I want to build a stand for it now. I need to make sure that the height listed isn't just the glass but includes the hood. I'm going to have a hinged wooden door panel that covers the top of it so one of my fat cats can't jump on top of it or squeeze between the hood and the wooden door panel and break the hood. So I want the tank to be a snug fit.
