It's interesting how certain activities could be interpreted differently depending on the location.. Running in the countryside: bloke getting exercise Running in a shopping centre: thief Wearing full camo in the countryside: army-related training Wearing full camo in a town centre: local nutcase Climbing through woodland in rural Wales: camper / rambler Climbing through woodland in Walsall: smack head.

Definitely an idea for you to consider in the future, is getting a safety vest/high visibility vest, especially if you plan to do more of these urban type missions! There has been tests done and the results are that people become very ignorant of you once you're wearing the vest, as they immediately think you're a worker of some sort and go about their business. It won't of course work whilst crossing some farmers land in possible future straight line missions, but as you're going through shop' service areas and climbing on roofs of shopping centers, it might divert everyones attention from you for just a tiny bit at least.

Not to mention the safety aspect of a safety vest. Could be mandatory around a streets and working areas (think quarry) and could save his life
@SaintPhoenixx
@SaintPhoenixx Жыл бұрын
Definitely, high-vis gives you an air of authority as well as it just being common sense health & safety-wise. If you're confident enough, you can get away with things wearing a high-vis that you may not in camo. I work in a warehouse and service yard and if I saw someone in camo stalking across it, I'd report it to security but if a guy walks across in high-vis like he belongs there, I'd think nothing of it and assume he was a workman or worked for one of the surrounding companies and just ignore him.

I love this, it's an exact idea that I've had before. I live on the outskirts of a city in Sweden and untill recently I could walk through a small forest in my backyard and through a bunch of patches of small woods into the huge wild forests of Sweden. But now they have built a couple of new residential areas which makes it impossible to do that anymore. I've found a way that leads me to only cross 2 roads but still makes me sad that we are destroying so much of nature. Keep up the interesting content with creative ideas!

When I've been in 'areas I shouldn't have strictly been in' (and no, I'm not a thief!) I usually go with the 'more is better' option; Hi-viz jacket, hard hat, still camera, clipboard with sheets of paper relating to where I am, and pockets full of pens, tape measures, etc. And walk with the air of authority and 'I'm supposed to be here'. A suit underneath helps to sell it. It's truly astounding how many people will totally ignore you especially if you start taking pictures of drainage channels, making sketches, pretending to be on the phone etc There are nuances to doing this and I must add this isn't something I've done in the last fifteen years or more (and again; I never did anything illegal apart from mild trespassing), but it does work!

It's so lovely to follow this on Google Maps. It really allows you to follow the path from landmark to landmark ... well, "landmark". It's an adventure on a small scale, but an adventure nonetheless. Even the smallest crossroads becomes a defining moment. Every parking lot is a biome in itself. Every stretch of drainage ditch is a dungeon. The McDonald's a mile and a half from where you started is like a well-deserved house of respite after a long trek through wilderness. Every building you pass feels like it has significance. The storytelling is superb here. It really feels like a grand adventure deserving of a multi-chapter saga, despite covering a stretch you could comfortably walk (along conventional routes) in three hours. I'm eagerly awaiting the continuation, already wondering how the mighty obstacle of the railroads underneath the M6 will be overcome. I can see one possible route, but how will he get there from the McDonald's? The suspense is nerve-raking.

Try finding one first, any wonder people just throw stuff on the ground. Around the main roads in towns there are plenty, venture away and its a mission trying to find one at times. Not an excuse for laziness though. The bags of dog shit hanging from trees etc does my nut in, especially in the autumn and winter with no leaves on the trees. Its disgusting where there are loads of dog walkers.

It kind of blows me away how people just throw shit on the ground, maybe its because I was raised with the anti-littering ad campaigns but I don’t think I could ever do that
@TheZauer
@TheZauer 2 жыл бұрын
Littering is a sad but inevitable result of urbanization and the consumer society. My intuition is that streets and roads and such aren't really considered as much a part of your "home" as your immediate living space is, but is just seen as a path from A to B. So there are a lot of people who otherwise keep their houses clean and take out their rubbish but don't give a shit really about street litter so long as the path is walkable. And face it, if you don't care enough for the consequences of it, littering is more convenient than being mindful and waiting for the next bin to show up along the way. Hence: cigarette butts everywhere, plastic bottles and food wrappers along major roads, dogshit bags chucked into the forest from dog-walking paths, beer cans and wine bottles left out in parks after the weekend and of course needles and spoons left at the junkie spots. (To that last one, you can also thank the current state of drug criminalization and stigmatization for creating the need for hard drug users to seek out hidden spots away from prying eyes and cops, and that when you're strung out on heroin you are probably not going to feel the need to clean your sorroundings. Tip: Legal, safe injection sites will reduce this issue) The example I feel the most strongly about, by the way, is the dogshit bags. Any dog owner would be 100% better off just letting their dogs shit directly into the woods than introduce a needless plastic barrier between the elements that aid in decomposition and the organic material that needs decomposing. Poop on the dirt is no big deal, just dig out another layer of dirt to throw on top and let nature do the rest, voila. But the fucking plastic bags? It would take years, decades before the shit finally touches ground!
