Moog, Dave Smith, Tom Oberheim, Roland etc all had the opportunity to re-release their classic retro synths. But none of them wanted to, none of them wanted to go there. They totally misunderstood what alot of people wanted. Thankfully, Behringer saw this opportunity and started designing analog synths based on tried and tested designs. It's a huge bonus that they are affordable too. I think the days of elitist analog synths with artificially inflated prices are gone now. Thank god. I literally had to wait 15 years for this to happen. As an owner of Jupiter 8, prophet 5 etc the market for these types of synths was unsustainable and crazy. I now see myself having a studio of Behringer synths - now doubt this was their game plan.

Niles Peter Clemens Your math confuses me. Ebay made a 40 year old Sequential Pro One available to us for $2000. DSI made a new Pro 2 available to us for $2000. Behringer made a Pro 1 avalable to us for $350. If it were to cost us the same amount “in the end” wouldn’t we have nearly 6 Behringer Pro 1’s?
@gahb43264 жыл бұрын
Yes but behringer is a mass production company, so instead of supporting smaller synth manufacturers you give your money the a huge corporation instead of supporting people that make synth for passion rather than "money". I get it that its nice that they are making them affordable, I cannot buy any of those overpriced synth myself so I get it that its nice to think that I can finally afford multiple of them but still I would still try not buy a behringer product and only do so If its my last resort. Cloning an EMS synthi/Wasp/System55 etc... makes sense for but I think they are putting too much resources in remaking alot of synth that already have clones like the boutique roland series for example that are also affordable Why not create something original too ( Neutron / Deepmind) which in my opinion are the most interesting synth they have
@TheBruteOne4 жыл бұрын
They did! Moog has released a one-to-one rebuild of the original Model D for approx USD 3'800 in 2018. Unfortunately in a limited number. All sold out. Tom Oberheim has released an exact rebuild of his SEM few years ago for approx USD 1'000 plus two extended versions with Midi as well as a Four Voice incl. Keyboard (approx USD 4'200). Again, in a very limited edition. And again, all are sold out, unfortunately. Especially the run for the SEM was such enormous that one should think twice about a re-launch in mass production. One of the best sounding synth of all times! Finally Roland has made a re-creation of the system 100. Nowadays as System 500. I am a proud owner. But they missed to do proper marketing. Therefore you'll find very limited vids on youtube or elsewhere. Even in the modular scene it is not a realy aware of the system 500. But it sounds absolute outstanding!!! But you'r right. Especially Roland had have the potential to re-launch all it famous originals for a reasonable price. They didn't and don't understand the demands of the market and mde the focus on cheap digital clones and consequently lost a lot of potential business/market shares, obviously. The same with Yamaha. I am sure that all over the world musicians are waiting for a honourable successor of the DX7. Hey Yamaha; what's about a desktop module or an Eurorack module of the synth section of the your Montage?!!

Totally agree - it's really frustrating when you WANT to buy stuff, but people WON'T LET YOU. Here we are, listening to a Pro-One that sounds and acts just like the original, with a handful of new features that only improve and do not dissuade the original in any way. Sorry Dave Smith I couldn't give you the money for it, but you wouldn't let me.

I owned an original Pro-One pretty much when it first came out. It had an AMAZING sound and did some very unique things... but it was built like a paper airplane. A very frustrating time in my life came to an end when I dumped it in a really bad trade simply because I couldn't afford to keep getting it fixed. So when I first heard THIS demo I was all in - bought mine as soon as I could and yeah, it's EFFIN amazing. It re-opened a creative lane in my brain all the while leaving the associated bad behavior back in the past. My kudos to Behringer - you nailed this. Thanks for being one of the first companies to understand there are people willing to pay for old-school, stand-alone items that let us turn real knobs and be nowhere near a computer when we do it. MOST importantly, THIS Pro-1 is built a million times better than the original, has MIDI & USB, and - wait for it - costs LESS than what I paid for my Pro-One in 1981. WTF? :-) I NEEDED to take my Pro-One to gigs back in the day. Bought an anvil flight case for it but had to treat it like I was carrying around a china set since every solder joint inside seemed to break if somebody LOOKED at it wrong. I bought THIS Pro-1 to record with, and I find myself taking it to gigs for no other reason except it sounds really really cool and it's fun to play. Had a chance to buy a completely overhauled vintage synth recently, and told the owner "thanks - but Behringer is coming out with theirs soon and I'm saving my money for THAT one." Keep on keeping on!

Back in the 70's and 80's I played keyboard bass and keys and used an Arp to start for the bass, but got one of these new in 81 for 500 bucks. It blew me away with the bass sounds. Best bass synth ever. But sounded great on other stuff as well. I think it nicely sumarized what mono synth technology had gotten to by 81. I don't think anyone ever did it better than sequential circuits did. I used mine for years and loved it. One thing tho, by the 80's digital was coming in and analogue was going out so not a lot more development took place in the analogue world so the Pro 1 sort of summarized an era. And what a great job they did with it!

Love what Behringer is doing, but I can tell you as a current owner of two CS-80’s and many other classic and new synths, that the CS-80 will never have a legitimate copy. There are so many things that contribute to its unique sound and playability, that an effort that way will be in vain. Deckards Dream have a commendable effort, and even with a polyphonic aftertouch keyboard controller such as the Hydrasynth, it simply doesn’t have the magic of the CS-80. Not even close. I think they would be better off spending energy creating an amazing synth of their own styling and design features.

Behringer has been absolutely hitting it out of the park on the synthesizer front for the past 3-4 years now. It's unreal what they're doing. They're putting extraordinary recreations of classic synthesizers within the budget of everyday people like me. People like me who always dreamed of the sounds of all these classic synths yet couldn't afford them. But they're not just recreating classic synthesizers, they're releasing completely original units as well. One thing I think would be interesting to see is Behringer recreate the Moog Taurus. I wanted to grab one when they came out with the Taurus III years ago but couldn't spend $2K+ on one. Perhaps one day!

I've use a lot of Behringer products even going way back to the VAMP2 days, to the U-PHORIA UMC22 interface, and Acoustic DI ADI21. I write and record a lot of commercially licensed music, many instruments including synth (under BMI, INC). Been around since 1984 writing music. Two problems I have is "which" new Behringer synth am I going to buy? I love this one and other new ones all of these analog synth's take my memories "way back". And the other problem I have, is everywhere I look, the new ones are "sold out". I'm really happy that Behringer is doing such a great job.. I can't wait to make a video on one of these.

Does the ext. Input go though the filter, lfo and envelopes just like the oscillators? Because would that make it possible to use (polyphonic)samples, played on a computer with midi keyboard, to replace the oscillators (and still trigger the envelope by connecting the same midi keyboard to the synth but with both oscillators mixed to zero)? Please let me know.

Behringer is doing it like all the great companies do(Apple) dolling out less than they have in store to ride the money train but I’m friggin grateful, this post is cause when they drop the poly synths(Jupiter, oberheim) it’ll change everything in music again

Hi This really informative, but i have few questions abt How we can connect this with my midi controller ? once this gets connected the output recording will be in a Audio track in my DAW right not in the midi instrument track ? and Last if I choose any VST instrument like serum or Native instruments library - this this device can i operate the knob that is in the native instruments library ? please

At first glance, the front panel looks more like the Prophet 5 front panel than the original Pro One did. Love how it sounds. Hoping stacking it on top of the 101 wasn’t deleterious to the 101’s sliders. Does that patchbay render this module semi-modular? The college professor who taught me most of what I learned about Jazz, a piano player named Chris Parker, told me stories about stacking the original Pro One on his Rhodes piano to play bass parts. I hope he sees this video.
