Well done . . . usually try to avoid the talking demos, but in this case, you present a good walkthrough of various settings, how to apply them, etc. Nice that you include the spectral analysis and waveform scope displays. The earlier Pro 1 was created at an earlier time when PC boards and discrete components mixed with integrated devices were much larger, because of manufacturing limitations of the time (I designed many PC boards back then, too many perhaps). Anyway, nicely done.

Great review. Does your Pro-1 also not playing any (Midi) note below C2? It restricts the sound of the Pro-1 and it's not usable for bass sounds. I've opened a ticket at Behringer but they simply don't answer.
@StarskyCarr4 жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s acting the same as my original Sequential Pro-One which doesn’t have MIDI - so the lowest note you can physical play is the C2 with the oscillators set to the lowest octave. If you’re going for really deep subs it might not work (not something I can recall trying tbh). But for normal bass duties it should be fine. They all do this. Hope that’s helpful:)

A comparison to the Repro-1 is where it gets really interesting. There is a clear difference between the Moog Vst-i:s and the original. But in your Repro comparison video, the difference vs the original was much smaller. This makes me wonder if the Behringer Model D is actually a better buy than the Pro-1, for us who look into buying something analogue that soundwize do sound better than what you already have with the VST-i:s. I think this potential market is bigger than people who already have some hardware. Same thing for the Behringer Odyssey vs software...

It’s a bit newer sounding (obviously) the OG is slightly softer in FM. But wow!!

@StarskyCarr4 жыл бұрын
It’s really weird, I get a whine from some but not others and it depends on USB cable and whether I’m using either the laptop or studio Mac. I always use the DIN with the Karp and MS20... sometimes the boutiques are OK, sometimes not!! The Pro-1 is Ok via USB for me while others aren’t!!

There is one issue I'm having with the Pro-1. Using a 76 or 88 note keyboard the Pro-1 won't play anything lower than the C1 note on the keyboard. This happens regardless of the octave chosen in the oscillator settings. For example if you set both oscillators to the second octave you would expect to play the full range of a 76 key controller. Nope. Nothing sounds after the C1 key. This has to be an issue with the midi firmware. As there is no functionality as of yet in the Synth Tool for the Pro-1 it may be something that can be updated in the future.
@StarskyCarr5 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed the same and I think it’s deliberate because the original doesn’t produce sounds below the lowest C on its keyboard.. so the Pro1 replicates the functionality of the original and doesn’t attempt to produce frequencies outside the range the original is capable of. Maybe it gets more difficult (and expensive) to keep the oscillators perfectly tracking pitch outside those frequencies? It doesn’t bother me - as the original can’t do it either, but I guess it could feel a bit odd if everything else you own does.
@thegrumpymuso54185 жыл бұрын

Can you give me a bit of advice
@StarskyCarr2 жыл бұрын
Check if you’re getting MIdI in to your daw. Can you play a soft synth with your controller keyboard. If so you’re getting MiDI. Then take a midi out from your interface and plug that into midi in on the Pro1. Set up a new external midi or external instrument channel (whatever it’s called in FL) set the midi out of that to be the interface or midi out you’re using. Or if you’ve got a keyboard with a 5 pin midi out just plug that to the midi in on the pro1 - just to check it’s working. I always have everything set to MIDI one - so check your MIdI out channel is in one (the pro1 default is 1 - set with the jumper switches on the back).

Can't wait for the side by side comparison.....I had an original back in the early 90s, bought 2nd hand from Dougie's Music in Northwich. This was of course back in the day when you had high street music stores....I really disliked A1 Music in Manchester as I found the staff quite rude and arrogant and although Dougie was a complete shark, he was a likeable guy...Was quite a trek to Northwich though... Anyway, I loved the rawness of the Pro-1, but I was very concerned about the poor build quality and the difficulty in integrating it into my existing midi setup (these were the days before Kenton). Anyway, this new British synth company called Novation released something called a Bass Station, so I then did the worse deal I've ever done; I part-exchanged, yes part-exchanged, the Pro-1 for a brand new Bass Station with Dougie.....I've missed the sound of the Pro-1 ever since and like you, Starsky, have been waiting for ages for Behringer to release this. I even thought that Behringer were going to not be able to sell this due to their legal row with DSI...I even sold one of my ultra rare Macbeth M3X's to make way for this reissue...Finally, mine arrived last Thursday. It's superb and sonically I think it's up there with the Minimoog and Odyssey, though all three have there own character and mojo. Anyway, sorry for the waffle, great review as always and love your enthusiasm and sense of humour too.👍👍👍

@StarskyCarr4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a prophet 5, and anyone with one would tell you how much the new releases don't sound anything like their vintage units, but I think a lot of that is down to very subtle differences in tone (dues to years of degradation). The Sequential Pro-One is essentially a single voice of a Prophet 5, and if you've watched my Pro-1 vs Pro-One video you'll know how close they are. Only the envelopes felt different, so for precise arpeggiated sounds I couldn't always get exactly what I got from the Pro-One. But nothing that would really bother me. So yes, that's a long winded way of saying I'd say they're more or less similar to the Prophet 5.
