Didn't you see the demo? It drove perfectly fine in very slow speed accross an empty and perfectly level movie-set street in a circle which means the route was pre-programmed because no navigation system would drive around the block to end up where it already was (plus I'm not sure that set is actually an official road). Now you might be thinking, that could have been remote controlled - to which I say... yeah, maybe. I mean, the robots were remote controlled.

Per - Uber "Over 90% of the time vehicles have 3 or less occupants." Uber specified "including the driver". For those other 10% or for people who just want a bigger option, the 3, Y, S, X and Cybertruck will be available from the app for taxi service. The same way Uber has premium and Uber X services.

Because that whole demonstration wasn't for the cars but the Tunneling machines and capabilities they can achieve. The car shuttle service inside a crammed tunnel was a stupid idea though and they could've achieved better results by actually building a train and slapping a Tesla logo on it (Investors would have gone nuts like they do with Apple products)

If you think it'll fail, don't invest in it. It's that simple. And Boston Dynamics is like comparing demonstrations of a military drone to an electric helicopter. Not only are they targeting completely different markets, the cost isn't at all comparable. We don't even know when the electric Atlas will actually roll-out but it'll still be in a totally different price class and mostly target commercial applications which is why Hyundai aquired them in 2020.

@@HaleysTusk Now we're talking about the Cybertruck for some reason? Regulations in different countries have affected which cars enter certain markets for decades. This may come as a surprise but Tesla is far bigger than one person and I see dozens of their vehicles on the road here every single day. I have no interest in buying one but I'd say the same for many other manufacturers releasing overpriced EVs with questionable repairability and resale value. If this is just going to turn into anti-Elon talking points then I really have no interest in continuing this. There's plenty of other people you can feed inside that bubble.

Trains require infrastructure which requires knocking down people's houses (Not like we haven't done that for highways though. See the 35W corridor through Minneapolis. We seriously fed over POC with that project.) as its not as if you can just slap a train track along side a road and call it done. I want more light rail but there is serious NIMBY related to that. Europe takes for granted you have the infrastructure for trains that were built generations ago. Most US cities built after the 1950's were designed around cars. The best we can do is increase bus services.

For reference data collected by department of energy put the cost of an Electric buss at $400,000 for 48 passengers if using the school buss configuration, remember that's a estimate of a varity of sellers the average range goes lower and higher. So unless the Shoebuss cost less then 165K your still better off buying a regular electric bus with a driver. Of course a standard electric buss comes with extra features like windows... and clearance.

Hmmm , yeah , nah i dont think id even buy an electric bus with a driver , i have a buddy with a small bus company now being pressured to abandon his reliable diesel buses that have zero issues with range , they are also slightly less than half the price of the equivalent electric units , and by the salesman that sells the battery buses , he was told it will not have the range to do the job ..... so double the price .... half the range . yet the local shire says change or else by date X , this is the sort of mindless net zero crap we now get from stupid politicians and bureaucracy . people may find themselves without a bus service .
