About Japanese name seal/stamp, you can find out more about Hanko from below link:
japanese-name-...
To create your own Japanese name seal (Hanko)!
To buy Hanko, please check the below website:
japanese-name-...
Hanko 判子 is a name stamp/seal which used in Japan widely, such as making contract (e.g. joining a new company, school, apartment, gym etc.), opening bank accounts, getting certificate (marriage, driver’s license, etc. ), writing resume and even used as an acknowledgment of notifications. We even use Hanko for a confirmation for correction when we made misspell on official documents. Therefore, Hanko is a must item if you’re living in Japan! Signature cannot be replaced in most of the cases. Or even you could, it’s an exceptional makeshift for non-Japanese and will bother you to take unnecessary extra time.

英語は上手ですね。 I’m sure you must have put a lot of effort into learning English, and it reminds me of how my mom learned English after coming to America. I’m definitely going to get back to studying Japanese cause I want to go to Japan. Maybe get a hanko too

I'd like to learn Japanese too, but I probably never will. I'm having a hard enough time with Italian. I'd get a hanko if I visited Japan. I know there's machines that can make you one for cheap, but I'd probably try to find an actual maker if I went all the way to Japan. I actually did order one of these though from a maker in Japan, which is actually hard to do considering not many people who make them ship overseas. I got a 12mm titanium mitome-in with my last name vertically in katakana. It's still probably being laser engraved because you're clearly not going to be carving titanium, but I wanted one that would last. I'm just glad it's coming from Japan, although I haven't received it yet, so I hope it turns out well. I'd have used my full name, but Western names are quite long in katakana and don't really fit.

Bonjour and thanks a lot ! A question : sometime the name is ''positive'' (ink in red) sometime it's ''negative'' (white with background in red) is there a rule?
@MarcusCato275
@MarcusCato275 2 жыл бұрын
Negative engraving is popular for artists who use pen names. Positive engraving is normally used for Hanko that will have legal bearing (whether legal matters of minor importance or high ones) on any documents you wish to approve of and is recommended because some institutions and administrative offices stipulate that only positive engraved Hanko are acceptable.

Question, Can you also add a design of some kind on the hanko or is it strictly Katakana and Hiregana?

I don't know if this is a dumb question, but what happens if someone has the same name as you? For example, if your name was "John Smith" and there was already a John Smith where you lived, would your Hanko have to be a different font then the other John Smith? How does that work?
@JapaneseLanguageCulture
@JapaneseLanguageCulture 5 жыл бұрын
That's why there are several different fonts exist, and Hand made Hanko also available. :) Yes, there is a chance that someone has the same Hanko as you, especially Mitome-in or Sanmonban Hanko is higher change.

Why don’t they just sign? It’s much easier and actually hard to fake
@AlottaBoulchit
@AlottaBoulchit 2 жыл бұрын
IIRC when Hanko as we know it now became standard it was during a time when most people were illiterate and couldn't sign signatures. So the stamp was easily adopted into society. Considering now that Japanese society is largely made up of elders they are not only set in their ways but if they had to turn to a signature system their writing wouldn't be stable and could be painful for them. They also have the belief that "signatures are easy to forge."
Why we still need 7 kinds of hanko seals/stamps in Japan! Advice on how to make alphabetic ones
