Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words. Incidentally this is the exact reason why I started this channel. To teach people the stuff I wish I learned. For Free. I work as a television motion graphics artist and producer in Wisconsin- when I went to school for this stuff we didn't learn anything close to what I do on a day to day basis. It was the biggest financial and career mistake of my life. So I decided to teach the basics of all the programs I use so other people can learn for free. I just wish I had more time outside of work to keep working on these. Thanks again- Stanislaw

Brilliant tutorials. I am complete neophyte in Motion. I dived in and used it for about 2 hours using only the built in Help to get some video on a timeline. Your tutorials and clear instructions and examples are very encouraging, what looks like a daunting app is turning out to be a well organized set of panels to get stuff done. I am really excited. Watched your 1st tutorial and am almost done this one. I am blown away by Motion's capabilities and I know that I peeking through a slightly ajar window at this early stage. I am so grateful for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and the time you took to put this together. Thank you very much!

I'm a long time After Effects pro user and I'm using your tuts to familiarize myself with Motion as it's easier to integrate with FCPX than AE is. Thanks for providing these tuts to the universe free of charge. My question is....my preference would be to reveal the text danglers on the top text line and not have them cut off by the mask. What would be the best way to create a similar reveal, stopping at the same Y position, yet not cutting off the danglers of the g and y?
@AVUltra
@AVUltra 6 жыл бұрын
Lee- Thanks for your question. ITs a great one. In this specific example- I'm really using a mask. What I would do in the situation you ask is basically drawn a mask shape to allow for the decenders of the text. so instead of a rectangular shape, draw a new shape to allow for those decenders. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! -Stanislaw Luberda AV-Ultra

Great tutorial, i'm new to Apple Motion and i'm looking for the best way to achieve a project that i have in mind. So what i want to do is re-create part of the title sequence of the "poriot". I love the Art Deco thing with the vanishing lines. I have a train that appears middle left of the screen and moves diagonaly towards the bottom right. I have mamaged to get this looking pretty good using motion path, as it moves it grows. What i want to do is make the train dissapear into the distance. May not be explaining this very well. Do you have a tutorial on how to do this or some advice on how to achieve this?

Really you just need to select keyframes- the record button is an "automatic keyframe" feature that will automatically make keyframes as you change parameters and in my personal experience, gets in the way more than it helps- but if it works for other people- go for it. I don’t se the key frames in the time line. How do I see them
@TheTranq
@TheTranq 4 жыл бұрын
I see there is no way to isolate and see which keyframes are associated with what parameter within a group. Like in After Effects each parameter gets a spot on the timeline if it's given keyframes. Does it get confusing when you start changing a lot of parameters?
@AVUltra
@AVUltra 4 жыл бұрын
You can totally isolate certain parameters. Since this is an intro I didn’t get into the rest of the keyframe view. I will say it’s gotten better over the last couple years but it could still be a lot better.

This is really astounding! Thank you. I have a question. Can I make a clip in Motion with all moving text and shapes, but without a background video as you did in this tutorial. Then, take this clip with its "transparent" background and place it over a video in Final Cut Pro X? If yes, then can the clip be imported into FCPX as a "linked" object, so when a change is made on it in Motion, it is automatically applied in FCPX?
@AVUltra
@AVUltra 6 жыл бұрын
Yep- you sure can. but theres so much more, you can Publish parameters and it becomes basically live link to Motion but INSIDE fcpx. Be sure to check out the other lessons like the lower third or title templates. Hope it helps. -Stanislaw Robert Luberda AV-Ultra

question? What is the workflow like for a music video? can it be done entirely in Motion?
@AVUltra
@AVUltra 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. While it CAN be done I really wouldn't recommend it. Thats not really what Motion is for. Motion is really for effecting or compositing clips, not really editing. What my workflow is- Get a storyboard for your video. Shoot it, edit it in your editing program of choice. If you are using Motion, Id recommend using Final Cut with it. Point is you want to get it so you know all your clips are not going to change at all. Then take the individual clips you are going to effect etc, and work on them one by one. Some shots might be quick, I've had other shots takes days depending on the project. Bring them back into your editing program. Edit them all together.

Leonard- Its totally possible. In fact, to make a scene like that try the following: In generators: place a Grid generator, turn off the BG opacity, and turn on the Graph Paper lines checkbox. change the color and make it a 3D layer, and rotate the grid layer in 3D space. Then to animate it, open the grid back up- and Animate the Offset on the grid. Add blurs and glows till it looks like Rad Racer. :)

At 10:54 you select the text group, then use the rectangular mask tool. This isn't working for me in Motion 5.4. The mask tool is disabled. Am I doing something wrong? Or has masking in this way changed/been disabled in 5.4? Thanks for the videos! Learning a ton from you… for FREE!!! :)

Figured it out! By default, it looks like the groups in Motion 5.4 are "3D Groups" upon which a mask won't work. Ctrl click on the group, and uncheck "3D Group". Now you can apply your mask just like tutorial shows.
