I attended a monolithic workshop in 2010, these structures are amazing. You have to step foot inside one to really understand. It would be very difficult to convince me that these aren't the ABSOLUTE best structure you can build for any given amount of money. Take their course! You will find that the wonderful people at monolithic have spent decades developing this structure, and have tried every method you could conceive. They know the best way, PERIOD.

i had said the same thing about that before. i seriously believe that the creator was at least partially inspired by the, at the time exotic architecture, and decided to use it. they are awesome homes, and i totally want one.

I would like to live in one. They can withstand tornadoes, fires, and earthquakes, plus they don't mold, and can't be eaten by termites...who wouldn't want one?

Question: If the geodesic structure is so sturdy why do you not do the rebars in a geodesic structure before spraying the concrete? Any considerations I am not aware of? Kind thanks for your feedback!

After living in an earthquake area for a year id put money on this type of structure than conventional methods, many buildings in Christchurch I had assumed were strong and safe were actually very weak, and took massive structual damage or some outrighted collapsed.

Hello.. i love in norway. we don thave termites here.. we DO have carpenter ant's how is it protected from that? and i think i need more then 3" of foame. i know i need to use 22,5" of rockwool ti make the minimum insulation code for the roof. and a bit les for the "walls" after the building code's. AND all fome insulation need to be coverd with a minimum of just under 1" of non fmalemebel material from ALL sides. so i think i need to make a 1" concret layer on the outeside as well..

How do I stay updated if you have a project in Malaysia? Besides saving expenses, can it be self-sustaining like an EarthShip? How do I take care of local land utility requirements? What's the cost of building a home fit for a family? Can it have two floors?

aha, ummmm, well thank you for the contribution, I would have taken exactly this as argument for the contrary, i.e. for prefereing the "Buckminster Fuller geodesic polygon" to normal rebars .... so now I feel educated but still confused, sorry :-) by the way Expo 1966/67 had a great geodesic dome as US Pavillon, sheer beauty. oh well, regards from snowy Switzerland

How global is your company? Can you build a home in South East Asia? How would you go about the troubles of financing and getting the local government to wire utilities to the home if let's say, the home is built on land not part of residential areas.

So not in percetages but in dollar figures, approximately how much do these domes cost to build for lets say a large family home ?
@donsjuand14 жыл бұрын
@2010collapse 1) Less heat loss due to less air leaks. (2x construction is full of them) 2) Good luck lighting concrete on fire. 3) Termites don't eat concrete or foam. You answered your own question.

people like me and you who are "do-it-your-selfers" will take note and start building our own homes. Here's an example. Use a leave shredder to grind up discarded styrofoam or "eps" and then mix with concrete to shape to whatever you want. Dig it? Then coat it with water proofing stuff. look it up... duh

at a guess i would say it's because the geodesic shape is polygon and the rebar can be shaped to the actual curvuture of the dome itself making for a better fit.
