Ahmed Ertegun signed them to Atlantic, gave them 2 Martin guitars, and a 100 dollars, cause they were flat broke driving out to LA from Las Vegas in John's VW Bug ! Marks Dad was the famous Red Rodney that played with Bird and Dizzy.. moved to Vegas for the work on the strip"..🎵

With the intense heat in California how do you store these so they don’t warp? That is going to take you some time to research
@TheVinylRecordMission7 ай бұрын
Kind of an old wives tale. I’m not saying records don’t warp in intense heat, however we’ve yet to experience that and we’ve been buying record collections out of Southern California storage units and desert garages for many years. There’s been very few instances where we came across some warped records in a collection but never has an entire collection been warped. There’s always a chance we’ll get a few warped records but if and when we do they are usually really thin flimsy vinyl. At the prices we pay, a few warped records out of thousands is not a deterrent. Great question, Steve

The problem with buying large collections at a decent price is that usually around 90% of the albums are going to end up in my $1 to $5 bins (or the local landfill). Unless you're very lucky, be prepared to put out a lot of cash when buying from a discriminate collector of rock and/or jazz. Those collections of higher end mostly near mint LPs are few and far between.

Hi Randy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. We’re very aware of the situation. One lesson we’ve learned over the course of many years of doing this is we’ve had to humble ourselves incredibly in order to learn a priceless lesson. That lesson is no matter how much we think we know, we’re always reminded of how much we don’t know when we dig through acquisitions such as these. We haven’t lost money buying a record collection in 20 years. We’re very savvy when it comes to pricing. There’s soooo much more to collecting records than Zeppelin, Floyd, Dead Heads etc. We’re not afraid to work hard and dig deep. I’ve learned so much about music, super rare uncommon artists and acquired some of my rarest records digging through heaping piles of what many would run away from. We appreciate your thoughts. Anyone who’s ever been successful in this business knows when to lowball which is actually not lowballing at all. When you know it’s not a mound of solid gold you don’t offer gold prices. Occasionally we take a gamble. I’ve bought entire collections and gave the seller thousands because I knew there were records in the collection to justify that value. I’ve never met anyone who paid full retail for collections as large as these. Kings! We’ll take it. 😁. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.

I greatly appreciate your opinions and I’m glad we can civilly discuss the topic. Peace brother. Steve

Depends on where you live and what your tastes in music are. In small towns, I typically find old country music, watered-down pop, and religious garbage. So you spend countless hours going through junk to discover a few pearls. If that's your idea of 'fun', go for it. Many times the cover art is far superior to the music inside.

I find things I like just by going through stacks like this. I realized a few years ago that owning thousands of records means you're never going to listen to them all. If you do the math and assume you listen to on average two albums a day, it takes yrs and yrs to work through a big collection. Most folks are not doing that; they listen to and rotate favorites. Hi Mike. We been doing this for 20+ years. We never pay too much only too little 😂. Early on when I first started buying big collections I over paid a few times. I quickly learned my lesson and taught Ryan how to avoid the mistakes I made. We’re into these collections so cheaply they might as well have been given to us for free. Did you see the Thousand Dollar 45 I pulled out of there last Monday April 15th? I also pulled over $400.00 worth of other 45s in that same dig. We’ve got thousands more 45s to go through. I only went through 150 45s so far. See you on the next dig. Take care. Steve

@@TheVinylRecordMission Did not see the other video, but when you buy in bulk and pay 'peanuts' per vinyl you tend to make a profit most of the time.

@@miketomlin6040 That’s all we know how to do. It took years of self funded education (if you know what mean) but it paid off.

How the hell are the viewers supposed to participate in this dig when you speed through the boxes at 100x speed. It's like watching 20 minutes of blur....

You’re absolutely right. Our apologies. Moving forward I’m going to slow it down for the viewers. Thank you so much for expressing your feelings to us. Take care. Steve and Ryan
