So far.. I like all of the records in box #1 that you put off to the side. Did you take that Batdorf & Rodney ? I grew up with these guys in Vegas. Ahmed Ertegun signed them to Atlantic, gave them 2 Martin guitars, and a 100 dollars, cause they were flat broke driving out to LA from Las Vegas in John's VW Bug ! Marks Dad was the famous Red Rodney that played with Bird and Dizzy.. moved to Vegas for the work on the strip"..🎵

Yeah.. Mark went to my high school Valley HS. He is such an outstanding 2nd guitarist for John's nice songs. They recorded their debut at Muscle Shoals, and predated America's big impact( debut ) by a few months ! CSN is really the originators of that acoustic folk rock, though..

With the intense heat in California how do you store these so they don’t warp? That is going to take you some time to research
@TheVinylRecordMission
@TheVinylRecordMission 7 ай бұрын
Kind of an old wives tale. I’m not saying records don’t warp in intense heat, however we’ve yet to experience that and we’ve been buying record collections out of Southern California storage units and desert garages for many years. There’s been very few instances where we came across some warped records in a collection but never has an entire collection been warped. There’s always a chance we’ll get a few warped records but if and when we do they are usually really thin flimsy vinyl. At the prices we pay, a few warped records out of thousands is not a deterrent. Great question, Steve

The problem with buying large collections at a decent price is that usually around 90% of the albums are going to end up in my $1 to $5 bins (or the local landfill). Unless you're very lucky, be prepared to put out a lot of cash when buying from a discriminate collector of rock and/or jazz. Those collections of higher end mostly near mint LPs are few and far between.

Hi Randy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. We’re very aware of the situation. One lesson we’ve learned over the course of many years of doing this is we’ve had to humble ourselves incredibly in order to learn a priceless lesson. That lesson is no matter how much we think we know, we’re always reminded of how much we don’t know when we dig through acquisitions such as these. We haven’t lost money buying a record collection in 20 years. We’re very savvy when it comes to pricing. There’s soooo much more to collecting records than Zeppelin, Floyd, Dead Heads etc. We’re not afraid to work hard and dig deep. I’ve learned so much about music, super rare uncommon artists and acquired some of my rarest records digging through heaping piles of what many would run away from. We appreciate your thoughts. Anyone who’s ever been successful in this business knows when to lowball which is actually not lowballing at all. When you know it’s not a mound of solid gold you don’t offer gold prices. Occasionally we take a gamble. I’ve bought entire collections and gave the seller thousands because I knew there were records in the collection to justify that value. I’ve never met anyone who paid full retail for collections as large as these. Kings! We’ll take it. 😁. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care.

@@TheVinylRecordMission I'm happy for you I've done it myself I'm also a real collector not a flipper only. I won't lie I like cheap finds myself and am envious of the those that get leads imo mostly record store owners first. I find the business to be similar to used car salesman 😉 ie dishonesty. Lots if blow hard record store owners claim they pay 25 to 50 percent retail but in reality it's pennies on the dollar. Why do I care? I put in my will under no circumstances should my 100k collection be picked through by a reseller like you🤣🤣🤔😉. Give it Goodwill first that way you have to pay at least $2 A record for crap records 😉

@marklazarewicz1646 Hahaha. I need to put that in my will. “Under no circumstances let anyone like me or Ryan pick through my collection” 🤣. It’s a tough racket. I’ve spent many years and a lot of lost dollars on my record knowledge education. I over paid for garbage in my early overzealous years. I learned more about what not to buy than what to buy. There is a certain margin we all have to work within and that includes a huge margin for error. We have much in common, Mark. I greatly appreciate your opinions and I’m glad we can civilly discuss the topic. Peace brother. Steve

Depends on where you live and what your tastes in music are. In small towns, I typically find old country music, watered-down pop, and religious garbage. So you spend countless hours going through junk to discover a few pearls. If that's your idea of 'fun', go for it. Many times the cover art is far superior to the music inside.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Every word you said is 100% spot on correct 👍🏽. I understand from where you’re coming. We really enjoy what we do, we always have. Fortunately for Ryan and I we have the financial means, time, necessary mindset and passion for this kind of ‘fun’. Over the years we’ve both built what to us are amazing personal collections and we’ve done it many pearls at a time as well as a few pearls at a time. Take care. Steve and Ryan

@@TheVinylRecordMission Totally a mindset and I really dig what you guys do! Just for me, it is too much of a time wh*re and the constant disappointment of local music tastes. However, anytime I go somewhere and there's a bin/stack of records, I go through them all....lol. Maybe the definition of 'insanity'. I have found many pearls but weighed against the time involved..........🙄

@@TheVinylRecordMission You're keeping a lot more than I would have....lol. This is tough...I'm not really looking for anything in particular. I find things I like just by going through stacks like this. I realized a few years ago that owning thousands of records means you're never going to listen to them all. If you do the math and assume you listen to on average two albums a day, it takes yrs and yrs to work through a big collection. Most folks are not doing that; they listen to and rotate favorites. It's not really tenable, but I do it anyway.....madness.

Hello Master! So far so good! We’ve had 7 digs and seen thousands of records and only 1 or 2 records have been warped. More than likely they were warped before we bought them. Thanks for checking us out! You should have a look at our other videos and see the great records we’re pulling out of there. Take care! Steve

Most of these look like what we call dollar records, hopefully you did not pay much if the other boxes are much the same.

Hi Mike. We been doing this for 20+ years. We never pay too much only too little 😂. Early on when I first started buying big collections I over paid a few times. I quickly learned my lesson and taught Ryan how to avoid the mistakes I made. We’re into these collections so cheaply they might as well have been given to us for free. Did you see the Thousand Dollar 45 I pulled out of there last Monday April 15th? I also pulled over $400.00 worth of other 45s in that same dig. We’ve got thousands more 45s to go through. I only went through 150 45s so far. See you on the next dig. Take care. Steve

How the hell are the viewers supposed to participate in this dig when you speed through the boxes at 100x speed. It's like watching 20 minutes of blur....
