Hey, Hedley! I was so happy to find those 2 New Grass Revival albums in such beautiful condition! The vinyl is pristine on both records. Hi Andy! I love rummaging through things. I got the bug from my Grandmother. She used to take with her to rummage sales when I was 8 years old. I remember her digging through boxes of other people’s things and always finding something she wanted. She couldn’t afford to buy new nice things so she was happy to buy someone else’s nice used things. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers from New Mexico.

Your advice to the lad on Ray Charles record was spot on. I was in an antique store and they had Two trashed Beatles records for $80 each. I wouldn’t have taken them for free.
@TheVinylRecordMission27 күн бұрын
Thanks, Greg! Most of the records I flipped through had been way over priced. Those same records were there in May. I picked a few good ones from my last trip. Guess they haven’t gotten anything new since I was there last. My last trip I told the owner what I was willing to pay and then showed her on her cellphone eBay why she was asking way too much for the records. She was actually grateful and gave me very prices. I tried to do the same thing at an antique store where I scored those killer $1.00 records last year up here in Taos. The owner got so offended and spoke to me so rudely that I gave him a piece of my mind. Then he kicked me out of his store 😆😂. Luckily the day before he sold me 25 records for a $1.00 each and they were all worth at least a minimum of $25.00 each and as high as $100! First place I’ve ever been kicked out of for not being a sucker. He wanted to charge me $125.00 (Mint OG) for a $20.00 reissue.

Hi Gallo. You’re absolutely right. Those records have been expensive since 2012. Everyone want Los Tigres Del Norte, Los Angeles Negros, Los Bukis and don’t forget Chalino Sanchez. Rarely do I take anything home anymore. I picked up a copy of FREEDOM 2 LP comp for $1.50. Everything else is throw-aways at any price. One store is 3/1.00 and believe me when I say they've sat there for a few years including a Roxy Music LP I've donated which I should get back at that price.
@TheVinylRecordMission27 күн бұрын
Hi Henry. I agree it slim pickings at most thrift shops. Inventory is rarely refreshed and when it is it’s the same garbage they always get. Sometimes I get lucky in rural places like NM and shops like Jay’s Unique. I always find something decent here. Three years ago at this very thrift store I found a MINT Herbie Nichols Mosaic Box Set The Complete Blue Note Recordings for $20.00. It’s a $200.00 record in that condition. Good luck out there friend. ✌🏽

It was kind of interesting on what some of the collectible records were like Year of The cat, a record I love but not the most collectible. They really had a large selection of records and your were grabbing quite a few. I figured by now you owned every album Steve.
@TheVinylRecordMission26 күн бұрын
Do you know any pizza lovers who can restrain themselves to only one slice, Steve? 🤣 I buy records for three reasons, to keep, to sell and to give away. Remember I grab and build a stack and thoroughly check them for condition after I’m done digging. You’re right I pulled quite a few but in the end I only bought 6 records. I always put records back after asking myself, “Do I really need this record?” 😂 Thrift stores aren’t record collectors. Non record collectors think all the popular records are the most collectible. In some ways they are correct. Nostalgia impulsive vacationers are who most of them are targeting. It’s the rare and truly collectible records thrift stores and antique mall dealers often overlook as “Collectible”

I just love seeing these thrift flip videos although it pains me to see lots of records you'd never see here in the UK. The fact you can still grab many cheap under the radar things in the US compared to looking through the same old obvious records here in the UK, for example your Toquinho & Vinicius purchase. Was the Los Tigres Del Norte LP too rough to pick up? I see it has a Discogs price around $20+ and I'm guessing it was cheap? The other that got my spidey senses tingling was Genesis A New Beginning....I would have definitely took a punt on that. Someone has it listed on Discogs for $220 but it looks like they're very much trying their luck as it hasn't sold before and I can't see a listing on Popsike. Great stuff mate... cheers Nige
@TheVinylRecordMission27 күн бұрын
Hi Nige! I pass on so many good records in these flip videos. Reason being I either have them already of it’s just not to my taste. I about cried when I pulled the Tigres record out of the sleeve. The condition of the vinyl so far south it wasn’t worth a single Peso 😂 Being Latino I’ve been well raised on Norteño, Corridors, Rancheras, Banda, Rock en Español etc. You name it I’ve probably danced to it with my Tias (Aunts) before 😂 The Toquinho & Vinicius record is outstanding, so beautiful! I can’t seem to find the Genesis In The Beginning record in the video. Would you mind sending me the time marker please? Thank you, Nige! Always great to chat with you, buddy! ✌🏽

The Genesis is at the 18.33 mark, you took a good look at it. Like I say potentially not big money, certainly not $220 value but worth further investigation perhaps. Haha, nice one Steve...shame about the condition. I haven't got much knowledge in that South American area but some of those sleeves certainly look the biz. Cheers Nige
