I got some records back in the '80s at garage sales that had paper sleeves that were lined with the polyvinyl inner sleeve and they would off gas on the records and even stick to the vinyl record surface. I got rid of those years ago Thanks for the info.
@TheVinylRecordMission3 сағат бұрын
My pleasure, Ron. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. So many viewers have shared their experiences with offgassing. Strangely enough, they don’t all involve the obvious heavy PVC outer sleeves and or inner sleeves made from PVC. Offgassing seems to be a very elusive occurrence. There are so many different sleeve types out there that it’s very difficult to know which ones contain even trace amounts of PVC that could cause the chemical reaction. As I’m going through my collection, I continue to find sleeves that look suspect so to air on the side of caution I’m changing them out to HDPE inner sleeves and polypropylene outer sleeves. Got to protect those records. Thanks for watching. Take care. Steve

@@birdy1numnum Birdy1, Even when there are no rules there is always respect. I’ve seen awful things happen at Estate Sales and yard sales because some individuals don’t know how to respect other people’s belongings. My metaphor was meant to imply that when another person intentionally tries to take something that doesn’t belong to them and the argues with the person it belongs to there is always a confrontation. Your question seems slightly antagonistic. Just giving you my honest opinion. No hard feelings of course.

I loved this and found it quite fascinating. I have to say that I admire your tenacity and patience..i'm afraid I was born on the opposite side when the big guy upstairs was dishing out those attributes.. I'm not sure here in the UK we have Estate sales quite like those you have described here. We have car boot sales, essentially loaded cars selling their stuff in a large open field somewhere..these places are full of ebay flippers and dealers, so they're all desperate to get as much as possible for very little cash, which essentialy makes it a smash n grab free for all as soon as you pull up...I used to do them when my son was little because he always had clothes and toys he was growing out of and money was fairly short so we couldn't just give them away. To be honest, I hated the getting up at stupid o'clock and then fighting and haggling with people all for a few pounds and pence..not my jam at all!!. I thought the story of you co operating with the other guy in the estate sale line to buy the collection was pure genius and a very entertaining story. Glad you found some grails, for me..I'll continue the hunt at record fairs and independent shops..it costs me more, but it's a less arduous and certainly a more pleasurable experience than what you've described here.

Hi Robison. It’s tough out there. Those same type of people, flippers, ebayers and dealers are very aggressive types. I understand not wanting to be around them. I tried to avoid them by being first and getting in and out quick so I didn’t have to deal with the chaos. Thanks for sharing your experiences and listening to mine. Cheers, Buddy. Steve

Wow man, I’ve never heard someone else talk about these things. You are spot on 1,000%. I have some stories of frantic crate digging and shelf sifting next to viciously competitive collectors and I have learned you have to make friends with them if you can you can’t just let it be this shoulder bumping grabbing things in front of peoples faces swiping things race, with passive aggressive comments being made indirectly and shit like that, it’s so ugly. People matter most, not the music, the music matters because people matter, meaning if there were no other people in the world before or after you and you were all alone music wouldn’t matter it would have never mattered or existed, and we can’t take any of it where we’re going. Its all about the adventure and the quest itself, and the best way to make that the best is by uniting and making allies out of people, and at the least being the one who was willing to be nice, and letting the others sit in their negative mental wavelength if they must, but I will say that when they say ‘a soft answer turneth away wrath’ they are right, there have been several occurrences where someone who thought I was going to be as mean as them saw that I was willing to ask them questions and the main thing is when you offer them something, whether it’s an actual record or the prospect of trading anything at the end or looking out for things for them and asking them to look out for things for you and the main main thing is that you should know what eqchother are looking for, that should be brought up in light conversation while you’re going or before you start, because if you find you’re both seeking the same exact thing it doesn’t have to be automatically bad, if you show them that you are someone who can laugh at that instead of becoming cagey and irritable they will see that, and usually reciprocate your approach. You can make it known it sucks, but I call it gallows humor when you’re laughing at your pain, because you’re both like shit, but in the end hey, people matter more, I’d rather make a friend and get less records than get more records and not make a friend and potentially make an enemy. I would never allow a situation to be created where there were common people I knew who knew me who hated seeing each other at sales, no, you have to make that peaceful somehow. I really like your Guns N’ Roses thing that’s pretty cool but I have a question for you. I’m a huge Ramones fan and over the time I have acquired a lot of the vinyl records and I was wondering I’m in the market trying to find out the Ramones last two studio albums, which I called Amanda bizarro and adios amigos but they’re not here in the United States there overseas and I don’t know what to do. Should I order them from overseas? What would you do if you were me?
@TheVinylRecordMission3 күн бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Joshua. I do really dig my Guns N’ Roses appetite for destruction, locked and loaded box set. As for the rare Ramones records go. It just depends on how bad you want them and how much expendable cash you have. They are not cheap Records. There is always a chance that something will go wrong shipping packages from overseas. I can only make the following recommendations. If you decide to move forward with purchasing from a seller that is out of the country. As a buyer, you would have the most protection if you could find a seller on eBay. Make sure they have hundreds of feedback and are 100%. If they have 99.9 or 99% positive feedback go into the feedback and read the comments that caused their feedback reading to be less than 100%. Sometimes you can tell that it was the buyer who was unreasonable and nothing that the seller did. eBay offers great buyer protection from fraudulent sellers or an unsatisfactory purchase. If you buy through discogs that’s a whole other story. I’ve never had a dispute with discogs sellers but that doesn’t mean there aren’t bad sellers on discogs. The only way I would buy an expensive record overseas from a discogs seller is if they had 500+ positive feedback and no negative feedback. And even then, I’d still be a little nervous if I was spending over $200.00. While I’m not suggesting that you purchased these records from overseas if that is your only option, just be sure to do your due diligence and check out the seller thoroughly. Good luck. Thanks for watching.✌🏽
