A good mix there sir. Love to watch videos of collectors with such an eclectic taste. Opeth are swedish btw, a great band indeed. About therapy, no need for that. You are buying art that you can sit and listen to with the utmost enjoyment. I am the same, buying music incessantly,but I always tell myself that as long as I pay my bills, have a roof on my head and food on my table, there is no problem with buying so much music. At the end of the day, it fills me with joy and fulfilment, and keeps away from spending money on unnecessary things. Furthermore, we only live once, so why not keep up with our musical journey? Thanks for your posted videos and keep on buying and sharing.
@davidatkinson-Music-and-More7 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment. And also for reminding me (and viewers) that Opeth are from Sweden, and not Poland. I mixed them up with the Polish band Riverside, who came along around the same time with music in a similar vein. I think we're on the same page regarding buying music on a continual basis. There's so much to discover, even after all these years. Like you say, as long as the bills are paid, why not spend money on music?!

I know exactly where you're coming from, as I'm exactly the same with books. I really need to get through this box full I have here, as well as all the vinyl I have to listen to, though I am a little better at getting rid of books as there's an independent book store here that gives you money off when you bring your second hand books in for them to re sell. But it's just finding the time for it all. I do like the look of the stuff there that you have and such a wide variety. I'm currently on a bit of a Tony Bennett binge with my listening right now..

I culled late 90s a section of my mostly 90s albums but kept a majority of them. Of course I regret it as most I'll never find or be able to afford now. I'd settle for CDs tbh. I have too many records now. I've done videos for a decade and realise how much I've bought from what is behind me in those videos as they've grown with more and more expedits higher up to the ceiling. I have sold alot too I do occasionally sell at fairs but often end up trading at them before all the regular customers come in. That's a nice attic room (?) you have there.

Yes I can Overbuy so what, I work hard its not all the time and sometimes I go oops. I probably would not have enough time in this world to listen to everything i own before I snuff it , which I suppose is a reality check but I love the hunt, the holding the feel good buzz so so what. Another factor touch wood is losing my hearing through old age I am approaching 60 so I want to enjoy my passion while I can . I'm the same with CD's. Five for a Quid at the charity shop. What's not to like. Sure there's some that turn out to be rubbish, but some turn out to be gems. Often struggle to comprehend how collectors such as yourself can keeps tabs on what you have. I'm thinking of going to my local record fair (Leamington Spa) on Saturday to pick up 20 albums so I finally reach 1000. Although they are stored in Alphabetical order (of course) I do tend to forget whats in the boxes however I love those moments where I'm perhaps watching a film or have some background radio on and there's that Eureka moment when I recall - hang on, I've got that in my collection. As a 69 year old (Geordie) I find nostalgia is the biggest driver in my listening habits so for example if I go all the way back to Album 1, Disraeli Gears by Cream I'm back in Ashington. My current thought process is that once my magic 1000 is reached, will it be time to start to offload some stuff? Needless to say my kids aren't looking forward to that part of the inheritance😄
@davidatkinson-Music-and-More7 ай бұрын
You know, Peter, you've just alerted me to a record fair just 45 minutes down the road from here. The good news for me is that Friday night I'm playing taxi driver to my youngest and a couple of her friends on a trip to Wembley to see Taylor Swift. Fortunately, I'll be loitering outside throughout, but it means I'll be too knackered to get up for Leamington Spa on Saturday morning! On my offspring inheriting my vinyl and CD library, it'll probably be their worst nightmare. 😊

Hey! I can relate to this video. Not only do I share your wide taste in music, but I also have records piling up to be featured in future videos, before being allowed to be filed on in my shelves. Hi Hedley, It's so good to know I'm not the only one whose spending occasionally runs away with itself. I think some of us are blighted by too much space, too much time, and too much spare change....well, that's if you think that vinyl buying is a *negative* thing. I recently mentioned to Brian, the @embryonicrobot that the current number of LPs to own is N+1, with 'N' being the number currently owned. What's not to like about that?!

Good to know there's another sympathetic Bread listener out there, Nick. I only started listening to them in the last ten years, and even though I'd never consider them a favourite, you have to admire the quality. What they did, they did extremely well.

This is quite the haul! I don't think you need help, just more encouragement! I really like Gavin Bryars; he's really intriguing. Eno! Excellent. These seem like awesome prices and some really great records.
@davidatkinson-Music-and-More7 ай бұрын
I've come to realise that the correct number of LPs to own is N+1, where N represents the number of LPs currently owned. 😅 Yes, that Eno album is top-drawer. As recognised by many in our community, it comes to life on vinyl in a way that CD can't quite match. And I only wish I could find a vinyl version of Bryars' 'Jesus Blood'. Now that's a haunting album. This one I've just acquired ('After the Requiem') is lovely, and actually gifted to me by a well-known online retailer after both the first and second delivery was of a album with a defective sleeve. I'll settle for that.

I have a Richard Wright album called Broken China that came out sometime in the '90s. I haven't listened to it probably since that time for whatever reason. I picked up a copy of that Triffids album at a record show a few months ago for $5. The sleeve is beat but the record cleaned up nicely thankfully. Great deal on that live Neil Young album! I have Viva Hate but on compact disc. That Lenny Kravitz looks great! I remember Neneh Cherry from my club days a million years ago. And along comes Bread...that was a surprise. I must admit I have a greatest hits album. I am about to have a "buying frenzy" this Sunday as I am off to a record show. Hi HP, these early bootleg-killing releases are all pretty much of a muchness, but they're all good. I don't think Massey Hall has been a particular standout for me, so you can more or less give any of them a go. Good news is that they're mostly going quite cheap, as new.

No, I think these are very stable. Even if the dowels failed in one section (and they haven't yet) the collapse would only be a couple of inches onto the block of vinyl below. I sure wish my room had the headroom to orientate them the other way though.

Greetings David. I can recommend a cure for ending compulsive vinyl purchasing. It involves a form of exorcism! There is a switch in your frontal lobe that must be turned down to low impulse. It involves the wearing of head band. Sound extreme...you bet! Ha ha! Life is short. We all have something that 'turns our crank ' Buying and enjoying music in any format is good for the soul. Be happy!

Thanks John. I watched your video (and a couple of others) this morning, and find your views well-considered. I think, for me, it's become the building less of a 'collection', and more of a 'library', where I can pick music from the shelves without having to stream or watch music on KZbin. Just recently, someone on YT was praising The Jesus and Mary Chain, and even though I have several CDs I'd not listened to them in ages. It was nice to grab a pile and play them one after another. Sure, I could have streamed them, but there's something about having the physical product in my hands.
