yeah, for me there's the feeling of rejection at not being invited, of course. but largely a control issue as well. I want to be the one to decide if I go or not. No invite means the decision was made for me by people I considered friends or hoped to have as friends eventually.

Bruh this is me. In school my friend group was of 4 girls (me included) and 2 were VERY extroverted and the other 1 was.. idk she may or may not be extroverted. Anyways so one of those VERY extroverted girls (K) was my benchmate and considered me as her good friend so always wanted to talk to me or often wanted to hangout with just me. Which ofc I knew I couldn't handle so I always tried to get the other 2 girls along with us. It always made things more fun. If K were to hangout with just me it would be SO boring im really bad at holding convos, specially with such extroverted and outgoing people.

Sometimes other are not able to grasp the concept that people can be fine and happy even if alone. I understand calling every now and then, but people think we must be feeling miserable (which.. no we're not lol for the most part) so they start calling too often or try to approach you to talk (when in real life). I, as a social anxiety filled introvert, am glad that quarantine happened so I don’t have to go out looking for a place to work and doing interviews and talking to people. Here's why I like the quarantine: no parties, no awkward family get togethers, no uncomfortable hugging or touching people. I get to back up when people come close to me and cut conversations short so I don't ever have to "be a good listener". I get to stay home and do my hobbies. I have a good feeling about myself b/c I am being less wasteful and more protective of the environment.

This is so relatable. Like of course the pandemic is terrible. Buuuuut that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the forced distancing, the lack of large group get togethers, being forced to not get close in grocery stores, and having great excuses to avoid people. I hate being invited as well. Making up excuses is exhausting. I prefer being direct but then I have to deal with being called rude or interrogated. And if I'm honest even about the reason that "I'm an introvert", they hear "I'm depressed" so then there are attempts to "fix" me. 😑

I've developed a strategy for getting out of things. As soon as I meet someone (who's going to want to invite me to things in the future), I always turn all of their invitations in the beginning, even if I would actually want to go. That way I establish immediately that I don't always or even usually want to go do something with you. It sets a standard where if there's some pointless extroverts get-together, they won't even bother trying to invite me. If it's something more meaningful, they will invite me, and I'd be more likely to actually be willing to go. The only potential problem is that it does occasionally make you miss something you would have wanted to go to, but that doesn't really bother me. Staying at home is never a bad thing. It also solves the problem of "hurting the person's feelings", as you don't have to break character to reject the invitation. The person doesn't know you, therefore if you establish that aspect of your character from the beginning, it can't hurt their feelings. Besides, it comes with the added benefit of being able to simulate opening up to someone without actually doing so. It can help cut down on the annoying comments of: "Why are you so secretive?" or "Why don't you just open up?"

Somehow they still don't get it after years of friendship. Probably because until a few years ago, I was made to wrongly believe that putting people at ease with my introversion is my job. That has set the wrong benchmarks.

Me. My dad isn’t a problem because he’s also introverted, but my sister is *extremely* extroverted. She likes to burst into my room and insist I hang with her. This is from an older introvert (mid-30s): Only younger introverts like to be invited even if they won't go because younger people need the company of their peers for various reasons. The older you get, the more you really - like for real really - don't want to be invited at all except by your closest friends who already know how many times they can invite you in a year. Some introverts can only be invited once a year, some twice, some maybe as often as every three months. The older you get the more independent you become, which is why they usually say older people are more introverted.
