Agreed Sootch, That bag is great. One thing I would have in the bag and in my wallet is a card containing this: Officer, If I have given you this card, it is because in fear for my life it has been necessary to take action to defend myself. I am willing to sign a criminal complaint against the attacker. I will also point out witnesses and evidence. This is a stressful and traumatic experience for me. Therefore I wish to make no further statements until I have spoken with my attorney, I also do not consent to any searches. I will cooperate fully once I have consulted with my attorney. As a lawfully armed citizen, I ask you for the same courtesy that you would show a fellow officer who has been involved in a similar situation. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

6236003 This is not true. Yes, it is a crime scene, but the search can only be conducted to make it 'safe' - then investigators need to apply for a warrant before continuing. Self-defense does not eliminate your and your families 4th Amendment protections.

A great idea....if you want to imply that the shooting was premeditated. You can tell them those things just as easily and you won't come across as having been LOOKING FORWARD to shooting an intruder.

I keep my truck key with the keyless entry fob on my nightstand, as well as defensive items. If I were to hear an unexpected sound during the night, I can press the panic button on the remote to sound the trucks horn. This most likely, hopefully, will cause a possible intruder to flee, and stop an avoidable confrontation.

I went outside the other night with out my flashlight to get something out of my car and I ran into the carport pole knocking my eyeglasses off and had a hard time finding them. I got to thinking about check out the bump in the night and losing your glasses and for me I am blind without them so I decided to get my spare glasses and put them in the intruder bag... Just food for thought

Very good information, thanx for sharing! I keep a medium sized leather used ladies purse handy, was a garage sale item had for the grand total of .25 cents. That thing once held all kinds of gadgets in the pockets of snaps zippers, and open flaps etc as anyone can imagine, but I now have re-purposed it to easily keep those excellent emergency items in.

Thanks for making such informative videos!! I've used some of your ideas and thet're very sound. I use frangible ammunition so any unnecessary wall penetration is avoided. And the shotgun is a great idea! My Mossberg is always the first thing I reach for when there's a bump in the night!!

Great stuff as usual! Anymore, I'm watching fewer and fewer channels and yours is consistently one of my faves. I like to keep my pistol on my nightstand too but I learned a lesson the other day. I was going to sleep one night and thought "I should practice this" so I rolled over and went for my pistol...my finger went straight into the guard. I use a pocket holster now to keep that from happening. The other addition I made to my set up is a small fire extinguisher. You just never know. Ty again

What a fantastic Idea. I like that you picked up on noise, finesse and accessibility. I found some cheap old smart security wireless items, they include a remote that lets me turn on the lights. I added the wireless light bases to bright lights. So I can tap it on/off to run someones vision before I exit the room. Then I can control light zones without having to access the switch and expose myself.

Great vid! as always. Everyone forgets the dog. One of the best early warning devices ever. Remember during a home invasion. The home owner has the home truff advanage. what I do is get up in the middle of the night and find the dark and light spots and the would be your better defencive potion. Chemlights are a good thing to snap and then throw to the other side of a room. They can make a nice silhouette. Great bag o' happiness

One thing were no thought has been given has been how to deal with the confrontation after you have subdued the intruder, either by surrender, or if they have been shot. Your actions after a shooting, even of an intruder, can go a long way in determining what your legal situation may look like afterwards. And of course, you must always be prepared for the confrontation to go south. Mandatory items I would add to the bag: 1) Handcuffs 2) 6 24" tie-wraps 3) 1 or 2 Halo Chest Seals 4) Combat tourniquet 5) Celox Coagulant 6) small pressure bandage 7) 1 roll VetWrap (it works best for making pressure dressings and is cheap). These won't take an excessive amount of room. The life they save might be yours An attempt to render care after a shooting (and after cuffing) will indicate that there was not a callous disregard for life - period. It can save a world of legal issues, criminal & civil, regardless of the state you live in. I would also put a list of phone numbers of attys in the bag

Great video, Sootch. I would only add that redundancy, while important, has to be tempered w/consideration for weight. Alot of preppers put stuff like this together w/lots of cool gizmos and never consider that they might have to carry it for a considerable distance [if their car breaks down, for example]. Testing an emergency bag by taking it for a long walk (at least five miles) to see if the weight is sustainable and rides comfortably is vital.

Have you considered rigging the side arm to the outside of the bag? Having it in a holster attached to the outside of the bag via the molle webbing and also having a flashlight at the end of the sidearm lets you eliminate having to fight open a zipper in a possible frantic situation.

Theres a few reports floatin about how home invaders have started using cell phone signal jammers when breaking into a house, more than likely they also will take the time to disable youre landline. So my question is what is your communications plan if your landline is disabled and your cellphone is jammed??? I personally use a modular bandolier from spec ops brand, I placed a small ifak, a combat light, a few glowsticks, a few zipties, spare mags, and a multitool. Great vid man

One other thing I keep handy in my bedroom and car are Cyalume Ultra High Intensity Light Sticks. For home it allows me to deploy / toss a light source into an area of the house without it being tracked back to you(after it's tossed). In the car they work as hazard indicators. We also attach the 12hr ones to ourselves when we do (Tactical style/movement) shooting at night. I'd rather look like a alien than have an accident.

Sootch, since I make holsters, I made a holster for my glock 19 w/tlr-3 light. The holster is like an old cowboy holster that has the extended leather at the top where it would have loops to slide on the belt. Instead of loops, I left if flat and drilled it into the wooden bed frame down on the bottom. It stays there loaded and ready to go. You can't see it when the bed it made during the day. I keep my 4/7's light, spyderco and extra mag in the drawer to grap. Let me send you a pic-

Excellent video. I do agree about the lights. I've had a surefire E2D (bulb) and streamlight scorpion (batteries) die back to back. My wife and I each have a S&W M&P .45 with glock lights on our sides of the bed. As for the shotgun, just my preference, the ammo pouch isn't the best option. I keep a Remington 870 loaded by the bed also. A 6rd mag tube, plus a speedfeed stock that holds 4rds, and a side saddle that holds another 6rds.

As a fire fighter, I am conflicted about the "dont wear bright colors" If you find yourself in a house fire an pass out due to the fumes (or even dont wake up that happens too) it will be much harder for us to find you if you are wearing black or brown vs bright yellow or green for example. On top of that most criminals will wear dark color clothing, what happens if you and the criminal are wearing lets say a black shirt and you or someone else calls the police and says "the bad guy is in a black shirt" Or even "the bad guy is in a dark colored shirt". Just a few things to think about.

@irishScott2 I couldn't agree more, I think some of the best decision's a household can make is to have a "kitchen gun" and a "living room gun".

Plus since you have apparently never set up a load out of any kind you set it up where you have memorized where everything is. there is grab and go Whether it be your turkey vest or your home defense system. To give you an example. I had a jacket I used as my turkey vest in the right side bottom inside pocket was my owl call. Right side bottom outside pocket was both of my diaphragm calls. Left side was my Crow call on the inside and outside was my slate or glass call depending on the weather

Id recomend the belt, with a dumpbag for stuff like pen & paper. To fiddle with a bag if time is of the essens? Nope. Draw weapon from hip, maze or pepper on the other side of hip or behind pistol. Your belt is great. To bad i cant get em here in norway

If you have even a few seconds notice, you should have eye and ear protection available to grab and put on.

Currently, all I have is a Ruger .357 on my nightstand with an extra 24 rounds on speedloaders. I plan on mounting my M16 above my bed on a ridgeback rack as soon as they come out with a home-defence quick-release variant, and I also plan on puting my .357 out of service and replacing it with a Springfield Operator as soon as my Birthday rolls around ;)

You videos are good, better than most. One absolutely critical thing is missing, though: body armor. Dark t-shirt is fine, but not enough.

If you're using armor just put the mags, a phone, and all that stuff on the plate carrier. Since you have a plate carrier you might aswell have a rifle instead of a pistol since you're in Syria. Realistically you either don't have time to put on armor or will not bother to put it on every time you hear a bump in the night. 99 times out of a hundred this bag will be put on because there is a racoon in the trash, a dog in the yard, or your kids sneaking out.

A little fact that may open your eyes, my mother is a Police Officer (30+ years) and works in a jail. She has never owned a gun that was not dept. issued and has never wanted to own one. She lives across the street from a small elementary charter school in a good neighborhood. In broad daylight one day during school, her home was burglarized. The police took almost 15 mins. to get there after it happened. Guess what she now owns? It can happen to anyone, arm & protect yourselves!
