This bag would go great in one of those locking ammo cans. I mean, I know you said it was hidden but God forbid you get some kid in there with ample time to do some exploring. I mean, your whole set up is designed for the unlikeliest of situations, why not prep for the unlikely event someone does find it. At least make it impossible for a kid to get into. Put a combo lock on there so you are never without a key and bolt that box under a work bench or something. Another thing to consider with that bag is, if you're run out of your home by a couple guys, you might not want to initiate contact with them immediately. You might want to let them think they ran you off successfully. A couple energy bars in there will keep the energy up while you're waiting for the best time to strike.

I'll be honest, when I think of a "Self Defense Cache," I'm thinking more along the lines of the "bullets" part of the 3 Bs. Maybe some kind of trauma, as you had mentioned. I would think that switching out a "utility knife" with more of "fighting knife" would make more sense in a Defense bag. I mean, if I'm going for a bag like that, the last thing on my mind is food/water. I'm trying to get to my food/water (which I should have in my vehicle/house). Not sure if that helps anybody or not, but just my thoughts as I watched this video.

Great kit Sootch! Add a one quart or one gallon heavy duty freezer ziplock bag to that filter straw to make a complete kit. Just scoop up a bagful of water, drink and keep moving. Good video. One thing I have in a similar bag of mine is chem lights. For signaling friendlies. If something is happening you might pitch one out in your driveway to signal them to stop or be on alert. Say red for stop go get help or yellow for use caution. Whatever just something to think about you can tailor it to fit your needs. Also a two way radio whatever type your group/family uses. You can use both in combination say let friendly know your 300 meters north of red chem light. You get the idea. Keep up great work.

Something that I instantly thought about adding is just an general antiseptic. Just something small, that would clean virtually any type of wound. It really would be optional, but if you were separated from your house for an extended length of time (home takeover, flood, fire, etc) it would be good to at least have the option to clean a wound and keep infection at bay.

I like the idea of having something like this. I think that having that life straw is a good idea because if you find yourself pinned down in a combat situation it would be nice to be able to access drinking water. I might also include a few other things like some *water purification tablets*, a *coffee filter*, and maybe a *small vial of iodine* (also good for treating wounds). I like the idea of having a trauma bandage but it might also be a good idea to have a *tourniquet* along with that bandage. I think that it might be a good idea to strap a *small first aid kit* (might put a *survival blanket* in the first aid kit for treating shock and also as a survival/comfort item if you are pinned down for an extended period of time) and a *canteen* to the outside of that pack. I think that it would be good to have a *small gun maintenance kit* in that pack. Maybe a little *expandable baton*.

For keeping spare keys secure with limited access, I use the pushbutton model Supra C lock boxes from suprasystems. They can be found at Home Depot. Very rugged, I even keep spare keys in them for every vehicle, usually secured to the chassis or frame somewhere outside. Finally, a bag I wish my gf would carry for those awkward moments in public when she says, "hold this for a minute".😒 Upon awkwardly accepting it, I proceed to wrap the shoulder strap around it, and then pinch it between arm and torso, thus making it crystal clear, *"This is NOT my purse! I am I MAN, holding it for woman!".* Anyway, since you'd extend the defensive cache to address hydration issues, right away I'd include: -a few high calorie power bars. Their insignificant weight and volume will never betray their potential usefulness, so toss a few in there. -a small pill bottle or tiny zip-lock bag for a few Benadryl and aspirin. I'd ask myself, " What tiny stupid thing would I likely be kicking myself for not carrying?". This is the type of thing that qualifies. - USGI issued ESS wraps (or similar) would be less bulky than the goggles while still meeting the need. "High speed-low drag" all the way ;) -lose the folder, gain an Izula (or similar). It can ride on the molle webbing in a color matched sheath for instant access should you need to deploy it "yesterday", and even a RAT 3/Esee 3 if space affords. Rationale being, since the bag includes a gun, it presumes a dire situation where speed dictates everything and potential Murphy's Law problems should be considered and voided out prior. (a failed locking mechanism on a folder for example) -COMMS: If you anticipate needing a gun and a life straw, you absolutely need this as well. See the "ICOM V80 Sport", and call it a day. It's small and worth including, plus from this, ALL other support/missing items can be compensated for. It is your life line! ;)
@Hawkgx28Pyro11 жыл бұрын
I think your setup is very good and the bag is not overpacked, I agree with you the water straw would probably not go in to my bag. What do you think about hearing protection? If you need that bag in the day time and you can see the threat instead of at night wear you might listen for them is it worth the time to even think about ear protection? Obviously a few shots for self defense will not kill your ears.

I think a small pencil would be better than a pen because they don't dry out and don't freeze. A whistle would be a good add to the bag that you can signal someone with and maybe some pepper spray for a non lethal choice. I have a similar bag with a holster and mag pouch, that clip onto a belt, small first aid kit, horn made is a zippy bag,A marker ( will dry out and freeze) but you can write on walls with them, pencil, paper, knife, light, a small muktitool, some big zip ties, a whistle, a glock 19 and two mags. I plan on adding some pepperspray, ( I recommend that people train a little with pepper spray it is nasty stuff and can knock you out of the fight.

About the only things I'd add would be a length of para cord and maybe something like a lighter or other fire starting option, maybe a radio but not vital if you're on your own land and probably have access to other communications options.
