Sarah's views of and takes on things seem to make more sense than anything I've encountered before. There are quite a few therapists who've been eating disordered in the past but I have the impression that they practically ALL come from a restrictive background and not from overeating/bingeing, let alone having been overweight! So a therapist sharing experience and knowledge who was a binge eater herself is truly a gem.

THANK YOU. After watching countless dietitians talk about intuitive eating, it became clear that what I needed was someone who knew about behavioral psychology or eating disorders to explain it. I have found eating is more about behavior and habits and mental health rather than actual diet and physical health. i know it seems obvious and logical but with so much focus on food and fitness and looks, over the years I just forgot.

Thank you so much for your words on intuitive eating. I tried that concept a few times but always failed after some time. The first principle - to let go of wanting to lose weight - has never been clear to me. I always tried to use intuitive eating to lose weight. And you know what? My mother tongue is German, so I bought the German version of the book. It is sold here as a weight loss guide. Translated back to English it’s called “losing weight with intuitive eating” and the first principle reads like you should forget about all the other diets, restrictions and so on. But by watching your videos (and I’ve been watching a lot of them in the last days. Can sooo relate to all you are saying. I don’t know if I actually have a binging problem, but I do overeat regularly in a compulsive way in that often named restrict/“binge” cycle) I learned that it’s first about stopping the desire to lose weight. And for me, however difficult it is to accept, this has been an eye opener. So I guess I’ll give intuitive eating another shot with the help of your really precious videos. Thank you so much for your work!

i feel like i have been working for my freedom for years, have had a hard childhood with neglect. i faced hunger in my early teens and it has done something to my relationship with food, also certain foods are attached to people i loved and when i am sad i find myself eating them as a way to be closer emotionally 😢 i had a nervous bleeding ulcer in my early twenties and few years after that i moved to another country what gave me so many food sensitivities on top of all that had prolapse after childbirth and fasting is the only moment i feel truly well and at peace with my body. but i must say i no longer restrict my foods and that removed a lot of stress as well as let it go the fixation to lose weight, maybe this is me accepting me as i am… finally.

The way you explain things really speaks to me - thank you!! I had to stop and write notes as number 7 was a lightbulb moment. For me it’s 100% the struggle to cope with emotions and how to deal with them rather than running away that I have struggled with but not anymore! ❤️ I’m so grateful I came across your channel ☺️

I'm not a binge eater bit i have a very bad relationship with food and tend to overeat because i don't have a normal sense of being full after a meal...also working as a waitress for about 12 year's did teach me to ignore my hunger to a point where i could blend out all physical symptoms of it...when i got diagnosed with sever depression my relationship with food got even worse because it was one of the main focus points in the clinic (for a good reason though)... since being a mother I'm trying hard to change it because i see that my daughter is adapting my horrible eating habits and it scares me...i will rewatch this video take some notes and then I'll watch the other video on u're channel about intuitive eating but there is definitely a lot to digest for me... thank u for this already helpful video ❤

It never occurred to me until recently that I could trust my body’s cues. I always assumed my body would binge nonstop if I didn’t restrict it.

Does this mean you can only eat up the table? Iv been trying to intuitive eat and for a few weeks I do OK but gradually I just slip into binge eating again. I feel like an alcoholic tying to moderate their drinking, it just never works and eventually they slip into old habits. My brothers are addicts and I see a similarity with their experience and mine with food.

It doesn't mean you can only eat up at the table. I just did this for two months with particular 'binge' foods. It helped break the compulsive pairing of eating and screens. It helped me and I just offer it in case it might help someone else.

I tried a suggestion from another video. I made 2 eggs with spinach and mushrooms which end up being a lot. I also had half an avocado. I sat at my table without disruptions and ate my food. I even closed my eyes while chewing slowly and enjoying all the flavors. I only ate half the eggs and now I have breakfast for tomorrow. I just ate enough.

I am just hearing about this Intuitive Eating (from you). With these 10 guidelines - do tackle one or two first or try to incorporate all at the same time?

I would start by reading the original book cover to cover to get a full sense of the approach. They also do a workbook, which I know many people find helpful as it guides you through

Hello again! :) I've been watching a lot of your videos and this is yet another great one, thank you! I've stumbled upon the concept of intuitive eating quite a long time ago but it seemed like a wishful thinking. I was - and still am maybe to some degree - quite sure that if I'd let myself eat what I fancy, all my bad behavioral patters around food would just got even worse... But your remark about the fact that one could eat freely but provided it was a mindful changed my perspective on that quite a lot. A couple of years ago I was quite convinced by the Bright Line Eating programe, you surely must have heard about it. Can you share what do you think about it? I presume you're not a fan given it's a total opposite of the intuitive eating? My experience with it was that even though its ideas were very convincing, it worked just like another quite restrictive diet and I just could't help myself from getting yet again into the old overeating/binging patterns :/ I'm curious about your opinion. Cheers! :) Ula

Yeesh! Yeah I'm familiar with Bright Line Eating. I read the book and watched a lot of her videos. I think it's pretty extreme and I meet many people who feel they were harmed by the programme. That said, I can't assume it hasn't helped some people, but I'm not a fan. It's massively restrictive IMO

You're obvisually recovered, but it hurts me that you still have to scrach and do displacement activities when you say the word "diet". You're a very good presenter but this seems to get you.
