Good stuff! Always a pleasure watching the two of you! Wanted to mention, in case no one else has, that the house used for "Invaders From Mars" was originally built for the 1948 movie"Mr. Blanding Builds His Dream house" starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Melvin Douglas. An excellent movie if you're never seen it.

Seen it. Loved the movie. "Invaders from Mars" and "Mr Blanding Builds his Dream House". Didn't like the house. for a dream house it is inadequate. Only 3 bathrooms. Master bath, kids bath, maids bath, no guest bath. 4 bed rooms. master bedroom, 2 kids rooms, maids room. No guest room. No family room or game room so all the school projects, etc. would be in the living room or dinning room like in a small apartment and the office is in the hub of the house. no possibility of working in peace.

Along with some fellow Marines, I was an extra in this movie. The scenes on the Marine Corps base, in the movie I believe was named named "Camp Puller" after a famous Marine named General "Chesty" Puller, was actually located inside the former Marine Corps Air Station El-Toro, located in Irvine, Cal., where I was stationed from 1985 to 1988. In the scene, where Karen and David are driving around the base, you see a platoon of Marines marching, yet very briefly. Well, I'm actually one of those Marines marching. Took many takes to get the scene filmed. Seemed to be all night. A couple more friends were driven to the 'pit area' where the Marines were in prone position near James Karen, the General, ready to fight the martians. However, I have no Idea where that particular scene was shot.... The NASA office building in the scene where David's mom and dad deliver the detonator on the base can be seen in this drone footage taken 6 years ago at time 2:30. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3m0aayZp9R1baM Enjoy : ) ...Thanks for another great one Grimm!

Semper Fi, same here. The Pit scenes were filmed out at an old quarry near Simi Valley. They pulled Marines from multiple units in the LA area for that movie. I was one of over a hundred they got from the Marine Barracks at the Seal beach Naval Weapon Station.

I was on the set located in Simi Valley (Tapo Canyon). It was the main set used for the cover photo on the promotional material. Sand pits and the (National Guard/Marines??). I was about 16 at the time. Hunter Carson was hanging with us a bit... he was being annoying... started throwing sand at us... lmao! He was a brat! It was fun watching the filming of it! The set was pretty elaborate!

Times were so different when I saw this movie in 1953. My mother dropped three of us off in town, we got a bite to eat and then saw the movie. Afterwards, three of us ......at 14, I was the oldest.... a younger brother and younger yet, my sister. After the movie, the three of us walked a country road three miles to home and thought nothing of it, getting home well after 11:00....and we had no flashlight....and no moon that night. The rare few cars....we just stood off of the roadway until they passed.

I'm actually watching this very movie right now as I'm also watching your video. Pretty cool that you found the actual filming locations that are real places. Question about the house of David Gardner, is it still someone's house? And I noticed a large parking lot in front of the house and Many vehicles parked there, what is this place being used for now? Thanks for doing this video, I love sci -fi and one of My crushes is in this movie, Karen Black who plays the school nurse. I remember watching the 1953 version well and saw this one probably when it came out and saw it within this year earlier and watched it. I love certain films from the 1950's era i.e. WAR OF THE WORLDS THAT VERSION IS MY FAVORITE AND Forbidden Ok Planet too, can't beat those two. Glad I found your video. One movie I absolutely love is Star Ship Troupers so if you have any videos about these 3 I'd be interested in seeing them.

No, they were not walking up that hill every time they walked up that hill. I was in that movie as one of the Marine extras, and that hill set was on a soundstage in Hollywood. Yes many of the scenes were outside, but that hillside with the wood picket fence was actually built on a soundstage. And I had to run down it easily a dozen times.

Sadly the property looks like it was taken care of better than it is now. There is a scene where the two cops or looking for Linda and David in a boiler room. They stop briefly and shine their flashlights on one of the alien props used in the original movie. You could play the drinking game every time someone says David Gardner in this film. Another great vid Grimm.
