Ditto. I also like the idea (from Luke?) that it doesn't have eyes, just a fleshy face and sunglasses. The icecream jingle could be the standard jingle but slightly slowed down with a few discordant notes in (Edit: not creepily so, but as if the system was slightly broken or on low battery). What I don't yet like is that they didn't really come up with anything that the catcher does when it catches you. Ok, you're caught and have to escape. Is that it? Is the catcher's domain just there for you to escape from? ... I mean, ok. The catcher is an escape room monster, and you have to work with friends and/or total randoms to escape or be trapped forever, I guess.

The ice cream vein is good because ice cream van music is always creepy when played backwards. I was thinking of calling it just The Angler. Lean into the ice cream man being the angler fish. Because you can't kill the Eldritch Abomination but you can starve it. Remove the ice cream man, remove the food source, starve the greater evil. Leaves you open for sequels too because you end with them thinking they got all the ice cream man but then there's a man on the corner selling from a push cart and he's the new beginning.
@youliahadzhidimova52602 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's good! Also there can be something in the ice cream - like a bug or a human tooth or sth creepy, that you need to swallow to be marked. But if you find it you're ok. (Finding gross stuff in your food is a good horror trope and it can make you food paranoid in real life.) It can also be used as a reveal that there are more ice cream men. You're having a therapeutic ice cream at the end of the movie to prove to yourself that it's over. But then you (and the camera) look down and there's a worm or sth in the ice cream. Did you find it in time or did you already eat some of it?

Monsters are great because they delve into human mythology, the uncanny valley, and the unknown space between the stars. HR Giger created the look of the Alien, which is truly iconic and horrifying. You could create a human mimic, though this might be like the Thing or Parasyte... The themes are the same, even across different cultures. It's hard to create a unique monster, but with the current reality, you could create a modern one. For instance, a person whose face appears like a garbled messed up JPG, similar to those AI generated faces in DALL-E, and they infect you when you view a series of words or symbols on any video screen. Given today's reliance on technology it would be nearly impossible to avoid. When you're 'corrupted', you would become the next version...

Maybe the taking is part of a feeding cycle or the horror was bound at some point and it full taking people is the horror properly breaking through to the surface (the loops and the ice cream man could be echo as the entity’s strength in the ‘real’ world grew).

Ooh, the trailer for the movie could be done in a sort 50s ice cream or ice cream truck commercial for the extra creepy/effed up aspect. How one of the trailers for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus had that trailer with the massive panzer dog saving the men whose truck had turned over but then she got a bit destructive and had to be scolded by the girl. I know you said Chucky, but just dolls in general are creepy af. Furby's too. Or a Tickle Me Elmo. The whole bit with the mind and memories around 8 minutes in is just Alzheimer's, tbh. My grandmother had it and she had a complete personality change. Wasn't the same person at all. She'd never been mean in her life, but she sure got mean when that happened. Mean, paranoid, and just definitely not the same person.

This is the kinda writers room I imagined for Supernatural. Just throwing out random ideas.

I stopped watching in the later seasons, but I would be completely unsurprised if an episode involved psychosexual gnomes.

The Catcher can only be defeated by the one who has no need of ice cream. Plant Nutrition Boy

Andy and Luke have obviously never seen the classic of horror cinema "Ice Cream Man."

"Creepy 50s ice cream man" reminds me of the monsters in the show From (which is great if anyone's looking for a weird mystery-horror thing.)

i like how at two points they almost come up with the ideas for The Creature From The Black Lagoon and The Blob without realizing either before they eventually settle on The Catcher. 😄👍

A great after credits scene would be showing the Ice cream man in NYC in the 90's handing out ice cream again (regardless of how the movie ended, but better if we thought the kids had won)... and then show that there are multiple ice cream men active all over the world at the same time.

The Ice Cream Truck as an anglerfish lure reminds me very much of that creepy old Ice Cream Lady in the Spongebob Movie. Turns out she's an anglerfish.

They begin circling 'Ghoulies' (1985) with the toilet monster thing, then they sort of invented the movie 'Death Bed: The Bed That Eats' (1977) before moving on to 'Ice Cream Man' (1995) starring Clint Howard. Just with a cosmic horror twist. Glad they didn't check to see if their monsters exist.

Maybe the Catcher is a sleep coach? His siren song, a progressive muscle relaxation session.

Owls, you could make such a bone chilling horror franchise around owls no joke. There's just a giant owl-man who looks like a massive human sized owl, them you realize he is featherless and everything you though were feathers are actual owls hanging off his body. You hear hooting in the night that wakes you right from the edge of sleep, it gets louder and louder the longer you go without sleep, until one day you're just gone and there are feathers in your room. Weeks later there are brick sized owl pellet's in the woods full of teeth that match your dental records. You never hear him coming because of those unnatural silencing feathers, but when he's flying nearby the whole world seems to get muffled and muted by the beating of his wings. owls follow you everywhere, always watching. If you look into his eyes his head will do that crazy 360 thing, except it just keeps going and going, and your head starts spinning the same way until you drop, your body hooting quietly from the ground... sorry, turns out I kinda have a problem with owls.

A masked reanimated corpse stitched together from parts of a vampire, werewolf, and swamp thing. The ultimate monster.
