I believe I had the same bilge pump on my 1981 O'Day 28. I had a Whale Gusher 8 Mk III. I replaced the valve flaps and diaphragm with the Whale 8 Service Kit SK8813 and I purchased (but have not yet installed) the replacement Deckplate Gaiter Kit AS3725. They were fairly easy to find online. I got one from Defender and the other from Amazon. I tested the repaired pump and it moves water very well. It would not surprise me if it can move several gallons per minute. I'm glad to have mine working again as it is the only bilge pump I have until my electric is repaired.

Another great episode. Keep the receipt for the red diesel, you may have trouble in the EU if they do a tank dip (and that red dye stays in the system for quite a while). I'm not sure what the latest is now, but there have been problems over it (because of tax).

@tomriley57903 жыл бұрын
Has this been a problem for boats? I know it was a problem for cars because they're obviously evading tax, but thought it was okay for boats.
@aseeker21093 жыл бұрын
@@tomriley5790 It is OK for non-commercial boats but only for use in a diesel heater. Red diesel is not for running engines on non-commercial boats.
@tomriley57903 жыл бұрын
@@aseeker2109 yep looks like they've changed it recently - you can apparently claim the tax back (if you paid it) on fuel used for heating etc. or pay the tax on (depending on what fuel you got) fuel you used for propulsion. All in all given that he's only had one fill of red diesel he's probably okay to say overall he's used 60% tax paid (which seems to be the figure they're using if you only have tank)

As far as cutting the end of the bilge pump you may want to do that. It could form a little vortex there if there’s an air pocket or back flowing water. Also it would create pressure that may help push on the valve unnecessarily.

Red diesel == agricultural diesel. They dye it because it has less tax, but using it on the road can get someone fined. Not sure about boats but I assume that if marine diesel isn't dyed that it's the same deal. Ireland does it too but uses green dye and there are actually fuel laundering operations between North & South of Ireland where they try to strip the dyes out to sell it in forecourts.
@CGamesPlay3 жыл бұрын
Finally, an illegal laundering scheme that actually involves cleaning something!
@drxym3 жыл бұрын
