I have a 06 XB as well, and I have a huge Wolfram 15 I want to put in there. I want to invert the woofer because 1, I think it looks cool... 2, like you said, airspace. I think it’s going to be a super tight fit, and I think to get the 3.5-4 cubic ft of air space it needs, I might have to invert it.

Isobaric setups are actually the BEST for spaces like your vehicle. so basically you wire your subwoffer inverted without bridging it and it will pull when it's supposed to push. doing this is okay in terms of sound quality and might even improve the efficiency of your cars sterio When you have the rest of the cars speakers wired traditionally and the inverted subwoffer in trunk at matching impedance, the speakers in the doors and dashboard then actively absorb the negative pressure change from the subwoffer as they work, this actually allows the main speakers to operate more efficiently and might even produce some interesting crate filtering effects depending on modularity of the cars stereo system (position of speakers and frequency response) this concept of isobaric wavelengths are actually very desirable when you want the wavelengths (sound) to travel not (FROM) your vehicle, but (THROUGH) it. Thus means that interestingly enough if your setup is designed like my car is, you literally hear nothing but snare once you step aside from the vehicle. Thus confusing the shit out of every person who sits in your car and decieving all the neighbors into thinking my bass is turned off until thed stick their face in the window and the headroom of the waveform finally travels in one ear and out of the other. This setup makes the lower frequencies of any song literally SUBTRACT pressure from your head when in fact the waveform is supposed to be ADDING it to your ears. This makes the actual sounding wavelengths only acoustically noticeable when inside the vehicle... You'll notice no one else's windows or house will shake and you can listen literally as loud as you want granted you MATCH the subwoffers power output to the other speakers so that you don't actually blow out the cars speakers when you turn the master volume up...

Inverting a single subwoofer alone only matters to the guy who's looking at the thing while he's listening to it. The actual benefit of inverting a subwoofer driver is apparent when you have a second driver that is NOT inverted and the polarity is oposite (popularized by M&K "push/pull" subwoofers).

@dead_xxx_king27172 жыл бұрын
It creates more headroom so your ears will actually be tricked into believing its taking pressure from your head when in fact it's merely when positive waveform leaves your ear that you notice the difference in headroom. This makes it sound like the audio is occupying more airspace than normal only because the other speakers are drawing the air pressure from the wavelengths away from sub, making the lower frequencies modulate back and fourth differently from the higher ones because actually it's more desirable to invert the main speakers and simply decrease the level of the Amp to your sub, making your entire airspace simulate the positive and negative pressure changes of a subwoffer acting normally.. The difference is once you leave your space your ears only notice the higher frequency that bleeds out from the lower ones pushing against the speakers... headroom Is only comprehensible when you in same room as sub like he said

@@EARDRUMASSASSIN - The driver occupying a high enough percentage of the enclosure volume to make a noticeable difference would mean that your enclosure was way too small to begin with. How is it that the whole car stereo community seems to be oblivious to Thiel/Small paramaters?

If you invert both, you can wire normally. If one is inverted you need to wire it out of polarity of the other one.

Found this after melting my subs and not being able to tell until it was too late. Mild system, 2 entry level 10s in a sealed box on 460 RMS. Designed with poor cooling, all they had was the hole in the pole. These little things were smoking their brains out, and I couldn't smell it inside the sealed box. I ripped one out and smoke billowed out of the box. And boy were they hot. I could barely touch it. The magnet itself was the hottest piece but the basket wasn't too far behind. I later realized that the glue that held the spider to the basket had let go and there was nothing locating the voice coil. The adhesive holding the speaker together became so hot that it began to liquify, and I couldn't tell, and let them Blast away until it all came apart. I pulled the second one and it didn't smell anything like the first one, you know that smell of burnt speakers. This was strictly a chemical smell, it was just adhesive I was smelling no voice coil. Sure enough, two-thirds of the spider come off the basket. Replace them with the exact same pair of speakers mounted inverted strictly for the purpose of keeping them cool. Playing under identical conditions that blew the original set, these get slightly warm to the touch. And playing under those identical conditions, it is remaining glued together. I can't tell you or calculate in anyway how much more efficient it is at cooling, but I can tell you it is effective

If I invert my subs do I have to switch polarity?
@EARDRUMASSASSIN4 жыл бұрын
No . only if you’re running more than one sub and one is inverted and the other isn’t . Some ppl say they can hear a difference if they switch polarity. I couldn’t .
@ROCKNROLLMODS3 жыл бұрын
If they both are inverted or both conventional they can be hooked up standard or reverse polarity. If one is inverted only one is reversed. Doesn't matter which. They don't have to be "in or out of phase with the components/coax, (mids/highs) because they are not playing the same frequencies. The only place that phase cancelation is really an issue is down low. This is because it's very easy to align long sound waves (or un-align for lack of a better term) Higher frequency waves are extremely tiny making it much harder to cause phase issues. Waves cancel when 2 identical waves are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. Provided the subwoofers are on the same plane, they should be moving together. (Impossible by sight to see)

How did you seal the sub? Because my L7S's have rough top surfaces so there will def be small gaps between baffle and sub. I'm gonna try weatherstripping caulk tape, $3 @ Walmart which E.X.O. suggests in one of his videos.

I want some advice on buying subs, I'm a jbl fan and I want to know if DVC or SVC will be better firstly and if you have any knowledge on them maybe help me deside on the best sounding one between Gt5-12D dual coil 275 watt rms; and jbl stage 1210 250watt rms single coil.
@EARDRUMASSASSIN4 жыл бұрын
Welp honestly the impedance of a subwoofer mostly plays into how low you want to wire down your amp . For example dual 2 can be wired down to 1 ohm while dual 4 can be wired down to 2 ohm . Single 2 ohm will be 2 ohm only . Single 4 ohm will be 4 ohm only unless multiple subs are wired up . I honestly don’t know much about jbl subwoofers to offer advice on which is better other than the dual coil allows more wiring options. Hope that helps some .
