My nieces, nephews and my daughter enjoyed opening Obsidian Flames. It was easy to find at retail. It sold at a reasonable cost per pack. It had a decent pull rate. Young kids want the thrill of pulling a Charizard, and Obsidian Flames gave them this feeling. My daughter pulled the SiR Charizard, and it was amazing. She was so excited. My point being is this set will be remembered by the younger generation as a very fun set to open. I wouldn't be surprised if this set and a handful of cards will be desirable years from now.

You can buy all the chase cards in the set for the same cost of the box. Imo not the best set especially next to paldea evolved.

Hey there, I’m a new subscriber and fan. I just started collecting a few months ago again since I was as a kid and started with this set. I started this set because of the artwork. They became harder to find in person. I just opened all my packs and organized them yesterday and found I still needed over a hundred to finish it completely that I spent hours yesterday online looking for my missing cards that I didn’t go to sleep close to 5 this morning.

I recently picked up an Obflame Booster Box because it was £100 ($122 USD), around £2.80 ($3.44 USD) per pack whilst other sets that I won't name *wink wink* are entirely unnatainable. I was chasing the Ninetales but ended up pulling the charizard SIR AND the PidgeotEX SIR from one box. Such a great set that will definitely climb in value. I'm noticing a trend that earlier S&V sets are climbing and as I only recently got into the hobby, I'm more than happy to skip the hype new sets and open these older ones that have some great, underrated cards.

No. Dont. Just buy one or two and thats it. He isnt looking at market value. First red flag. The game is about to tank for a lil bit. Especially Japanese cards.

Interestingly enough, Ruler of the Black Flame on the japanese side, I would argue, is one of the better japanese sets from the S&V era and holds pretty good value.

Obsidian got a bad wrap because of the pull rates compared to the low amount of pulls in the set. I have put a little bit of money into the ETBs though, because the promo in that box is definitely going to appreciate. I also picked up a Charizard EX SIR for about $55.

As a sidenote: They don't have time to reprint all these sets. If anything is going to be printed in the foreseeable future, it's going to be 151, Surging Sparks, and Prismatic Evolutions. If they get those under control, TPC needs to prioritize Twilight Masquerade and Paldea Evolved at the moment. Wouldn't surprise me if the Charizard/Pidgeot deck is the "official" reprint of Obsidian Flames, considering that box contains almost all playable cards in the set.

Def underrated, but it got dunk on because the pull rates was too easy, imagine just opening 3 booster box and you already completed the set lol. The issue it was small and the pull rates were just too easy, glad they finally correct it later on with other sets but if it came out now it with harder pull rate it probably be worth way more.

I have the worst pull rate when ripping OBF. Makes me so discouraged. So much fluff in this set! I have 5 pidgey SIRs... :( I hope it does go up in price I have a $110 booster box entry personally.

@@piki0126 Obsidian flames is going to be hit or miss for the future I think. But at the very least it will settle as an average set in the long run. I think it has potential for a lot of reasons. Also have to consider if the real investors have 100k boxes of a popular set, but not so much with these less popular sets, in every era there is these couple sets that are anomalies and gets a lot of value eventually. The sentiment might also change, suddenly the interest can spike for a certain set. Obsidian for me is one of the speculative ones, but one that might pay a lot in the future or it might not.
