The street cats at the end of the video always make me smile lol. The 2 months I was in Chiang Mai I had to work the same shift as my USA coworkers - so 9pm-5am local time. Naturally everyone else was asleep, so I'd go out into the lobby of my building and hang out with the two strays that would come into the building every night. The one always insisted on coming into my apartment just to lay down and hang out. Good memories!

When the value of an underlying stock depreciates, the dividend yield, expressed as a percentage, increases if the company maintains or raises its dividend payout. This is because dividend yield is calculated by dividing the annual dividend by the stock’s current price. For example, if a stock is priced at $100 and pays a $5 dividend, the yield is 5%. If the stock price drops to $80 but the dividend remains at $5, the yield becomes 6.25%. However, the actual dividend payment (the cash you receive) remains the same unless the company changes the dividend.

Try Terminal 21 foodcourt for good food. 100 baht can get two or three different dishes for a meal. Many choices to pick. I go there a lot in Bangkok. Suda restaurant is across the street from Terminal 21, Or try MBK Center. It's rainy season now so rain everyday off and on. I also walk in Benchakitti Park. I also like Lumphini and Bencahsiri.

The DOW and S&P 500 is at an all time High as of 09/19-20/2024. The same goes for S&P/TSX in Canada. Yes, dividends are decreasing based on the elevated price of shares. It's also a great time to right-size and take some capital gains appreciation. As always, great content and very informative about Thailand.

Your dividend explanation is wrong. If you paid $100 per share with a $2.50 dividend your yield is 2.5%. If the stock collapses to $50 YOUR yield which is calculated on your cost basis of $100 is still 2.50% To earn 5% as you state an investor would have to buy more shares at the collapsed price of 50$

When dividends are not reinvested, the compounding effect is lost, resulting in reduced long-term growth potential. Dividends are subject to taxation upon receipt, resulting in a tax burden that diminishes the available capital for future investments. That is unless you can manage to stay under the long-term capital gains threshold for taxes. This mandatory distribution also restricts control over cash flow, as dividend income must be distributed, potentially incurring tax liabilities, even if deferring income for tax planning or reinvesting it for growth would be more advantageous.

Market not down at this time? Appears close to all time highs. Anyway....... The dividends come in monthly or quarterly without fail. Even in the big market dump in 2020, I received 85% of my dividends. In the past few years, the dividends have returned to what they were, or even much higher! Be consistent in your investments whether high or low. In fact, when the market is down it is the best time to invest as you are buying on sale and it will really help your future dividends.

I have no clue why KZbin is deleting some of my comments. This is a short version of the one I posted to your comment about visiting Denmark: There is no way you can stay within your travel budget if you visit Denmark. In 2023, the highest price level for consumer goods and services among the EU countries was observed in Denmark (43 % above the EU average). The average salary in Copenhagen is 624,000 Kr = USD 93.099. It is worth to travel around Europe by train- relatively inexpensive and so many beautiful places to visit Switzerland and Norway are just out of this world. You can buy a Rail Pass that gives you unlimited train travel to more than 30 countries in Europe.

given you came from Penang, but were in Bangkok previously, after your visitor visa expires, how long until you can enter the country again on another visitor visa?
@karlyap3011

I don’t believe there is a time away requirement. Just a few months ago I did a visa run from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur and back the next day. Given that I am at retirement age, perhaps Thai immigration is more relaxed. Also arriving at an airport helps because it’s a more “elite”form of transportation. From my experience, land border crossing may be more scrutinized and troublesome. However others recommend staying away for a week or so.

@@RetireandGo When we first moved from the US earlier in 2024, we were experimenting on "slow travel" i.e. stay until the tourist visa expires and move on to the next nearby country. We were in Taipei, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Penang), and now Thailand (Chiangrai and Bangkok). However we find it a bit too much on a government visa schedule rather than ours. It is a bit exhausting to be always planning for the next stay and on the alert for the visa expiration date or needing to extend. We feel that having a home base or "base camp" and travel from it is more relaxing and be driven by our desire and schedule. Hence I applied for the Thai long term resident (LTR) visa for retirees a few months ago and received it in less than two months. I applied for it by myself while in Bangkok, but it can be done outside of Thailand too. The fee is 50,000 baht (about USD $1.500) payable on the day of issuance of LTR visa. So no money out of pocket until this visa is being issued, and no need of visa agent or lawyer. This LTR visa is offered by the Thailand Board of Investment (partial URL //ltr.boi.go.th/) and they are my proponent with the other Thai agencies, such as Thai Immigration. This visa has the less reporting requirements to Thai immigration. It is multi-entry and valid for 5 years and renewable for another 5. It is exempt from the new Thai tax law. It is more affordable than the Malaysian MM2H retirement visa. This year we plan to visit Japan and other parts of Thailand, and next year to the Americas on our schedule from the "base camp" in Thailand. However you being a KZbinr, your parameters are perhaps different. Nevertheless the Thai LTR visa may be a good contingent option to have. It's quite affordable now, but most likely less so in the future, like the Malaysian MM2H.
