For me it is if the curse doesn't affect the player it affects the player's team and vice versa. For example Brady won MVP and lost the super bowl. (Madden 18) and Gronk got hurt and missed the Super Bowl and the Patriots won it (Madden 17). So it's either player or team that get affected.
