I love how there's a collapsed tunnel in the caverns where you can periodically hear the screeches of the Deep Ones. I also love how this whole quest references H.P Lovecraft.

They may have changed the setting from a coastal fishing town to an inland mining town, but the similarities are still obvious. 1: The quest is called "A Shadow Over Hackdirt", which is like the title of the story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". 2: The townspeople are malformed, with narrow heads and big eyes, just like the people that live in Innsmouth. 3: The people of Hackdirt worship creatures called the Deep Ones, which are the creatures in the Lovecraft story. 4: At one point during the quest, you get attacked while sleeping at the local inn. The same thing happens to the protagonist of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".

@@xavmanisdabestest Argonian age slider changes the coloration of the scales(green=younger, red=older), Dar-Ma's coloration is higher up the scale than her mothers, just play an argonian and play with the age slider an you'll see

I always kinda wonder if the role was meant to be the other way around. Dar-Ma was meant to be the adult and Seed-Neeus asks you to rescue her mom.

This quest was definitely pretty suspenseful and horror-genre material, I didn’t know it was inspired by Lovecraft till I read the comments- when I played I kept thinking it was related to the Blair Witch Project mostly because it takes place in nowhere Maryland forests (the Bethesda company is in Maryland) and the movie starts out with interviewing weird townsfolk. Also what made this quest even crazier was when Dar-Ma has a bug where when you’re escaping the town her horse walks slow as hell, apparently it wasn’t supposed to but that def added to the pressure! “HURRY TF UP do you wanna be sacrificed or not?!”

When I tried to do the quest, Seed-Neus didn't have the option to give it to me. So I did the rational thing of going to hackdirt which I accidentally discovered on my mages guild quests and killed all the inhabitants and then released dar-ma.

First day of playing Oblivion, I found Hackdirt while on the way to Weatherleah to fight the ogres. Creeped me out...aaaand then I had to go back to find Dar-Ma (not even half way to level 2). I'm currently about to go down in the cavern (though I didn't even *know* about her diary, at the time of talking to that one dude in his house after dark. Hope it wasn't too important...).

you forgot the mage guild questline you well get a good staff robes and other weapons and armor and its the longest questline also able to craft spells better than the ones you have and enchant items
