Thanks for sharing, Sven! I completely agree with Buffett that not everyone is born a value investor. Personally, I have been practicing value investing for almost 10 years and have introduced this approach to many others. However, I remain one of the few who continue to follow it. I also appreciate your assessment-while I am a value investor, there is certainly room for improvement.

I would say i give myself 7. After following this channel since 2020 and learning and applying a lot, I'm still making mistakes. The emotional part is difficult because for a period I may be doing well, then gradually I might stray away from value investing mindset. Another difficult thing is to not look at stocks and stock price 😂 2022-2024 I would barely check my portfolio, maybe once a month, and now I'm checking multiple times a day. Funny enough I was more disciplined in that period and got a good return. Which brings me to the next challenge, focusing on performance vs pe ratio. I recently calculated I did good returns in the last three years so that number keeps popping up in my head 😂 And I tend to look at my unrealized gains % a lot - in order to decide whether to increase or sell a position. Unfortunately that also leads to anchoring and straying me away from staying focused on the business fundamentals rather than the stock. Thanks for the video Sven! A nice self reflection exercise which every value investor should do time to time.

I have to admit that I fall on the first point. For example; It's not that I jump for joy like Cheerleaders, but as an optimistic person I feel satisfaction when my BABA shares start to grow and the current size of the position in the portfolio is such that it does not allow for further expansion of the position. And it would be even greater satisfaction to finally see significant growth in revenue and earnings per share in the BABA business. Yes, I'm mostly value investor at heart... but it's maybe due to unwillingness for losing too much & trying to play it safe/conservative. I buy cheap acc etfs, not invested in single companies so far due "tax reasons". Although having a total of 20% in China & EM Asia isn't really that conservative... But what can I say, got them cheap... My aim is not really to make excess returns over indexes, but steady good enough returns over time.

Anyway, most Chinese stocks are down 60% in the last five years, and the market is still below 2007 levels by more than 30% (fact check if you want) ... but sure buddy, this time is different 😂

It is hard to get rich by investing 1-2% of your wealth in something, however well it performs. The 1-2% allocation itself is already an admission that they are gambling. And if they are okay with bitcoin (which produces nothing and hence has no intrinsic value), then they should also be okay investing in other overvalued/unprofitable assets, which inevitably leads to losses, which doesn't help one become rich ether.

Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios with the markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?
@DeclanJoseph-c4j10 күн бұрын
Just ''buy and hold'' man. In the long term it will payoff. High interest rates usually mean lower stock prices, however investors should be cautious of the bull run, its best you connect with a well-qualified adviser to meet your growth goals and avoid blunder

Very true, you can be passively involved in the markets and still amass wealth-gains using an investment advisor. I first dabbled in stocks late 2019, just before the pandemic, and that same year gained over 150% with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was following directions of my advisor. We are working on a retirement ballpark of $3m and I’m certain my goal isn’t farfetched after subsequent investments and tremendous returns so far.

It always botheres me when someone says "you shouldn't be happy when a stock goes up". Listen pal, I bought the stock because I expect a 4x in 10 years. If the market Gods gave me a gift and made it go up 50% in 3 months, (I'm going to reevaluate the company and) I'm going to sell the stock and buy another one, hopefully one that I bought before.
@Never-ending_10 күн бұрын
Also, if the stock does nothing for 4 years, you bought at the wrong time in the cycle, or you did not think about the posible catalyst that will push the stock to it's fair value. Your fault, be better next time!
@PonderDuke10 күн бұрын
True it just depends on the situation you are in. In the beginning of the investment journey you want a good company to be cheap. When you are older you want to take out your monthly amount to live of off. So then you want to stock price to be much higher then you have bought it for of course. So that question totally depends on the situation. When you want to buy more you are happy when the price drops when you want to sell it you are happy that the price went up.
@mathewwilson977610 күн бұрын
The stock going up forces you to think more about alternatives, you have to trade more, pay more fees, pay more taxes... not much to be happy about. If you like the business and you plan on deploying capital for the next few decades, the ideal scenario (however comical it may sound) would be for it to trade near 0 until the day you have made your last contributon and then skyrocket. The stock going up tomorrow is the exact opposite of that: no time to accumulate a meaningful stake, no time to learn about the business, urge to find something else, taxes... If the stock does nothing for 4 years, but the business is good quality, keeps growing and you are getting a 10-20% yield from it, it doesn't get any better than that: I much prefer a 4x far into the future on 20% of my portfolio (since I had plenty of time to think, learn and accumulate) than a quick 50% on a marginal position,
@PonderDuke10 күн бұрын
@ It's a good thing if the stock does nothing but the underlying value is going up. That means you get more returns when the market starts to realise it. In the mean time you can buy more for cheap.

Hello Sven, I really like your channel and your videos and your approach. It is what I would like but I am new to this and still looking for where to start. youtube and chatgpt are a couple of places. That's how I found your channel. And at the same time its hard to not be tempted by stories like Nvidia and Bitcoin. I'm skeptical, I think there is a bubble. Will it pop today, tomorrow, in a year... which makes it very tempting to jump on the band wagon... which of course is what makes the bubble. Yes, I'm the greater fool! It's also not easy seeing a stock that has good fundamentals decline. Very quickly I'm wondering how far will it go down... how much will I lose...? And finally, is there no value to following charts and trends? Perhaps your message and those of value investors is that value investing trumps all other styles of investment?
